  • Just got my loser magazine in the post :(

I'm not going to go for a charity place this year, as I can't hit my friends and family for more money, but if anyone's thinking of heading in that direction, I received an email from DEBRA and they're offering places for £35 entry and a minimum of £400 raised, which should be a pretty easy target to hit.

Have fun, those of you lucky enough to be doing it; it's an amazing experience!
  • I'm in. Wife isn't. Awkward.

How much do you have to raise for them?

    £500.

They have just been awarded 100 places, because they've been chosen as the charity partner for 2014.

btw - I was there first, so all donations to Bliss from these boards need to go to MY JustGiving page!!!!!

Didn't get in. Looking at going the charity place route myself. At which point mine will be the one to sponsor of course. Hmmm, text donations too...

Got in - a bit belatedly - via Alzheimer's society... £800 is a lot to find, but ultimately worth it :)

Don't forget to turn up will you.......

    What? Too much....?

Can I just remind everyone at this point that my charity place was the first and original!!!!!!

Plus I've made it easy for you! Text giving! Do it now!!

Around 80,000 babies are born each year in the UK needing specialist hospital care, this is one in nine babies. For many families having a baby admitted to a neonatal unit is a unique and frightening experience. Although a number of families will be diagnosed as having a high risk pregnancy, for the majority, this situation is neither expected nor prepared for.

    • £10 provides crucial telephone support for a family through our helpline

    • £25 buys a full set of information booklets for a family to help them understand their baby’s treatment and development

    • £40 allows an overwhelmed parent to attend a counselling session with a Bliss-trained counsellor

    • £100 provides essential training for a parent-to-parent volunteer

    • £500 funds a Bliss parent support group for a whole year

I would consider supporting one of you lot but only if your charity is one that supports babies with alzheimers.

Ooh, should have said I got in with a charity place for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. Particularly keen on them as I had Hodkins Lymphoma a while back.
Does that mean if Rick doesn't sponsor me it is personal?

Apologies. I'm not canvassing for sponsors. I'm just happy to be in :)

Rick - the intention is that it is the Cycling equivalent of the London Marathon - it is run by the same people and I'm guessing that it is an easier "sell" to the powers that be if you can point to the good done to the charity sector by closing down most of central and South West London and Surrey....

If anyone's interested in a charity place - the charity we run have a couple of spaces - see www.georgesfoundation.org for an idea of what we do. Drop me a PM if you're interested and we can talk about fundraising and stuff like that.

Is there any reason why one might not just join the route by accident and cycle it?

Would you expect people to climb the barriers at the London Marathon and just "have a go"?

    No.

There is a lot more space on this though.

There's a lot of space on the pitch at Twickenham during a game of sevens too, but let's face it, if you're not invited, haven't paid, or haven't raised charity money for that event you really oughtn't be on the course.

It's not a public pitch though is it?

I think it's fairly bad idea to do so but equally it is a public road.

Isn't the point simply that it is a closed roads event. So the roads are closed to the public.
