I'm out, again. Full Christmas hysteria has kicked in with the EPO and we're going to see her family this weekend, as well as various Christmas parties. The following Saturday is my daughter's birthday and I have to take her and some friends ice skating, deep joy.
How about one day between Christmas and new year? Are you around?0 -
I'd be up for one of these in theory; in practice there seem to be races every weekend at the moment. Might well be up for one between Xmas and New Year, and definitely when the fixture list starts to thin out in mid Jan...Pannier, 120rpm.0

Well, in winter planning 3-4 weeks ahead doesn't make much sense... there will be some riding over the festive period... where and when depends on what's on offer weatherwise...left the forum March 20230 -

There's also a Madison Cross race at Herne Hill on Jan 1st, which should be a laugh...Pannier, 120rpm.0

So, I went solo... most of the deep mud has dried up, leaving a nice soft terrain where knobbly tyres grip well... lots of leaves, occasionally hiding stones or branches, had a couple of hairy moments. The Thames path between Richmond and Kingston has been cleared of the fallen trees and it's back in business.
Most importantly I have found another bridle that cuts off a piece of the tedious A 307 from Esher to Esher Common. Nice single track passages and a seriously steep sting.
Perfect temperature and tempting food stalls in Kingston... the grip on tarmac is awful, I was glad to be off road most of the morningleft the forum March 20230 -
the 'plan' is to ride Frylands Wood on the 15th (LL) then Footscray on the 29th (also LL). Both EL races are most of the way to Norwich.
If I lose the argument for racing I can always counter with a BR RP CX ride. Will continue to monitor this thread...When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -

That's a hell of a long way to drive for a race. Went to Norfolk for a weekend last August... it took me ages to get thereleft the forum March 20230 -

I should be at Footscray on the 29th. Have to miss the Frylands Wood race, as despite it being 20 mins ride away, it clashes with my eldest's 4th birthday.
It'd be good to catch up.0 -

Not to be rude, but let's try to keep this topic within the title theme... if you want to discuss races, there is another open thread to do just that...left the forum March 20230

Well I followed Ugo's route this afternoon (kind of) and he wasn't wrong about leaves covering hidden dangers. I got a little off the beaten track at one point on the way home and came a cropper in the woods. Nothing to right home about, just a turned in shifter/brake lever but all in all a very pleasant ride, there are some lovely trails through the forests around Esher and Oxshot.0 -

Can't do this weekend, various family arriving from Italy and a big lunch on Sunday. Hope to get out for a decent ride over Christmas though.
I'm struggling with off road at the moment. I've got a frozen shoulder which hurts like a bitch at times, I can't lift the front to clear obstacles. Waiting for a steroid injection, I wonder if it'll help me go faster.0 -
I've mapped a 3 hours route for sunday morning if anyone is interested... kind of 60/40 tarmac off roadleft the forum March 20230

Holy cow what is this? Lightening and thunder at Christmas?
I've never seen this before. Bizarre - how about a South London ride a bit further south - maybe Mallorca or the Var?When a cyclist has a disagreement with a car; it's not who's right, it's who's left.0 -

Yes, but it's been so wet that I am not sure where it's actually possible to go. Esher common is probably OK, as it's sandy soil that drains very well, other stretches are probably just deep bog.
I am not a big fan of deep bog to be honestleft the forum March 20230 -
totally agree, perhaps it might be best to wait a few weekends before attempting one, but I wouldnt mind giving this ride a bash. Does it involve a bit of walking?0
