the yellow jersey team ride as hard enough to make the stage winnable so the sprinters take over late-earlier depending on the time gap from the jersey to the riders in the break on GC"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. Apparently Brittany has had human inhabitants since the Lower Paleolithic era. The first settlers were Neanderthals who were later to be replaced by homo sapiens who developed large-scale primitive industries. After the last ice age and when Brittany became heavily forested large communities began to establish themselves before migrants coming from the Mediterranean and further east introduced agriculture. As these agricultural practices were slowly absorbed into the communities already living in Brittany, Brittany became a core area of megalithic culture. There are many monuments to this important period in Brittany’s history, the most famous of which is of course Carnac, a series of standing stones which includes the Broken Menhir of Er Grah in Locmariaquer which is the largest ever stone erection by Neolithic man. No laughing at the back.
actually [pedant]the current thinking on carnac is they are mesolithic and are a response to neolithic cultural invasion..an attempt to assert control of the landscape against those that would farm it.. the time period for construction places them in a transitionary period[/pedant]
Further - would nt it be more accurate to say that Brittany has evidence of palaeolithic habitation? I find it hard to believe that Brittany had settlers and the Languedoc had settlers but that there were none in between. More likely that the evidence for the inhabitants of Mid France has been destroyed? Dunno - maybe I'm being too geological, this is like reading yesterdays newspaper for me...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

ie; if the highest guy in the break is 30mins down on GC they wont ride that hard BUT otoh etc."If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. Later Brittany became home to the following Celtic tribes: The Curiosolitae, Namnetes, Osismii, Redones , Veneti and the Hinaults, OK not that last one, and Brittany is one of the six Celtic nations.
Fast forward to the present day and Brittany had been characterised by a strong Catholic and conservative influence. However, in the industrial regions around Saint-Nazaire, Lorient and Tréguier the Socialist and Communist parties are popular, making these towns left-wing strongholds. Since the 1970s the Socialist party and the Greens, have become more and more powerful while the far-right has little popular support in Brittany.
Brittany is well know for its ocean sun fish,
The Breton horse,
The escargot de Quimper,
The freshwater pearl mussel, the white-clawed crayfish and the Brittany Gun Dog.

Despite being 2 men down and having their ass handed to them on the previous stage? That's a sick note if they wanted it. No?...a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0 -

On a similar note fingers crossed for a Ten Dam podium.
I can't see that happening (the podium rather than the finger crossing) - just an armchair pundit view with no real basis other than the "Ten Dam who" school of thought.
He's been getting better and better each year. You gotta like a pro who puts his rides & races on Strava and gives them a name of guess strava gives me a tough suffer score today. No way Ten Dam can get a Paris podium - he's got to have his big crash yet and ride the rest of the race with a big bandage wrapped around his face, hasn't he?0 -

well it can all complicated and that but do you want to signal weakness... what if they sit up and do nothing?
perhaps they hope they can give the jersey to some other team for a week OR the tdf rides off down the road OR etc.
I think the sprinters will control things sooner rather than later tbh"If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. Sure, I can like him, but historically my liking a rider and them appearing on the podium is poorly correlated.0 -

I thought he was cr4p.. TBH. the idea we should all just forget it and move on no questions asked is laughable. He wants to have a go at anybody it should be the culture/riders/staff who got them all the reputation in the first place...I mean people are still testing positive for EPO in this years giro FFS!!!
I quiet like the nodding donkey thing, makes it look as hard. plus how on earth are you suppose to tell whether he is on a good day or not?
Cycling does have a problem ... but until there is a doping story linked to this Tour the journalists and coat-tail grabbers should focus on the myriad of other stories linked to the race ... Every rider, start town, region etc. has a story to tell ...
If I were a rider/DS I'd answer a doping question by asking if the journo was a shoplifter or serial adultarer ... just while we're asking daft questions ...0 -

ok I am Chris froome asked the question
I would start my answer with something like " Look I can understand given the ongoing history of the sport and drugs that these questions are raised but I think we need a more measured and rational approach in how we go about addressing this issue together as a sport and journalists......etc... not "i think its disrespectful" how stupid an answer is that. blah blah blah journalists asking to many questions blah blah... if he addressed the concern straight away there would be more talk on the race/tactics/ HOW THE F88K IS HE STILL IN THE JERSEY!...etc
cycling as sport as yet to earn respect on this issue and it will take YEARS if not DECADES more time before that happens, but I think it will.
meanwhile who's highest on GC in the break."If I was a 38 year old man, I definitely wouldn't be riding a bright yellow bike with Hello Kitty disc wheels, put it that way. What we're witnessing here is the world's most high profile mid-life crisis" Afx237vi Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:43 pm0 -

I've been to those stones - we went during our first TdF in 2011. Very impressive actually - no where near as big as Stonehenge in terms of mass, but a lot more stones with a far more intricate layout.0 -
Midi - I for one wouldnt mind awfully if doping questions were left until the rest day...
Asking it the day beofe, on the day and the day etc etc after just leads to the repeated banal, meaningless response we re used to at the moment. If there was one day then maybe riders/teams could prepare something a bit more substantial (unlikely I suppose)We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence
