ive just finished refurbing / rebuilding this , got it secondhand for £130 from a guy on a local american airbase. i believe its a Nashbar steel cyclocross with carbon fork. ive spent a further £100 to get it to its current state. :D

ive changed the chainset and bottom bracket for sram rival i had spare from a previous project, changed the cassette and chain , recabled the brakes and gear inners and outers , replaced the bartape ,added shimano spds , changed the tyres , changed the front brake to a tektro cr720 and stripped and serviced the rear tektro oryx brake changing the pads to cr720 cartrige inserts with koolstop pads ( i didnt change it to a cr720 due to clearance issues when out of the saddle), swapped the saddle to a spare i had, stripped and serviced the rear hub and regreased the whole bike. ive also given it a cleandown and added some subtle graphics :D

im really pleased with how its turned out its gonna make a really fun alternative to my race bike for exploring trails etc and double as a great winter/ wet weather bike with some guards fitted. i cant wait to give it a proper thrashing :P

Something I put together for use as a gravel / adventure type of thing, for stringing together bridleways and country lanes without spending a fortune with bits I had lying around or got off fleabay. Its a Voodoo Limba frame, Mantel carbon forks, 105 / Ultegra 10 speed mix with a CX70 front mech, Specialized bars, tiffosi carbon post, FSA gossamer chainset, FSA stem, Tektro mini-V's, that sort of thing. Only been for a quick spin on it, and needs some fettling / setting up, but it seems to ride well so far.

Just 'done up' my old Boardman CX Team. Gone full hydro (was running Hope V-Twin) & 1x10 speed with Sram S-700 & Apex levers, GX2.1 clutch mech & Superstar narrow-wide chainring (36t paired with 11-32 cassette). Looking forward to getting back off-road and away from the traffic.

Bought this a couple of weeks ago and can confirm it's almost as fast as my road bike

Raleigh RX Team. Sram Force CX1, Cole T38 tubular, Schwalbe Racing Ralph HT Evo.
Changed the saddle for my favourite perch, fitted a bottle cage, glued the tubs on and I've covered 150 comfortable miles in the first week

And three sets of disc wheels between them. Which is so utterly convenient!

  • What do you think of the pro lite wheels? Considering some for my Giant TCX Advanced.
  • Mine, 2016 Raleigh RX Comp. Changed the finishing kit to 3T and a Prologo Scratch saddle. Just had a service and new white cables fitted.

As a CX race bike I use the CX chainset and a set of FFWD tubular wheels and as a commuting bike pictured below with a compact chainset.

Frame was far to small for me, and I've since upgraded to a bigger one! :D

A shame as the GT was a LOVELY frame. Really light, tons of mud clearance and unusual. I've got it for sale on eBay at the moment.

Campag worked well for me. Never missed a shift and chain never came off, running short cage campaign rear mech and NW ring.

Sorry, missed that, review here and they are still the same. Chap in general had problems with his mind.

If you can get them price matched at Wiggle, great. If not it's a lot to pay and, to be honest, I prefer the ease of mounting tyres onto the Fulcrum Racing 5 DB

Bought this Kinesis Crosslight Pro4 frame off ebay last year for 60 bucks, initially for commuting. Built using mostly spares, but recently bought this pair of Fulcrum Racing 5 cx's.

Using it now for commuting into Glasgow but looking to take up CX. Can anyone recommend where I can try my hand at this; routes in central belt or clubs with beginners groups, etc.?

  • Here's mine.
Can be seen mostly racing London X league Vets or assaulting the Surrey Hills south of Epsom.

It can run 29er tyres up to 48c (which is 1.75) for hooning about in the woods but I'm racing it with normal-width CX tyres while it's fast and dryish. If it gets really muddy this year I might race it on the 48s.

  • No pic without me in it sorry.

54cm (usually a 56) which makes it a pretty aggressive ride. Stiff as hell on the climbs as well.

Finally built up my new Paul Milnes frame.

Running Shimano 10 speed rather than Campag, as that is what my kids are running and it makes wheel swapping and spares easier for CX!

Frame is big but reach is spot on and it didn't feel too big on my test ride. Paul Milnes spent some time suggesting the right size via email/phone and taking my measurements from my road frame (where I ride a 59cm).

Here is my build so far:

    26Nov16.jpg

Mk1 PX Uncle John frame - large, S/H
    Kinesis DC37 Fork
    Stronglight O-Light R headset
    FSA OS-190 stem - 90mm (garage stock)
    Shimano cartridge BB (garage stock)
    Whyte RD-7 wheels, S/H
    Shimano short-cage 105 rear mech, S/H

I have some FSA Vero cranks to go on it, along with a Superstar Components red anodised 36T NW chainring.
FSA Omega bars with Shimano 105 shifters, both garage stock.

All my own work so far including headset & crown race installation which I did at the Reading Bicycle Kitchen using their Park Tools presses.

So a few things to get yet. Biggest unknown is brakes. I was all set to go for Spyres but now considering CX77, HY/RD & JuinTech R1s. What I do know is I will need a 140mm rear rotor as the 160mm is pretty damn close to the chainstay!
