Totally shocked to read this and really impressed that your post still lives up to your username despite the enormity of the news! Thank you for even thinking to let us know when there are much bigger things on your mind!

Will keep my fingers crossed that you make the best recovery possible... x (as a girl, I'm sure I'm allowed to sign off like that)

  • Thanks all for your kind thoughts. its going to be a long slow tiring process and hospital rhythms are very different to the outside world... very much a case of wait... and wait.

i'm typing this in my wheelchair, its hard to get online more than once a day tho i now have a hand splint that makes using the tablet easier. each day will bring small improvements but i know there will be bad ones too. its the nights i'm struggling with at the mo, they seem to go on forever.

    once again, thanks

Try listening to the radio. I've always found listening to something I'm only vaugely interested in to be quite soothing.

Dotun Adebayo and co. broadcast to about the same 10 people every night and it can be quite soporific (in a good way).

There's also podcasts. Send someone home with an ipod and get them to download some stuff for you. There are tons from the Guardian, radio 4, Up All Night, etc.. There's a risk you may become a trivia bore, but it might help you through.

+1 to this, I often listen to R5 overnight or the BBC world service which although it can get repetitive it is relaxing, I find myself drifting in and out of sleep this way. If you haven't already got one a dab radio is great for choice if not for quality. Really glad you've posted again and although I can't begin to imagine what your experiencing please take some small comfort in having the support and best wishes of your fellow BR's

OB, I am lost for words, genuinely upset and gutted for you. I hope you get all the support you need and you get back to some kind of normality soon.
  • My First post- sorry to hear of your bad luck. +1 to the comments already made. I wish you well for your rehab and recovery...
  • +1 everyone above. I am really sorry to hear about your accident.

I can also recommend radio in helping to get through the night, I would recommend tune in radio available at the App Store has all the radio stations you could possibly want.

I have that, great app, but you do need wi-fi, or a stonking data package + good 3G signal.

  • hi all,

just read an email from Condor saying many of you had tried to get in touch via them. i'm deeply touched that you went to that trouble.

it will be many many months from now but i'm already thinking hand-cranked semi-recumbent trike!

Brilliant... just think about all the SCR scalps you'll get

Glad that the positive thoughts are there - stay strong.

I've only scanned the recent bits of the thread so sorry if someone's mentioned it already, but audio books were a godsend when I was stuck in the big white building for a while...

    Carbon with Super Record?!

Yeah, sleepless nights are grim. I've had a few of those but generally known that the following night would be OK. Radio and reading always helps me.
