I see the iainf72 rule of sprint stages is as accurate as ever

Remind me- is it overall number of pages or pages after the finish in a non Cav win?

If its total pages you might need to apply some correction factor for the arguments/Judith Chalmers section at the start of spoiler threads these days.

Shot 1=>2 Veelers goes left, looking at Cavendish
Shot 2=>3 Cavendish goes right to overtake Veelers, as he had to
Shots 3=>5 Veelers goes right, into Cavendish's line

    = crash

Slowing leadout men need to behave in a predictable way (straight line, or pull to 1 side) otherwise it's hardly surprising that they'll collide with others contesting the sprint

Respect to Stannard and EBH. The others pretty useless.

Is it true Frrome picked the team?

If that is the case, not a very strong one is it?

The crucial point is that they are rapidly approaching a left bend. This fact exacerbates Veelers' switch to the right. He is blatantly trying to interfere with Cavendish. Cavendish needs to go left but is rapidly running out of room so desperately (and recklessly) takes a line that he knows will involve contact. Cavendish probably should have been demoted as a result but Veelers should also have been punished.

No. It was clearly the behaviour of someone who was incredibly frustrated. He shouldn't have faced the press at all, it just made him worse.

No, it's utter crap. He's only been in the Yellow Jersey for the last 5 days or whatever it is, they should be disgusted with themselves :P

SO blatant that Cav could have avoided it. Even if he hadn`t hit Veeler`s bars he sure would have hit his front wheel. He clearly

So what if Tom went 1ft left. Cav knows he could simply keep pedalling for another 2m then swing by. If he had done that he might have even won. By knocking Veelers he lost some speed and concentration.

Its not like Cav is a first or even third year pro. He has more experience at the front end of a sprint then anyone else there.

If you are going to be reasonable then you need to apportion blame to each side. Veelers should not have moved over. He clearly knew what he was doing and it was unnecessary. Cav went around him, but then lost his rag and did him over. He was frustrated. People don't think straight when they're frustrated. It's not as simple as 'Cav's the villain' Frenchie.

Bernie hasn't had a great season at SKY so who knows? That said, I got the impression he didn't go to OPQS with Cav because he wanted a break. I can imagine Mark is hard work TBH.

Very true, but compared to last years team that stayed strong, admittedly it was mainly Froome.

Also any truth in the team catching a bug or something? That could explain it.

I agree with that, not a good idea to face the press pack on the bus doorstep so soon.

he was full-on embarrassed by what he had done.

people do things they regret to such an extent its hard to let go of the notion that people do not really have a high degree of control on their own behaviour in the first place especially given a high pressure situation. Its like there is two people in one head, one watching the other..."OMG what have I done?" we have all experienced it. the way he looked back instead of towards the line...

but he is a seasoned professional

not as bad as hooking up Haussler in the tour de swiss but it was dam lucky only one rider came down, veelers did block but thats part of it as well.

    sprinting

I think the problem is that in previous Tours, Cav has either had things completely his own way, or mostly his own way and this year his competitors are arguably very good. He's just getting frustrated.

Is it the inner chimp ? I suppose its part of the winning mentality but he is a terrible loser

I love this quote from the Cycling News article someone linked to earlier:

"It's not the first time in the Tour it's gone like this. In 2010 it took five stages to win, and he was beaten by Petacchi a few times. That's life," Holm said, and then smiled. "I think we'll get over it – sooner or later."

He so has the measure of Mark. He's a brilliant DS. If I were ever to start my own Team (EuroMillions multiple rollover incoming), I would definitely want Brian and Rolf. Awesome!

That's good in a way though. It demonstrates passion and commitment. I can be a complete **** when I get frustrated so I'm in no position to slag him off

Look at Cav leaning into Tom while he is centred on his bike and going straight.

And what about before that? Where Veelers stops pedalling and then looks back, then starts pedalling again and veers right into Cav? It isn't black and white mate. Sometimes it is, but I do feel that incident was a case of 'six and 2 threes'.

Why was Porte apologising to Quintana (if he actually was - does nt look much like it to me...)

yeah he did go a bit 'Texan' on Quintana - think he should have kept his mouth shut, Quintana made him look a fool the next day as punishment.

According to the itv podcast the presence of Oroz in that breakaway was a massive boost to euskatel as they only have 45 days or so to raise, i think it was 6m euros in order to continue as a team.
