That'll depend on year and what you actually include!

But nude is not going to be much less than 2kg if at all.

The stock DDM on the later Carrera's come in at about 2075g the pair, they are Formula wheels and appear on upto midrange Boardmans and Voodoo's as well (with various different stickers on, including 'Alex' on the rim)
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Bring on the Carerra's :D I have a 2012 Vengeance myself. However it is currently sitting in the kitchen stripped, the delivery guy shoulda been here an hour ago with the Rock Shox Recon Golds!!!!!, can't wait.

I really like the frames tbh, it is the first bike I have had since my last one was stolen (Saracan Hazzard lol).

I think this is the last investment I will put into it, already got Avid Exiler 1 brakes, and rear cassette and front chainset has been replaced with an FSB varient. Once I fall off it and snap something, I will get a different frame and transfer over my aftermarket parts.

Ordered some Reba RL's for my Vulcan. Aside from being a much better fork bounce-wise, it's going to shave 1.2kg off the weight of the bike. Little bit excited. Pictures will follow, in time.

    Hello Carrera folks!

The rigid fork & commuting clobber has gone - it's back to its roots as an XC machine :D

    Specs and so forth:

    Frame, Kraken 'XC spec' (2009?)
    Fork, Suntour Epicon X1 lite RL-R 100mm
Wheelset, WTB Laserdisc XC rims built with ACI DB spokes on Laserdisc Lite hubs
Tyres, ITS System 5 in narrow 2.0
Drivetrain, SRAM Stylo cranks, FSA chainrings, KMC Z9 chain, SRAM PG990 block
Shifting, NOS 2005 XT shifters, XT front mech, deore shadow rear mech
Stopping, Avid - Code (old, juicy style) levers, Elixir 3 & 5 callipers, 160mm discs
Finishing kit; some mahoosive FSA DH riser bars which I will swap for some slightly smaller flatter XC bars, a 70mm stem from a Taiwanese Ebay shop, Ritchey Comp seatpost (which has a utterly useless clamp which never stays put - its for the chop), flyweight Felt road saddle (surprisingly comfy), Bikehut lock on grips, Ritchey WCS headset

The Suntour Epicon is pretty damn impressive for £150 - 1.6kg, good damper, remote lockout. Only been out on it a couple of times so far, but it compares very well to my '08 RS Recon Race (air sprung, motion control damper, lockout).

    Forks!

    Messenger_5773839260788873497_13765905525939569.jpg?psid=1

Installing took a while, following instructions to the letter to avoid any mistakes... still made a few >.<

Had to cut the steerer twice, as I reassembled the headset incorrectly the first time (when I measured the tube for cutting) and therefore cut it too long by 3-4mm. Real pain to cut such a small amount off the end of a tube!

All sorted in the end though, but I suspect I'll be looking to upgrade the headset at some point in the future, it's not exactly the smoothest. I'd have replaced it already except it looks like a bit of a job to do.

    IMG-20130813-WA0000.jpg?psid=1

No idea why that photo is rotated, can't figure out how to turn it around as it's the right way up everywhere but here... :/

Anyway, in terms of ride quality, there's a huge difference now. The whole bike is noticably lighter, the front end is considerably more agile. The fork itself is roughly a bazillion times better than the XCM, in that it actually works properly! Very glad I made the switch, can't wait to try it out on a proper trail, only been out near my house so far.

How much and where from? Looking at some 120mm Rebas for mine. As I'm tidying it up a bit.

Not as much of a pain as if you'd cut it too short, lol. Remember the golden rule - measure twice, cut once...

Yep, got mine from Merlin http://www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/frame-forks/forks-shocks/rockshox-suspension-forks/rockshox-reba-rl-forks-2013.html

About £255 after cashback through Quidco.

Valid point, though I could have just taken a spacer off as I'm only using one under the stem! I measured very carefully, honest... I just totally failed at reassembling the headset and put part of it upside down. Yeah, I'm new at this...

Just realised I'm totally flouting the rule on one post per bike, does that still apply?

So, shiny headset spacers installed. That plastic top cap really has to go!

    IMG-20130820-WA0005.jpg?psid=1

I'm also beginning to re-think the long stem, but there don't seem to be many options for an old school narrow diameter handlebar, and I like them the way they are.

    Oh well, on to the next upgrade;

    IMG-20130820-WA0003.jpg?psid=1

£15 each from Merlin. I can't believe how much of a difference they've made to the bike. 1kg of weight loss, drastically improved accelaration, much quicker generally across the hard stuff, better behaved through the soft stuff.

The cheap CST tyres tended to pick up as much mud as they could find and then do an excellent impression of a slick tyre... not useful. The Ralphs are just in and out of the muddy bits with minimal fuss.

Total bike weight is now around 12.4kg, down from 14.7kg as stock. It's a very different bike to ride now, and it's only cost a total of about £550 (pending the sale of the stock forks).

    Thoughts? Suggestions for further weight-saving?

I've been trying to set up my fork as per the guide in WMB, but that's another story for another day!

Nice tyres, less good when it gets gloopy though!

    Further weight savings
Stem - the FSA are heavy, the generic forged are much lighter (on-one, superstar and bikehut all sell it)
Bars - Not sure what you have
Rookie ring - behind the cassette, free weight saving
Clutter - bottle cage, crudcatchers, saddle pack and pump probably weigh more than you've saved
Crankset - Deore HT2 will save you about 250g
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    check out http://www.carboncycles.cc/

they do some nice lightweight scandium bars in 25.4 size

    Thanks for the suggestions!

The combined stem + bar weight is only 448g, which is pretty light already. I'm very happy with the bars, it's just the length of the stem that's a bit off. I'll probably lump it until christmas and buy myself a 31.8mm combo from Superstar or something, which will barely save any weight, but it'll be the perfect size and look awesome ^^

The combined weight of the accessories is about 360g, the pump has already been removed. I can't stand having a backpack so they're fairly essential. I've taken 2.4kg off the weight of the bike so far so they're not eating into that too much.

Thanks for the carbon cycles link, I'll have a good browse. They do seem to have some reasonably prices old-size stems in the right size and weight... but they're black only. Boooring. :(

My Kraken's been feeling decidedly neglected since I bought my Boardman, so I got it down and gave it a good wash this evening.

I wouldn't say that's light at all .... my bar/stem combo weigh less than half that without spending silly money. Picked up my carbon bars for just over £40!

Oh right, okay. Which are they and where from? If I can save that much more weight I'll consider upgrading the bars too! That'll make it easier as I can get oversize bars and open up a whole world of stem choices...

Ah, found them, cheers. Blimey they are light... 125g! 610mm is quite narrow for me though, I'm using 710mm at the moment. Not a bad price though for something so light, would take 173g off my bike. I expect they're also very stiff compared to the narrow alloy tubes I currently have.

I find the width all right, I went from 680mm bars to them as I found I was clipping too many trees. They're not just as confidence inspiring on techy 'downhill' trails but I've got used to them.

My Synchros are a little heavier, 135g, 620mm and were £14.27 off ebay.

Th generic forged stem as sold by On-one, Superstar, Bikehut (discontinued) and others is a good option, around 122-128g for 80mm and typically about £15-20, around £6-10 used.

So my stem and bar combo cost me £24.27 for 257g.
