Loving the quote by Jens on his top tube "I am Mother F**king Jens Voigt" ought to be enough to inspire himself.0

Bobby Julich's dutch is surprisingly good."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I'm actually nervous for this"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

I found myself strangely emotional at the start"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

It actually looks more boring than being on a turbo trainer for an hour.0

Somebody explain the timing of the whistle every lap?"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Perhaps to do with how his pacing is in terms of the schedule rather than the usual stepping forward or backwards?0 -

It's not as easy as that unfortunately - the amount of hassle the UCI created when we tried to organise Bottrill's attempt was laughable. They want the Hour to be the Fabian/Tony/Brad show, gone are the days of the plucky amateurs like Obree and Boardman. MB would have been looking at high 52s and much further than Voigt.0 -
I'm watching on the UCI channel and really enjoying it. Great effort by a non trackie. Very impressed by his smoothness0

This is awful. Where is the technical descent? Or the steep hill to shake things up a bit?
Can't believe they are making the same mistake as the Vuelta making a circuit stage...0 -

What other problems were there, other than the bio passport troubles? Would have loved to see Bottrill have a go.0 -
Any predictions on how long it will take him to finish?0

Generous assessment of his career from Belgian Eurosport... They wouldn't even clarify what bike we were allowed to use (ie. whether it was aerobars or athletes hour) as the updated rules still weren't clear. It was obvious they were just stalling and stalling and it culminated in one of the sponsors being told at the UCI headquarters that they just wouldn't let him ride. Jens Voigt's bike had all sorts of bits filled in (brake holes etc. as it was a road version of a Trek Speed Concept), Matt's Giant was a road version too but we were told no mods/hole coverings were allowed at all.
51.115km is not bad though - I think if Cancellara has a go it'll be interesting to see whether he does it at proper altitude (Aguascalientes) or sticks with this track.0 -
Xav, did Matt go on the Bio Passport? It's my understanding that riders have to be on it for 9 months so he may still get a chance especially now the rules have been clarified with this new ride...0
-
Pleased he got it.
Just a shame Boardman never got a crack at it with the current regs.0 -
What did he get?? Sorry I'm on my phone, Google is being useless!0

I notice he tweeted the other day it was some crazy amount 7000/9000 pounds to get on it, so not as straightforward as saying go for it... I think he also of the opinion by the time 9 months are up wiggins canc etc will probably have done it0 -

Knackered.
And as I get my coat - 51.115km0 -
Hope he holds it for a while.
Pi$$ing the usual suspects off no end.“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
That was grand.... not even breaking a sweat.0

Yep exactly, the days of the amateur hour record are gone. Just a show now (for better or for worse)0 -
Slightly facetious but wouldn't twitter go wild if a 'plucky amateur' such as MB hired out the London Velodrome (got the air conditions right) battered JV record and stuck it on strava?
Throw in a charity donations element and you have big exposure for both matt and his sponsorsand a lot of egg on the face of the UCI. Admittedly it won't go in the record books but it wouldn't be too costly to Matt's training schedule I wouldn't have thought?
He needs to get it in before Wiggins/Canc/ martin batters that and does a mid 53.0 -

I think Voigt is pretty much a stalking horse to draw out the big guns, or maybe just having a go before they do. I'd love for Cancellara, Wiggins and Martin to all go for it over a fairly short time period, ideally it would end like the kilo at the Sidney Olympics with the top four breaking the (Olympic) record one after another.
NOPE, not the only ones I'm afraid: if the sport was more affordable to mere mortals (like athletics) , any record could have been REALLY exciting as opposed to BATTLE OF (FINANCIAL) TITANS exciting, so to speak.
I testify, in this case, that I have achieved more than all mentioned in this post, and having in mind that the TRUE 1 HOUR RECORD will settle just below 55 km/h by Die Panzer or Wiggo, given the finances i would look at 55 + km/h , with great confidence.0 -
A bit of a farce really, as Sosenka rode it on a traditional bike. Taking current rules in mind, he should have challenged Rominger's attempt. Good for him though.0
