Just picked up my Giant Defy Advanced 2. I promised myself a carbon fibre bike when I hit 30, well I'm about 6 months late but at least I've now got it ready for the weather improving. Hopefully it'll give me the kick up the backside to get back to riding to and from work. Plans for it are to remove the bell and reflectors ( ). Put an ass saver on and my garmin 500. I am not sure about the white saddle and white bar tape. I've got them now so I'll see how dirty they look from 4-6 weeks use before I take it back for it's first service. If they look crap I'll be changing them for black. The seat already has a blue tinge from my jeans riding it the 2 miles home.

Ha yea looking at it in the photo they do look high. I think it's because, the seat is completely the wrong height. It felt right in the shop but felt about 2inches too low when riding it.

For a carbon fibre frame, with a 105 group set and disk brakes, I think they are a steal, nothing comes close to this spec for the money. I know people will say there are better spec/quality aluminum framed bikes for the money.

Can I ask, did you have the shop to fit the stem in the positive position, is that your preference, or was it already fitted in that orientation?

it is exactly how the shop fitted it? I'll be going for a bike fit when I get back and have done a few hundred miles.

edit, looking at it compared to photos on line, the white line on it looks wrong. But if it was upside down then it would be pointing really low wouldn't it?

Not meant to be a criticisum just curious as to why the shop fitted that way. Most bikes I looked at when I was buying my Defy had the stem fitted in the negative, (down) position at the top of the steeer tube, so yes it would be down lower, though not really as low as you may think, unless it was also, (slammed) to the bottom of the steerer tube with all the spacers above it.

It is not compulsory to have the stem fitted in the negative position, it is your personal preference as to what is a comfortable riding position for you. As you will be having a bike fit it will be looked at as part of the process and change if deemed necessary.

    I have this bike.
Got it back in Oct and clocked about 1400 miles so far.
The saddle has stayed pretty white and the bar tape just looks a bit dirty - not too bad really.
    Great bike

White tape and saddle were the first things I ditched in my TCR. Not because of dirt but because I'm not keen on them in any way.
  • Here's my Giant Propel Advanced 0 outside a pub at Romsley, Worcs
This was the 3rd ride. It's a fabtastic ride and the Ui2 is everything I expected and hoped
I know the picture doesn't conform to the "rules" but it doesn't need to!

Really like the look of the propel. How is comfort and performance on it? Looking to possibly upgrade to a propel from my boardman team hybrid.
  • Its a lot more comfortable than I expected given the more "racy" geometry than my Scott CR1. Its certainly very compliant over all but the worse bumps and the steering is very confidence inspiring. Very pleased with it all round. 4th ride was 72 miles or so (longest for some time since I got knocked off last year) and there was no discomfort from the ride and position. Legs were worn out though!

  • It has had some upgrades since this was taken.

10 speed 105 has gone, and is now sporting some 11 speed Dura ace, also the wheels will be replaced shortly with some FF F4Rs

i'd guess frame warranty. considering its within the year, possibly due to paint issue.

unless it is a crash replacement :(

    wow, very good guess !

Is the pain an known issue. I have to say this is my first giant and their customer service is brilliant.

I prefer the blue too :)

no known issue, so dont worry. maybe should have said "a paint issue"

i just know that they are VERY good when it comes to warranty / frame replacement.

i prefer the matt finish to the gloss as well.

did they swap out the frame or give you another bike - just noticed the saddle matching still!
  • Perhaps, they were very good indeed bike was only a week old.

Love the Matte but still searching for effective cleaning / protection products if anyone can help.

Well not exactly mine but the same type as the one I once rode before in high school, it's called the model Speeder-x, released in the early 2000s, full-steel construction and super solid build and the shifters worked fantastic, has anyone here from non-Asia region heard of this model before??

Just received the bike back from the LBS with a warranty replacement frame from Giant (previous frame developed splits around where the seat post enters the frame). I didn't think I could like more than the previous White/Red frame, but am actually pretty chuffed and probably one of the few UK owners of a Germany 2016 Defy Advanced 1 frame.

I may eventually replace the saddle for plain black. However, having finally having found a saddle that fits after 3-years of searching and going through the whole Bontrager then Fizik ranges, I'm just happy to no longer have the warm comforting feeling of sitting on razor blades after a few hours riding (also helpful to have become a chamois cream convert in the process). Still on the heavy side, it will be mostly covered by my perfectly formed buttocks anyhow :)

    Just a quick update-

I was having some serious bottom bracket creaking issues- decided to get a bbinfinite bottom bracket with ceramic bearings... OMG what a difference! With the chain off, the crankset just goes round and round and round, and my creaking problem has disappeared!

    Check out this link: http://www.bbinfinite.com/pages/road

and this youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCnt19aDSJ8 (video is for pulleys, which I also have, but watch the crankset spin when he casually spins it at the beginning of the video!)
