The Rookie wrote:My Synchros are a little heavier, 135g, 620mm and were £14.27 off ebay.
Th generic forged stem as sold by On-one, Superstar, Bikehut (discontinued) and others is a good option, around 122-128g for 80mm and typically about £15-20, around £6-10 used.
So my stem and bar combo cost me £24.27 for 257g.
£22.98 for my combination, which is 191g heavier but the bar is quite a bit wider. I've been looking at carbon bars on eBay but very dubious as most have at least a few scratches on them.0 -
Decided to treat myself again ..... 'accidentally sold' my current forks for £140, and just bought this:
I'm sad to say my build probably won't be a carrera for much longer! I'm gonna miss flying past people on 2 grand bikes on a halfords bike!0 -

Planning a frame swap then?0 -

Heres my 2013 Kraken. Only changed pedals (Moove), Handle bars and stem (Truvativ Hussefelt in white. not in picture) and grips (Moove lock on wave). Im wondering if its worth upgrading the forks or wait until I kill them?0

I don't know how good the XCR's are as a suspension fork but weight wise they're not too bad. You'd only stand to gain (or... lose) about 700g at most from the upgrade depending on what you replaced them with, assuming you wouldn't be looking at uber-expensive options.
A Reba/SID etc will still make a big difference, in terms of both performance and weight, but it's not going to be so drastic as the 1.2kg+ difference with the cheaper XCM model on my Vulcan.
So, depends how the fork performs and if the current weight bothers you?
Here's me trying to sound like an expert when I'm barely into a double figure post-count :P0 -
The XCR isn't a bad fork, as has been said, fairly light but a basic damper.
Not sure I'd hav put Husslefelt on an XC bike!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Purely for aesthetic reasons! It's was white and half price..being a noob I'm quite enjoying the learning process. I'm actually preferring the wider bar after a ride out yesterday.0

Couldn't resist posting this ..... look here for a nice update!!0

Went to the Forest of Dean on Wednesday, and I can confirm that my Vulcan is at least 100% more awesome following the upgrades. It feels like a different bike. I suppose it should, given that I've spent the same on upgrading it as I did on the bike in the first place.
My shin is the worse for wear after slipping off the pedal on one side while in the air. Not a big jump (we're talking inches) but I'm still lucky I didn't completely fluff the landing with only one leg to stand on (literally) and do myself an injury.
So, proper flats (Superstar?) and grippy shoes (Five Ten?) or SPDs (M520?) and appropriate shoes? The SPD option is cheaper, and I've been riding clipless on the road for ages, and they'd be nice for the climbs, but flat pedals look awesome, as do the shoes. Dilemma!
Definitely could use a shorter stem, but it's not as urgent as I expected. For belting down Verderer's, it's actually pretty awesome, because it's so stable at high speeds.0 -
Hi there, quick question. Just swapped my Vulcan frame for a Banshee, despite this being a Hardtail thread do you mind if I post it here when its ready?0

Think we're going again on wednesday... got m520's and shoes arriving tomorrow! Gives me a couple of days to practice not falling off on trails before hitting the forest.0 -
Has anyone replaced their BB on a 2010 vulcan, One thats in is a 68 116 which I can't really find a replacement ?0

JUst get the nearest, a half or whole mm or two won't hurt, so 115 or 188.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

Will do if Halfords can't get one then.0
-

Just done some adding up of expenditure and money made from selling stock components... my Vulcan has cost me a grand total of £531.23
Current weight is 12.2kg (plus accessories)
Next upgrade: brakes. The stock ones have given me the gift of a fractured rib.0 -
first post on here, i just picked up my shiny new Fury, already looking at a few bits to lessen the weight a tad! i need to do something about the gearing as i spend quite a bit of time in top when i'm on decent tracks or tarmac... advise on 2013 bike upgrades greatfully recieved0
-
Best thing to do with the gearing is to learn to pedal at the cadance, I doubt your topping 40mph!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

teaching old legs like mine a new beat? (cadance) i don't know if thats possible, they're stuborn/slow old things at the best of times!!0
-
How old? I'm 47 and have learnt to spin at circa 90-100rpm (started back at 44), it makes the ride far less tiring!
To up the gearing you need new chainrings at least plus a new front mech and a longer chain (so that's conservatively going to cost you £50), you'll reduce ground clearamnce offroad as well. I ride 1x9 with just a 32T chainring up front and get on just fine, I can just about hit 30mph still pedaling which is plenty fast enough most the time, on and offroad!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
just hitting 40 in a few weeks, i can only try0
