My Dad was given the all clear of prostate cancer just before Christmas :)

I would be delighted if this was the charity of choice.

You could as I think for this ride I'd go with the Trek Sl that I had up in Glentress. The carbine is abit much of a bike for this ride where its mileage that counts.

Put me down for a maybe, I'll do a couple of long rides one weekend im not working and see whether I think it's doable.

My heart says hell yeah, the brain says fuck no are you crazy?

As I've got ample time to think about it.

What kind of terrain are we looking at. If it's more road like the last time then I'll most likely source a road bike but even still a hardtail or something lighter than the current build.

I also have to be realistic, in what I'll be able to do by then. I wasn't exactly prepared the last time. Going on a 3 day drinking party the week before wasn't the best idea...

Yep, great choice, and if you decide to split it and support more than one charity, have a think about MacMillan as well - lost my dad to cancer 2 years ago and the support he and mum got before (and mum got afterwards) was brilliant.

About 9000m of climbing in total and from the looks of it, and a metric f**k-ton of off-road riding. Some of it, quite proper!

Unfortunately a 600 mile round trip and a daughters birthday means I cant

That and the fact there's no decent hills where I live do although I can ride 120 miles a day on our flat as flanders roads it looks like it would kill me

I'll still sponsor the poor souls that decide to have trememdous amounts of fun doing it. Not that I'm jealous or anything.

Having looked more in detail at the route, count me in for sure :D Great choice of charity too, lets hope we can raise as much as possible for a great cause! :D

(plus I'm thinking if I can do this, then maybe, just maybe, I'll be fit enough for the Mega in 2014!)

Highly unlikely I'll be able to do it as I'll be very busy with events over the summer which'll cut into training time...

I like the idea of a few training rides, an early one is a good idea so people can gauge how much training they'll need to do.

Regarding charity, I have no preference to any one over another.

Genuinely excited about this, I'm just about to make sure I'm ok for the time off work and I should have some news from the doc tomorrow.
  • Is the date pretty much set/confirmed then?

If so, I'll get it agreed with my manager today.

Yep dates are set i had the go ahead from work last week too. That and the charity are agreed so if we say definite decisions on participation by the end of May so we can sort accommodation and how much support vehicle we need. If anyone wants to be involved in that capacity feel free to get in touch and offer.

Myself and Clank are comparing routes so hopefully ill be able to post a detailed synopsis soon with ideas of where to stay and lengths of days and start/finish points for any one day companions.

Been looking at some small diversions that take in sections of trail centres too for added fun. In some cases they are also a slight shortcut.

On a similar note.....his many of the interested party own full map garmins or similar?

I don't own one but I'm sure I could borrow one for a week.
  • Cool... I've requested that week off work and had it confirmed.

    No garmin currently..
