As there's been some thread resurrection i thought I'd add that my rear drop-out hack is still holding strong! I had the issue of a slightly misaligned rear wheel as others have mentioned in here. Got some 2 pack/ Araldite and added a slither where needed to correct....So far, so good.
Also installed DA9000 groupset and Reynolds Assaults 8).
Nice! I still have the wheel alignment problem, which makes me nervous about fitting 25mm tyres, so I might have a go at fixing this sometime with your solution. I've recently fitted eTap and Zipp carbon finishing kit (post and bars only - new stem is still alloy), and I'm now running a tubeless tyre setup. 16k miles in, I'm still loving this bike, but I'm ashamed to admit I've recently been entertaining thoughts of a new frameset although I am struggling to find anything comparable in the sub-£500 bracket :D
I too have the rear dropout misalignment issue but have no issues running 25mm Pave CGs.

Also recently got a Solace disc for a touch more compliance, but this coincided with me getting a Ergon/Canyon-copy "leafspring" style seat post off ebay (2nd hand for only 30 odd quid!). The seatpost has transformed the ride of the CR1 for the better, so almost nullifying the compliance benefits of my new Solace

this weekend i've twice ridden from Wiltshire to Hampshire/Berkshire then over to Oxfordshire and back and I can say all four counties roads are shite, my shoulders and hands hurt.

seeing as the SM-BB91-41B bottom bracket is now discontinued what other options are available for 24mm Shimano cranksets?

Why are there so many BB standards ?!?!?!

short windy ride on the Zipp seatpost and it does feel less teeth chattering than the 3T, time will tell

Out on my CR1 today. Silent drivetrain, comfy tyres (Vittoria CG Paves in 25mm) and 50mm rims with little to no wind. Fits like a glove. New Keo 2 Blade pedals seem nice. Bloody love this bike 8) :D

...owes me nothing, most bits bought off ebay for marginal outlay. Might treat it to a bling new cable set over winter, and maybe a nice new BB (both cables and BB are the original build items, so not bad for saying built it over 4 years ago  )

What?? Surely Shimano will continue to offer something for press-fit BB86. It's pretty common.

My CR1 is sulking out on the patio. I've moved it out of the garage cos the plasterers are to and fro with buckets of water and I don't want it knocked over

    Panic over!

SM-BB92-41B and SM-BB72-41B seem to be the current offerings. As usual, vague claims about lower weight and better seals...

I thought the BB92 was the MTB model?

  • I think my cr1 has the original BB In which now needs replacing. I used a big allen key as a drift and gave it quite a few hard blows with the hammer and it didnt move at all. Are they normally very tight or should i use a better drift? If and when i get it out should i apply any fibre paste or other substance to fit the new one or is it best to put it in clean?

Do tell more as I´ve this problem in all three Addicts. I´m not sure what a slither is. Sorry, English is not my mother tongue. I don´t suppose you could post a couple of photos of the repair?

Adding pics on here gets on my t+ts but basically I loosened skewer and took chain off cassette. I then moved the wheel until I'd got a mental image of exactly where i needed to add to align. Then mixed the 2 pack and waited for it to start curing. I'd put electrical tape on outer of stays to keep job tidy. Added small amounts to locations then just before it'd fully cured I put wheel back in, lined up and tightened.
Took 2 attempts, 1st time I let the Araldite go for too long. This meant it didn't adhere to the frame. 2nd time seems good. 20% skills / 80% fluke 8)

Slither is what snakes do. A sliver on the other hand is a thin piece of something. To be fair, they are next to each other in my Oxford English Dictionary.

I wondered that. I attached around 6 pics. I will try sending a couple in a mo individually.
  • I have a Scott CR1 and i need to change the pressfit BB but for the life of me i cant budge it? I have a drift (rocket type) which sits neatly against bearing and i have given it several fairly big whacks with a hammer and its not moved at all. I have given it an almighty whack which was way above my comfort zone for carbon fibre and still it wont move. So question is am i still hitting it too lightly or have i forgotten to do something? I have read that one person ended up having to cut his out so is it a tight fit, glued or just stubborn? Any recommendations?

Thanks for the instructions. I´ll be ordering some resin then. Did you apply some grease on the locknut before refitting the wheel?

After seeing two broken rear mech hangers on the last two club classic trips, i think its high time i purchased a spare for mine, what a total piss in the ar$e travelling all the way to Belgium only to have your bike break before you even start an event or worse during an event.

Its also worth checking you have the right tools to remove the mech hanger, for example De Rosa bikes use 2.5mm fixing screws, not a normal bike tool size.

Might as well swap out the original BB, its seen a fair amount of abuse.

Anyone still riding their Westbrook specials? First ride out on mine for few months, and I have to confess I'd forgotten just how well it rides. Think I might try and treat it to some proper lightweight parts this year, and maybe some nice 38mm carbon rims.

Since getting a carbon disc bike with bigger clearances the CR1 hasn't really had much of a look in, especially with the wet weather, but I was amazed at how accomplished the ride was in comparison despite the crappy roads...love it!

Yes, but probably not this side of the clocks changing. Still salting the roads round here and I don't want the components trashing.

Still riding the winter bike. Even on the sunniest days of late the shady bits of road have been staying wet all day, and I don't want to be spraying myself or the bike with salty slurry. I am about to fit it with new (to me) pedals and give it a quick once-over in anticipation though.

I'm always pleasantly surprised by it when I do get the first ride of the year. Proper grin-inducing.

Mine is much loved, and with the arrival of the foil, probably going to become my distance/hill climb stead.

Gp4000s will be its treat for the spring and I have a 36t oval ring and some supacaz bar tape to fit 8)

I’ve got two, one for best, one for the commute. Bought the second accidentally from eBay fully built. Have done two winters on it so far. Mines prob a bit too small and as a result too twitchy.

Meant to ride my disc winter bike this year but due to a few issues with it have used the CR1 again. Enjoyed the responsiveness of it throughout he winter so can’t complain.

    Both are too small?
What size did you go for?

  • Mine is stripped and hanging in the the garage, it gives up its parts so I can try out a Spesh Roubaix SL4 over winter. I might even turn it into my best bike in summer, it does ride well.
