What makes you say that? If he can recapture his 2012 form then surely he is in with a chance? He put 42 seconds into TM and over 2 mins into FC at the Olympics. And beat them both comprehensively at the Tour (albeit TM was injured).
Is Froome racing this?
Because this time Martin is actually in good shape, riding competitive racing in the Vuelta and is without injuries from crashes *knocks on wood*. The route is dead flat and also happens to be in Florence rather than in front of thousands of brits.
Of course he in with a chance, It's Wiggins afterall. But I wouldn't bet anything on him.0 -

Eurosport coverage is like 15:00 GMT
They are already racing though, Tony Martin is on course at the moment0 -

Westra's currently leading, with 1:43 over next placed rider, Bewley0 -
Cycling news live text doesn't seem to be working, any links to something similar?0

Might be worth a little wager on Der Panzerwagen then as I suspect Wiggo will be red hot favourite with the British bookies. Mind you the Olympic TT was pretty flat too.0

Alasdair Fotheringham reconnoitred the time trial course yesterday evening, describing it as "18 kilometres of very gentle climbing - apart from one steeper ‘ramp’ of around two kilometres - and 18 kilometres of very gentle descending, made for out-and-out time triallsts who can handle a bit of a gradient." He notes that the climbers will "have a tough time holding their own" in spite of the presence of the climb of Moncayo on the parcours and suggests that Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) will fancy his chances of landing stage victory.

Njah, the bookies - not only the British - aren't as thick as the once were. Martin will be the favorite for this one and the odds will reflect that as well.0 -
Der Panzerwagen is rolling.
2mins on #2 Pinotti at the 2nd checkpoint0 -

Eeeek. Superb.0 -
Ah, so that's Pinotti's level without help from italian motorbike pacing..0

Crosswinds, making the TT bike tough to handle, according to Luke Rowe after his TT. Aint gonna help the little climbers, that0

Well there we go.
Tony Martin in 2:35 ahead of 2nd for the time being.
---
Cancellara on course too now so I guess we'll get a marker of just how fast Tony is (or how much Cancellara put into helping Horner on the mountains)
---
Cancellara 46s slower on the first checkpoint0 -
It's like watching football on Teletext...damn Eurosport. Wonder if we'll see TM in the highlights tonight0
-
Nice ride from Barta. In 2nd and miles down on Tony, but a decent bit of padding over Grivko in 3rd and Pinotti in 4th.0
-
Interesting comments from Pinotti re Cancellara in Velonation article. Reckons if Martin smashes Cancellara's time today - which looks highly likely - it'll decide it for Fabien to just target the road race rather than the TT. Pinotti says he'll have no interest in riding for silver.0

Nibali has been stung around the eye by a wasp, apparently."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0
-
Martin destroyed the best time so far by 3'35".
Cancellara started VERY (worrying?) carefully.
Nibali stung by a wasp.0 -

Pinotti is usually a class act, to finsh 2 and a bit minutes down means that Tony Martin is absolutley on his game. Fantastic stuff.0

I think the course favours Cancellara more than Martin. That said Martin is in great form and is currently the best TTer on the planet. Will be close between the two with Nibs best of the rest. Valverde will do ok, but JRod might lose a lot of time.
Horner will be watched with interest by all. It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.0 -

Holy crap
Cancellara has 30 seconds on Martin in the second checkpoint!
More than a minute swing from the first0 -
