2 identical bikes are great, but how do you tell them apart? Are they AX or CX?

BTW - if anyone is 5'6" to 5'11" this would make a great race bike: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Van-Dessel- ... 1e78b280d3

I think having different colour saddles disqualifies them from being called identical.
  • All rounder used for a bit of everything, made from scaffold but bombproof and still fun to ride on/off road:

In thought those SRAMs were recalled? Or are these replacements? Nice anyway, what's the top bike? Looks interesting as it has an old school fork crown but disc brakes
  • I was assured that these brakes are post the recall fiasco and therefore safe. Not sure what the issue was with the first batch actually...

The other bike is an All-City Macho Man disc. Crap name, brilliant bike. Not light, heavy in fact, but has a nice smooth ride. Takes a while to wind up to speed, and hates ascents, but carries momentum well and steam rollers broken lanes, bridleways and so on. Recommended. :-)

    Hi all,
This will be my first post. I'm already an active member of a Dutch cycling forum, and I thought it's time to see how the guys and girls abroad deal with issues, what kind of material they use, where they buy it.... Besides that it's smart to enlarge your vocabulary. So please let me know if you want to know to Dutch translation for particular words :D
To remain on topic a pic of my low budget cyclocross bike. It's an old Empella frame (specific cross geometry) with bits and pieces that I had lying around (ultegra shifters, 105 rear derry and a veloce cassette).

Cool! Liking the colour. Useful to have a Dutch speaker around, it's SO hard to translate! French is easy :-)

Love that Giant, if I was doing it all again and didn't already own 7-8 130mm rim-brake wheelsets I'd go for that.

Did you do a reliable, weight-weenie endorsed weighing of it? Hoping it's 7.6-7.8 but I bet it's more 8.2-8.4 or so.

    joost - welcome!

Perhaps you can help translate Sven, LvdH et all for us.

When are you coming over for a race?

You must tell us about what your courses and surfaces are like, curious to see if it's as muddy there as here.

Heres my recently finished effort. Going to use for winter on the road really, with the ability to go on rougher stuff in needed.

    Muddy? Yes, they are....
Keep in mind that the rain you get, will enter my country a couple of hours later :D

Here we can choose, more or less, between 2 kind of courses: those prepared solely for cyclocross (artificial obsticals, muddy, some patches of sand, and grass), and the MTB tracks in the country. Holland is too crowed for real outdoor activities and you always have to share space with others (like hikers, horsemen, etc.). Constantly there is a conflict of interests, but luckily things are starting to change as local governments start to see the impact and benefits of healthy outdoor exercises. Last year my local nature preservation council opened all hiking paths for bicycles (as long as we stay within some kind of code of conduct). So nowadays I can roam the local forests, moors, and can pick a couple of MTB single tracks.

First ride on this, took this whilst waiting for ferry :-

Front brake TRP HY/RD tends to squeal a bit, think its not aligned quite right, but not sure how to adjust.

Got one too, I actually quite like the name, it is different to the boring ones out there. Yes, my thoughts exactly, a ride nice, heavy, but smooth ride. I am really enjoying it. How have you kitted it out? Your wheels look different, what rubber are you using? Mine is pretty much stock.

  • Turns out I'm pretty fit, good at dismounts, and bloody amazing at spinning through deep mud!

    (Obviously way of challenging though)

I like a proper muddy course with dismounts, not a fan of grass criteriums :-)

Cheap and cheerful! A Revolution Cross one of Edinburgh Bicycle Coop's own.

    image.jpg1_zpsg3jqfxph.jpg

does remind me, of MTBing pre suspension disks etc.

taken it for a few little 45mile loops around the Surrey Hills, lots of fun, it's brakes are fairly poor but this is mostly comparison to my other two bikes which are MTB's with disks and decent tyres.

I'm mainly enjoying brideway riding though it's decent enough on tarmac.

New, to me, race bike for this year.

    10868092_1603936336542751_2962368430733543350_n.jpg?oh=f8e6ee88e6e13dd09220e5eebf49d52d&oe=5634CD00

This will be my do everything bike so will be in France for two weeks touring and general road riding. Need to source some bombproof clincher training wheels. Also need to change to traditional bend bars on it and a PM when i decide what one to get.
It's not so much about winning, I just hate losing.

It's lovely on the road, particularly on the rough stuff. I've no reason to think it's anything other than sublime off road.
