You can pretty much guarantee that when echelons form there a Dutchman or a Belgian involved somewhere.

Bizarrely in the case of Rabobank (as was) for a few years recently , usually in one of the chasing groups.

    STAT ATTACK
Courtesy of the official Tour de France website:

At the start of stage 12, after 1,743.5km of racing in the 100th Tour de France, the two riders at the top of the overall rankings are separated by 3'25". In terms of distance, this equates to 2,347 metres between Froome and Valverde.

The Lanterne Rouge (the rider in 182nd and last place overall) Dmitriy Muravyev is 2 hours, 6'24" adrift - in terms of distance, that is 86.442km, or right back to the start of today's stage.

Sat in the office, the aircon isn't working, it's feckin' hot, I'm knackered because our baby woke up at 0350 hrs and wouldn't go back to sleep, I'm fed up of work generally and I really wish that the stage was on the external screen at CW now so I could decamp for half an hour

So are they already in echelons or not? Are we just hoping for a bit of echelon action here, or are we getting some?

Its absolutely freezing in our office, everyone has been complaining about how cold it is. I feel it more with my BFI of about 10.

Think it was more hope than actually going to happen. Not sure the winds are strong enough for any splits.

115km to run. Froome still has some team-mates with him.

Froome goggle update: Jawbones. White top half, yellow bottom half.

And all of the Sky team seem to have those silly aero-lids on.

18 year old on debut. He's the hihest scoring no.11 on debut in test history.

As to the Sky lids... I say again. It's a chuffing Tuff Top.

Playmobile called. Apparently one of the new figures has gone AWOL. Last seen cycling away from the factory.

Just looked on BetFair, the odds are utter crap on the favourites so I'll keep my money. I suspect Cavendish will destroy everyone today.

got 67-1 on Matt Goss last night
£3 ew nets me c£250 for the win or £52 for 2nd/3rd

appreciate this is definitely a punt but he wa right up there in the last sprint and got caught behind the veelers crash and for a man of that class 67-1 sounds worth it

At times cycling is a really, really unsexy sport. This is one of those times.

I'm fully expecting Vayer to have an equation for this.
