Wore the pink jersey after a night time prologue that finished on a carpet in 2005 n'all. Riding for, I think, CCC Polsat
My mistake, it was Ceramica who had exactly the same kit. That prologue was 1.15km long too. Outstanding stuff."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Unless the SP is throwing some complete red herrings...
and assuming it is an actual rider (and one only) and that he's an English speaker (and possibly / probably Australian)...
There's only one rider from the Giro who fits the above and is old enough to have ridden with Wiggins as a junior. He took a walloping pretty much every single day as well - except for the TTT stage 1.
Step forward Brett Lancaster (who has been touted before for this I think).
On a quick look he talks about 3 races that he did. (there are probably others)
2015 Giro
2013 Tour Down Under
2013 Tour of Beijing.
Only 2 English natives did those 3 races. Durbridge and Hansen. Not English speaking, but good enough speaker I think. Eisel was also at all 3 races.
I've re-read what he wrote about the 3013 TDU - it could be seen as being cleverly written so as to not actually state 'I rode the 2013 TDU' - he talks about it being more like training for a lot of guys etc. - He could well have been about riding with the team before and after the race but not actually riding it.
Also the guy writing it now (again assuming it has always been a single pro rider at the time) may be a different one to 2 yrs ago.0 -
Classic Stokes here... spreading out a short chat with Taylor Phinney over 2 weeks worth of features AND managing to repeat himself.

Sorry to drag this up but I just asked Shane Stokes on twitter and he is adamant it isn't him. He says that he doesn't even know who it is but it is definitely a real pro. The motors in bikes excepted I don't think there were any outlandish posts from the secret pro (and Astana aren't exactly squeaky clean)0

He's hardly going to admit it if it is him...0 -

And he did the same Taylor Phinney article but written in France the other day"In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

It's the ultimate hipster coverage: phony Taylor Phinney is worth more attention than the Tour circus.
Must have taken serious potions for Snape to pop the Phinney question in the middle of the press scrum.

I realise that but, at the same time, people still ask cyclists if they dope. I doubt it's him0 -
Latest version. Very much doubt it is a pro...

That Secret Pro article could have been written by anyone on this forum. But if it had it would have been more incisive.0

My Mum could have written the current one. Woeful.Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0

Usually they at least have something by way of anecdote, but that was just an op ed."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Thing is, if you were an editor, why would you pass that as fit to publish? It's no better than a blog. Unless of course the editor, who is a journalist of no great renown with a reputation for lazy, insight free rambles, wrote it himself."In many ways, my story was that of a raging, Christ-like figure who hauled himself off the cross, looked up at the Romans with blood in his eyes and said 'My turn, sock cookers'"

Back when TSP was on more imaginative form:`A cynic', wrote Sydney Harris, `is not merely one who reads bitter lessons from the past, he is one who is prematurely disappointed in the future.' And, on the basis of this year's Tour de France, also one who is resolutely disconcerted with the present.
...urine of the Tour de France yellow jersey holder, the press agencies hurriedly released their scoops and our broadcasters diligently relayed the message.
The moment illustrated everything that has been wrong with the reporting on this year's Tour. Forget the competition, trawl instead for the scandals and anything which vaguely suggests drug use. Race? What race? Let's get some real hard-hitting stories.
At the time of the supposed scoop, other details were in the domain of the media but conveniently played down.

That is a thing of rare beauty.
No surprise we can't definitively prove Stokes is the author of The Secret Pro when he's clearly had his fingerprints burnt off.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
