Height is a problem, same with the defy, worse with the tcr.
Turning the bars looks better than a stem with a huge upward angle.
Back has a forward lean max point and this works well, little adjustments are not enough.
Sit on bike, bring bars up to me and clamp.
It leaves the bike basically with bar ends like a mtb.
Tcr needs a little more but this means i can have one.
  • Hey, just letting you know that I have my TCR up for sale.
I've posted it on the classified section.

Ah, so your from this bit of Hampshire too!
I think there are a few good climbs there, I prefer the descents though...

    I'm with you on that

  • My Giant Defy Advance 0 now with upgrades.

Upgrade bars and stem to Giant SLR carbon, wheelset to Zipp Course 30 shod in Schwalbe Pro One tubeless, Fizik Aliante R3 carbon saddle and Deda black carbon bartape. Raceware Di2 junction box holder added. Weight is 7.6kg from 8.2kg. Rides a dream.

    5l42rl.jpg

nice wheels, also planning to upgrade mine, do you mind if i ask where did you buy your wheelset and which measurement of front/rear axle i should choose?

    Front: 12x100mm & 15x100mm
    Rear: 12x135mm & 12x142mm

    http://www.zipp.com/wheels/30-course-disc-brake-tubular/

I got from Ubyk for £600. As said it's 5x100 front 5x135 rear. You get all these adapters in with the wheels.

Superb wheelset better than hand built sets I've had. Only trouble has been the tubeless tape on the rear. It's was split and been a pain in the backside tbh.

Worth £600 IMO. They are worth every penny and improved the bike in weight and ride. I'm running Schwalbe Pro Tubeless 25mm but may push up to a 28mm as the rims are so wide.

thanks! i've been shopping for carbon wheels too, just wondering if going to centrelock rather than 6-bolt would be compatible to defy or no difference at all? appreciate your advise. thank you
  • centerlock is much more convenient, and works (is no different) on the defy
  • Here is my Giant Defy Advanced 3. I've had it a week and a half, and so far cycled around 415km on it. What a machine!

Nice, like the colour scheme, have you slammed the stem already? Is that the new 4700 10sp Tiagra?
  • Yes, spec is Tiagra 4700. Compact chainset and 11-28 Cassette. Brakes are the cable actuated TRP Spyres with 160mm rotors.

I've slammed the stem as low as I can, but am going to have to source a lower conical spacer. The FSA headset incorporates the dust cap with the spacer which is 15mm thick so this will be replaced with a 5mm one to get the front to a reasonable height.

The Tiagra 4700 is really excellent. I really think that the shifting is on a par with the more expensive 11 speed groupsets but has the benefit that the replacement spares are cheaper. (this is important as I use the bike daily)

A couple of my propel, many crimes being committed with the saddle bag, pedal position, valve caps, background and not to mention water bottle

I have now opted for a sleeker bag that only contacts the stem bars itself.

    Nice bike

I was going to get a 2015, but by the time I'd decided to go for it there weren't any large ones left.

Thanks Dan, I had major issue getting one myself and infact got the last M/L in the country. I can manage the L but M/L works better for me apparently.

Had a 15.5hr round trip down to London to ensure no one else got it - that's how desperate I was for the colour scheme and so much so I turned down a Pro 0 with di2

At the time there was no confirmation on the colour scheme of the 2016 and I didn't want to chance it but I would have been happy with yours in the end. It's a very nice looking bike 8)

Yeah, I'm six one and a half, so just the wrong side of the crossover from M/L to L. I did try one for size before ordering this and it was pretty clear that I would be a bit cramped on the M/L.

Much like to you, the one I tried for size in store was an Advanced Pro 1 (I think), 2015 model reduced down to the same money as this, but I was put off by full carbon rims (wouldn't be able to get another set of wheels past the Mrs) and the fact that by buying this one that wasn't in the sale, I got nearly £450 worth of accessories thrown in. Just a shame that I ordered the day they were launched in August and didn't get it until the last week in October, perfect time of year to pick up a new bike!

Just out of interest Garmin are you using? Is it working OK with the RideSense?

I got my bike for £2k and a set of 105 pedals thrown in but with the 2016 price drop and another shop offering me 15% off the 2016 could have been a good buy....anyway I'm still happy to have a 2015.

It's a 510 I currently have although I've just ordered a 520-no issues with ride sense at all. What problems are you having?

The price drop for 2016 looked too good to be true, because it was. Well, it should've been. The saddle, brakes and hub internals are supposed to be different, but mine has happily arrived with the better brakes anyway, so I feel like I've had a little victory there!

I'm not having any problems, I don't have a Garmin yet, I'm hoping to get a 520 for Christmas, just wondered if the RideSense worked ok. Such a neat little unit to have, would've been a shame to have to use additional sensors.

My bike is currently without a front wheel. I noticed a very small crack where a spoke comes through the fairing so the shop are going to speak to Giant about it.

I never knew that, I didn't get on with the fizik and from what I read I thought the giant saddles would have been good. Pretty fly if there were lessening the components.

The only pain with the ride sense is having to unscrew to take the paper away to allow the battery to function.

It's for sure much better than the old Garmin connectors but you still have to add the magnet to the spoke where as the newer sensors it would go in the hub.

How do you like the bike ? Sat on one at the shop and I was considering to get one as a beater/second bike. Looks cool to me.

What was the reason you chose a 6700/6750 10sp crankset and does the rear mudguard work?

The 6700 crank came off another bike, so I didn't have to buy another one.
I have rotated the mudguard slightly clockwise, in fact as far as it will go, it protects your back, lights and seatpack, but doesn't do much for those behind you
