Been watching this thread over the past couple of days and haven't got much to say other than get well soon, and good luck with the recovery. Your attitude is an inspiration.

Do you have any memory of what actually happened, or were there any witnesses?

Maybe you don't want to talk about, I understand if you don't.

  • been off the air for a few days 'cos got shoved down to a general ward for 2 days - absolute nightmare, no idea how to deal with a spinal patient and so noisy i couldn't sleep even with noise cancelling headphones. now back in major trauma but taken 2 days to recover enough energy to post.

sorry, no pics of physios... but trust me, you would :)

very little memory tbh, and what little i know of witness reports is conflicting. came over crest of hill, didn't realise how wide parked lorry was till to late to avoid. i think because only left half of lorry was reflecting, other half dirty? there may or may not have been a car overtaking at the time, my memory is variable on this as are witness reports. cctv wasn't much help apparently, assuming they were looking at the right time, the comment to my daughter being "we can see the lorry but not your father on his bike" despite the hi-viz, lights, etc.

Any news on how long it will be before you can expect to go home?

It's partly why I'm so passionate about supporting Teenage Cancer Trust. When my son had is big op, it was in a fully adult hospital - the way he was treated was very poor. At other times he was on the children's cancer ward for his 4 days of chemo - he was visibly worse after those sessions. TCT provide dedicated teenage wards which make a massive difference - staffed with nurses who both understand the treatment but also understand teenagers. I can fully appreciate why you would not do so well in the "wrong" sort of ward.

What made me particularly angry though was the way that they would move patients around to increase ward occupancy figures. I had a big "discussion" with the head of the hospital (non-clinical guy) who said something very telling: "Ideally the teenage cancer ward would be full"! I did point out that then there'd be lots of teenagers with cancer and that ideally it would be empty!

Sheesh, that's pretty breath-taking. A not-so-nice illustration of someone losing sight of the fundamental goal of medicine.

Still waiting for pics on this thread. Not you, OB, but you know who. If Chelsea can do it then so can the hospital:

If she was treating me, it would have to be as dressed in the left hand picture. You see I suffer from anorak-no-phobia.

Keep up the good work OB

FWIW, I'm particularly keen for the good days to increase in number and quantity, to the point where a pint becomes an option.

    My shout.
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?
