  • Well today's good news is the neck brace came off, so my neck is officially 'stable'. Posture in wheelchair is crap tho so need to work on it, neck muscles are stiff from lack of movement. Also means the physioterrorists can get more aggressive

    the physioterrorists

    :) That made me chuckle.

If you don't me asking, what sort of exercises will they put you through to improve your posture in the 'chair?

Happy New Year, OB. All the best to you and your family for 2013.

Reading your news really helps put things in perspective, OB. And your resolve and attitude are great. Best wishes for the challenges of the upcoming year. Glad you lost the neck brace, never a good look are they?

  • everything is slow steps, got 7kg odd upper body muscle to rebuild.

my physio consists mainly of sitting on a raised plinth and doing various forms of balancing upper body and 'catching' myself when i fall by rapidly moving arms and what passes for hands to a suitable position. on the bed. Also when sitting with legs on bed in front of me,move legs to side of bed. so far i can nudge my right leg 1" - legs are heavy lumps! Finally getting from sitting to lying and back - the former is an ungainly semi-controlled fall, the latter impossible at the mo.

Huge amount to do, OB - it's great to see you making progress. After my son's operation, he needed a massive amount of physio to teach him to walk again and the nerve regeneration still (2years later) a long way to go as he still can't lift his foot but there is now at least signs of his muscle fibres firing. Each small improvement is amazing though

My consultant told me that after 2y there was unlikely to be any further improvement yet I've read elsewhere of people getting significant change much later - which just proves that where nerves/spine/brain are concerned no one really knows. Anyway, hope he continues to improve.

In other news, I've been given a power wheelchair to save my left shoulder which is very sore.
