Just hanging around waiting to be used!
Managed to get out on my Vulcan 'Tard' mid-week and it was pleasant enough on the road with the front shocks locked out. A few roadies did come rattling past me but I was having fun!! I managed to pick up a set of road SPDs for £10 off EvilBay and also found a back light in the odds and ends box so for now that's it for the Vulcans latest evolution.....

Is it shy, lol?0

Spec wise nothing too great, but I am a student after all.
Had it from new when I was 16 as a Christmas present, when I took my cycle computer off it last year it had done about 5000 miles. So probably a tad more now.
Air Shock with rebound and lock out - Manitou Minute Expert, was the 2012 model so was clearance earlier this year (great fork).
Bar - Cannondale C2 (second hand)
Shiters - Original SRAM (one of the barrel adjusters is held together with super glue and string. Its bombproof, but still)
Stem - Funn something.
Brakes - Avid Elixir CR (Second Hand)
Rotors - Original Tektro (Oh yeah, should replace these really)
Pedals - Cheap unbranded type with replaceable grub screws for grip, work great though.
Running gear all original just replaced with new stuff as they wear out.
Seat - Original Carrera.
Tyres - Mountain KIng 2.4 (Revamped version on the back, Old version on the front)0 -

Blimey. That's more than my latest motorbike's done in the 2 1/2 years I've had it, lol. You must be knackered by now, with enormous legs.0 -
Well I've just been given a pretty decent (but old and heavy) racing bike that I'm turning into a commuter/lock up and don't mind if it gets nicked, type bike.
So hopefully I'll stop going through chains so often and can further gear the Vulcan towards mountain biking.0 -

Hi all! new here/new to mountain biking, been reading the thread over the last couple of days because ive just bought this!
believe its the 04 model, £70 evilbay jobby and just needs some tlc. The saddle isnt original but that will be changed anyway, otherwise I believe its all standard. A good starting place for someone on an incredibly tight budget i think! anyway thought id say hi and throw my project into the mix.0 -
Looks very clean for it's age!

Put that in workshop and tech....read parktools on indexing and start from the beginning.
As for the Fury, good luck with the sale, but I don't think you have a hop in hells chance to be honest, it's still a Fury to most people, you'd be better off splitting it and selling it in pieces.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Can't imagine anyone paying £900 for a second hand Carrera, regardless of what components are on it.0

Was just thinking that! Each to their own though!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Going through the tlc on the old kraken a few posts above I came to realise where I wanted it, it was going to cost alot. So did my mum and stepdad apparently as they surprised me with this yesterday! so im a proud owner of a nice new Vengeance
As for the old kraken a few posts up, that is obviously going back on evilbay for sale. However, unlike when I got it, it now actually works! the front gears have been adjusted and so you dont need two hands to shift to third and the rear gears got a new cable as the old one seized. So least it leaves me in better running order that it started.0 -
Very nice mate!0

This thread excites me
I have in the last week just picked up my first 'proper' bike (compared to the cheap things I used to ride when I was a bike). It was sold to me as a Carrera Vengeance LTD Disc Spec, but, looking at the frame I don't think it is a Vengeance at all. If anyone could help me identify it that would be great, tried looking at one of the sites to identify a bike as listed earlier in this thread but can't find it.
Anyway, couple of pics:
My favourite picture that I took while out on ride with a friend and his Banshee:
I don't know much about my bike, all I do know about the spec is:
Forks: Rock Shox Dart 1, I understand these are rubbish so if anyone can recommend better then I am all ears!
Tyres: Front; Continental Speed King, Rear; Kenda
Wheels: Standard 26"
Brakes: 160mm rotors Tektro hydraulic front and rear calipers
Standard seatpost
More comfy seat (couldn't live with standard Carrera seat)
Black and lime green grips, lime green matches the Carrera decal colour.
Standard 24 speed
Feedback appreciated.0 -
Looks like a vengeance to me....circa 2009
The Dart1 is undamped and rather nasty (you wouldn't drive a car with no shock absorbers!), as an ungrade you want anything damped, so even a Suntour XCM (damped, they aren't all damped) would be better, but the XCR is better all round, after that you have Rockshox recon or Suntour Raidon and on upwards.
Whatever you have will be lighter than a Banshee!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Hey guys, got myself a Vulcan a couple of weeks ago;
£300 bargain from local Halfords, already done a tour around the Forest of Dean. Here's the cockpit after a few adjustments (handlebar was off-centre by about an inch after it was set up by the store mechanic);
Couldn't resist the chain reaction sale; got myself a Funn handlebar and a longer (110mm) FSA stem, both very cheap. Here's what it looks like now;
It feels much more comfortable, and it's definitely easier to get up hills. Less twitchy and I don't feel like I'm about to tip over backwards! The bar is quite a bit wider than the stock one so it's still pretty nimble even with the longer stem. Also shaved about 110g off the weight - not a lot, but it's a start!
Now waiting on an additional 10mm headset spacer and some lime-green lock on grips
Tyres and forks are planned upgrades, but I don't have the cash to do that just yet.
A few people have commented on the brakes on this bike (Clarks Skeletal) saying they're terrible. They're pretty good on mine, I guess they're just very variable/not all that reliable?0 -

The only time a mechanic's ever been in Halfords would be as a customer.0 -

I bought the same bike back in October and i put some new tyres on, superstar green grips & green (longer) stem, white superstar handlebars. Pedals are the next purchase for me. Not bothered about changing the forks as they work at present and until they die (or i buy a new bike) they're not too bad
It's a great little bike. I think I paid £330 for it. Only problem i have is the rear brake has developed a small leak from the reservoir when you pull the lever.gochel chan ddynion i mewn blew beisiau achos hwy cadernid bod eirth0 -
New grips arrived today... had to cut the nasty rubber ones off as they seemed to have bonded themselves to the nice glossy finish on my new bars >.<
Should have left it without grips until they arrived tbh, would have saved a lot of time.

Looks like the Size Zeros? I've jut put a pair of those on my Boardman in the same green/black colour combo - grippy and comfortable. Gonna get a pair for my Kraken too, the Giant Sole-Os on that are falling apart after just a few rides.0

You may want to drop the brake levers so they are inline with your arms!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Good point! Can you tell I'm a roadie? :PKowalski675 wrote:Looks like the Size Zeros?
Nope, cheapo Brand X from CRC. They look very similar though, I suspect all the brands with grips of that design buy them from one OEM. There are quite a few that look almost identical, especially the colours available.0
