Now that's a bike (not to mention the rider). Hope the hour is restored as something that every true champion wants in their palmares.

I never realised they could do it on what is essentially a pursuit bike.

Wiggo could potentially take the record out of sight.

A link out of the chain would help.

I'm not following why anyone cares if the bike is hideous or not. :? It's the record that matters. Right? :? If the bike is within whatever rules are set up, by whomever, then hideous or not it got the job done.
Because the Lotus one did it better and it looked the Bo**ocks, that's why. When I was a kid I had a picture of the Lotus on my wall. If I'd had the Corima I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night

A true excellent piece of design performs a function whilst looking beautiful, lets not get in to this again, it's about the hour record...

I'm looking forward to seeing what Jensies' bike looks like, if it doesn't say SHUT UP LEGS on the down tube in massive letters I will be disappointed (I would forgive SHUT UP HOUR)

When I was entertaining vague notions of going I was thinking of making a banner that said SHUT UP TIME - the obvious double meaning of not wanting him to retire and the hour thing.
I'm left handed, if that matters.

I think the wheels are pretty cool, makes it look like a giant stopwatch. It still needs SHUT UP HOUR written on the downtube though.

Treks always look bland to be fair (apart from Fabu's one) but they do work very well :-)

it’s the rest of the bike that looks like a wind-tunnel experiment.

Maybe that's because it IS? What else are TT bikes other than wind tunnel experiments? :?

Please stop making posts I agree with Dennis. It confuses me.

  • No, superman position, bars too far forward of the bottom bracket. The saddle may be too far forward too.

I presume you're referring to his 1996 hour record? If so that was set in the 'superman' position which I believe is still disallowed, being outside the current limits for track bikes.

Edit: his 1993 record may still be ok though. All Wikipedia says is 'triathlon handlebar' now I know triathlon TT bikes have different geometry rules to road TT ones but I'm not sure how they relate to rules on the track. Also if the 1993 record was ok Romingers's 1994 may count.

Very long legs, very long arms and a short body. I know where I went wrong...

I guess his anatomy is such that it is conducive to being relatively aerodynamic.

I dunno - those arms look so long that there would surely be a lot of drag ?

If a carbon bike with tribars and disc wheels doesnt shatter the hour record - I'll eat my hat.

Assuming you mean his Corima? If it is still valid, then why not Rominger's?

Sorry, won't happen again. I'll make sure to disagree or say something really stupid about literally everything.

  • Well, I guess it is supposed to be fast rather than pretty...

    Pretty damn awful though....

There isn't one answer to what is the best aero bike, it is all about choices and compromises. Some people will like some better than others and aesthetic value of the bike (I know you hate the concept) is not totally dictacted by the wind tunnel numbers.

OK let's get down to the important business - does anyone know who Eurosport are going to have commentating on this? I'm rather hoping it'll be Carlton just to see how he plays it.
Yep, Kirby is doing it. Eurosport lending the event an element of interactivity by giving the viewer an idea of what it's like to endure an hour of pain.

Even with good commentary the hour is f@cking boring.
  • My question is how do they get those pictures of the bike without any help keeping it upright?

Does someone just push it into the line of the camera?

It's propped up against a support hidden behind the wheel. You can see it here.

  • Just set the Sky+ to record Jens' Hour Attempt and it asked me if I wanted record the series.

What do Sky know that we don't ;) ?

Perhaps he's planning to do what I saw a swimmer do once and keep going to break the 12 and 24 hour records after smashing the hour.
I'm left handed, if that matters.
