Well I can account for the difference from my standard weight to its current weight, but I cant say why yours is starting from 24 and mine from 21.5lbs.
So I lost the handlebar brake levers 97g, took off the bottle cage 56g, swapped the seat post 148g and saddle 48g, inner tube 42g, skewers 63g, and the biggy the Pro Lite Comos for Hope Pro 3's with Stans Alpha 340 rims 740g.
Had Schwalbe CX Pros on for both weighs, with crank bro candys.
Size small.
Rides much more nicely post weight loss!0 -
I'll weigh again after the peaks with lighter tubes, tires. And shorten my cable I just stood on some scales with the bike, so not the most accurate!0

Steel again by any chance? The Sanko 7005 Al-tubed ones from memory had chunkier rear triangles with rack mounts and mudguard eyes.

Columbus trible butted aluminium I think, sticker is partly worn off. Would love to find out more about the Fort frame but cant seem to find one that looks like this. I just love retro bikes even though it is a brute compared to most of the bikes I will be racing against ( but then it is the man not the bike...lol )0

Nice! Always good to see a bit of steel on the thread. Judging from the spec on the Hackney GT website, it looks to be Reynolds 725-equivalent. Not bad for £450 with a carbon fork thrown in. That discreet rear brake cable stop on the seat clamp is a really neat touch, reminiscent of Messrs. Baker, Gould & Salmon's team-issue Peugeots from the late 80s/early 90s.
Further edit: £395? Even better value

Thanks David, I'd been eyeing one up for about a year, I just thought £450 was a tad too much but the price got dropped to £395 so I went for it. Raced it for the first time on Sunday and loved it, Front end is a tad high for my liking but stem is as low as I can get it. Otherwise, its a nice light and nimble bike. Some days you're the statue, other days you are the pigeon.0

Thought this was aluminium, when i tap the downtube it sounds like aluminium, when i look inside the seat tube, it looks like aluminium, but you are right I think, it must be steel. The seat tube sticker is worn but what I can read is
Columbus
Trible butted Thermacro _______

so I think now it is Columbus FOCO tubing so rather a nice surprise. It did ride rather plush when I took it out on the road and I am really looking forward to using it as a winter bike. Tad heavy when shouldering during cross races but that I will live with as otherwise it handles perfectly.
Anyone with any more details on these frames fell free to enlighten me, thanks.0 -

Nice Forme there Mike, saddle looks a smidge far back on those rails? careful landing on the saddle when re-mounting, the rails may well bust? My Kium ones on my Antares did. Or use a post with a bit more set back like a 3T Dorico? Some days you're the statue, other days you are the pigeon.0

Not sure when they were manufactured, but I bought mine in late 2004 (built it up Christmas 2004) and even then it was second-hand! They're now discontinued, since when I don't know. In as-new condition the fork supplied was actually a traditional Cr-Mo steel one (1" threadless) with cast crown, but most I've seen have a Sintema carbon fork substituted. There seem to be subtle differences in seat clamps - some have one integral with the seat lug, mine has a separate Fort-branded alloy one. Colour schemes largely seem to have been red, yellow or blue often with extra vinyl graphics added.

Thanks for the reply David, the guy I bought this off also had a yellow one, bought by a fellow Bikeradar member and also shown here in an earlier post.
My bike has the integrated seat clamp, I had an idea the original forks must have been steel, I'm happy enough with the carbon forks on the bike now.
Had a some brake shudder, was able to eliminate most of it by shortening the distance of cable from the hanger, and by toeing in the brake pads, but still a little shudder at low speed. Got a hanger that bolts to the front fork and this has eliminated shudder completely, really happy with the bike now. First race on Sunday so I hope to survive and go on to race many more.DavidBelcher wrote:uptheswa wrote:DavidBelcher wrote:uptheswa wrote:my bike, another older Fort

Lovely set up. What brakes / pads do you have and how's it working out ? I have the same frame/ fork, Tektro 520 cantis and kool stop mountain pads. The judder is driving me insane!!
Using TRP cantis and whatever pads I have lying around ( carbon pads for the deeps) No problems with judder at all. The TRPs aren't cheap but they work really well.0 -
