    BIGGEST JERK IN THE PELOTON

So when weighing all that up I thought I’d just hand the award to Alexey Tsatevich of Team Katusha, purely for the simple fact that he’s an absolute triple-X C-word. I’m not going to expand on that other than to say well done to Alexey for winning this — it’s the only thing he’s won all year.

    Not a fan then!

Presumably spilled Stokes' pint at some point in the season.

I suppose someone who regularly manages to stretch a single quote into 600 words of copy might be the sort to make his drink last the whole night.

At least he still remembers to put the odd line or two into the column to suggest that it is actually a pro cyclist writing. I'd have expected him to have forgotten to maintain the pretence by now.

A few actual pros are calling him out on his Tour of Oman-bad hotels theme. Apparently Oman is brilliant for hotels - the same 5* all week.

Apart some grudge against a non entity Russian, there's nothing here that hasn't already been said by us on this forum.

    Ha! Brilliant! The fraud.
  • On the Worlds:
TV coverage didn’t give viewers a good idea how difficult the cobbles and climbs were — the cobbles were pretty sharp and savage and the climb was up there with the Koppenberg.

These would be the cobbles that GVA said were like a town square and a climb that Wallys on his Sporza preview said wasn't hard?
But Spain, Belgium and Italy, as usual, don’t know how to unite and ride as one team.

Maybe I could give him Italy, who were anonymous but Belgium and Spain rode a great team race. Belgium especially. Has Stokes just given up even watching cycling now?

Yes the bit about the cobbles seemed odd and completely out of step with everything that had been reported about them.

as for having no idea how Belgium and Spain rode perhaps the Secret Pro is so sh1t he spent the whole race swinging off the back

they didn't win, they didn't even podium so really they didn't ride a great team race.

Belgium had a man in every move and 3 in the finale. How's that not a great team race?

Valverde was 5th, Gilbert 10th in the sprint after GVA just failed to get Sagans wheel.

I watched the whole race (yes really that sad) I have to agree with the Goat here both Belgium and Spain rode very well. I think if Boonen hadn't covered a couple of breaks he'd have been a contender

I watched 6 hours worth. I regret nothing.

So which uninformed tool is it?

The blog host seems to be keen to constantly defend that it is a legit pro.

Frankly someone who openly publishes articles calls a colleague/rival the c bomb anonymously is pretty pathetic.

I don't think it's Stokes, Stokes' ego is far to wrapped up in himself to write something and pretend it was annonymous

I think the possibility that it's actually a collection of guys a bit more plausible though

In the latest Cyling Podcast Friends special, David Millar called out the Secret Pro as a fraud and certainly not a pro cyclist. He also said that if they had any concrete info on anyone, they should 'man the f**k up' and inform the authorities, not spread gosssip anonymously.

He didnt sound too keen on him.

He's got his fans though. Anyone who suggests that its Stokes (or any other writer) in the comments gets slapped down.

I stopped reading his/her articles a while ago. Waste of time.

I get what you are saying but the whole aim of the worlds is to win and to have a team of as many hitters as Belgium had in their squad not to place anyone on the podium says to me they got their tactics wrong

A bit harsh - I'd say Belgium rode a great race and got their tactics bang on: it was GVA that cocked it up at the crux moment of the race finale. He'd done the hard bit cresting the cobbled climb only a few metres off of Sagan's wheel, then hesitated closing him down at the one point in the finale where Sagan wasn't full gas (OK - but he was in a fine tuck). Then he got caught up worrying about the rider on his wheel. He'll rue that moment for the rest of his life.

A 3 way sprint with Sagan, EBH and GVA would have been a fascinating contest after 6 hrs+ racing and would have guaranteed them each a medal...
  • GVA sat up rather than drag Boassen Hagen across too when it became clear he was just sitting on to protect Kristoff.

That he could do that with a team mate behind and one who only lost out to bad luck on the last climb tells you how well Belgium played it

Yup, I was on the train and got a few odd looks as I was giggling.

If Richard is mooching around the other threads while he's here i'd like to say job well done, particularly on that interview but also on the podcast in general. One of the best ways of following cycling in the english language in my opinion

It's so blindingly obviously Shane Stokes. That piece is every hobby horse he's ever ridden! Remember when that column used to contain actual insight?

they only ban things that actually improve performance

That's balls, isn't it? Pretty sure I've read that something being taken for performance enhancing reasons is enough to be considered regardless of evidence as to its efficacy.

I doubt it's Stokes (too rabidly pro Aussie). But it's clearly not a pro. It reads like a collection of social media rants.
