Looks like a nice day for a pootle through the Italian countryside.

I assume a race might break out near the end of the stage.

Cavendish has sprouted a beard. That'll slow him down.

Cav takes the sprint...for 2pts. Cadel doesn't contest it. Breakaway has 4 mins 20

Back at the race, the lead is down to 3 mins.

If you're bored the BBC has an article about the war between cyclists and motorists in this country. Always a good subject for opinions.

Huh... Declan just suggested replacing the feedzone with air dropping musettes from a helicopter. I'm fairly sure that would be MORE dangerous and the riders would be LESS likely to get fed than they are now, which is surely the wrong way round.
He wasn’t being serious, Graeme_S, just commentating on the risks of the feed zone. Of course a helicopter wouldn’t work. Heck, they’d starve if the weather closed in. :D

Declan Quigley is getting more out of Sean Kelly than anyone ever managed in the past. I’m starting to like the Eurosport commentary.

(Don’t worry, I do understand the need for some cycling fans to lambast all English-speaking commentary. Have at it if it makes you feel good.)

Do you work for Eurosport or are you Declan's mother ?

Well done for defending him anyway , please tell me David Harmon is coming back though

Well the one thing I will say for DQ's commentary is it's a blessed relief when ES are having technical difficulties like they are now... ;)

Yeah. Must be nice to be able to scare away all comers by merely looking around while approaching an intermediate sprint.

Trust me it works for me, but in my case it scares away all the women...

Does having a stage this long and flat before a mountain TT really make any sense - could have been a bit shorter or a bit lumpier imo.

Yeah it is a bit of a 'nothing' stage to be honest. Especially this late on - if it had been any flatter and all the sprinters have left the race in week two it really would be utterly pointless.

    Yep not far off now
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.
