    Breakaway of Rubiano, Durbridge, Dockx and Belkov has a gap of 4'40 on the peloton.
    Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.

    Be interesting if OPQS pull any breaks back before the TV sprints. Two wins in those could do Cav a few favours and give him some breathing space but they are quite close together and not too far from the finish. The second one also seems to be on the descent of a small hill.

    Actually edit that last bit, not sure what I had looked at!

    How many points cushion does he have over Cadel? Bearing in mind the next couple of stages wont be kind to him...

    Agree that Cav surprised me too at Cherrasco, and has been climbing very well, but those climbs were all around 4% with no really steep bits. Today has a km over 10 % and the whole climb is much steeper. I'd be very surprised if Cav wins it today

    Not going to start a new thread for this but anyone know how the points are allocated per stage. The Road Book doesn't have it and it seems to vary by the stage.

    FYI As at the end of Stage 16:
    Cav 109
    Cuddles 103
    Betancur 85
    Santambrogio 84
    Nibs 78
    Uran 76

    Looks probably like a straight fight between Cav and Cuddles.

    For the stage 25, 20, 16, 14, 12, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
    For the intermediate 8, 6,4, 3, 2, 1

    Last four winners on paper have been climbing types. Bennati won in 2008.

    And if at the end, two or more riders have the same number of total points, then the one of them who won the most stages takes the prize.

    re: red jersey competition. There are no points awarded in the time trial. So if Cavendish were to win today and get 25 points then he would have a lead of 31 points over Evans. With a sprint likely on the final day and the two mountaintop finishes subject to the vagaries of weather, this could put Cavendish in a very solid position.

    Cav, bluffing ferociously behind the entire OPQS Armada.

    Do the teams object to broadcasting speed telemetry from the TV motos? Or is it a cost/technology issue? It would have been fantastic info yesterday as the group hammered after the break, and especially the descent.

    Huh... Declan just suggested replacing the feedzone with air dropping musettes from a helicopter. I'm fairly sure that would be MORE dangerous and the riders would be LESS likely to get fed than they are now, which is surely the wrong way round.

    Ah ha. Thanks, have been caught up with things today and so have not been keeping up with my 'social media'. I'd seen elsewhere (can't remember where now) that it was for drafting.
