The smell of Sellotape when wrapping presents.
I remember that 1st day of school smell. It must have been derived from the Polyester in new school uniforms but when I sometimes get a whiff of it, it reminds me of those days.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

I'm just hanging around the school for a sniff."
You'd be fine, I'm sure.0 -
I have virtually no sense of smell, due to nasal polyps and the operations to remove them.
But sometimes, I get the brief whiff of something, anything really and it cheers me up a little bit.
It does mean that I can't tell if my farts smell or not.
Mind you, I have a wife that does that for me.0 -

But...the school glue in the sticky bottles (Gloy?) was, and smelt, ace. It would get in your hair and everything. Happy days.
The most evocative sense is smell, and boot polish takes me right back to the days when I joined the army as a lad. The sense is really strong, like you're right back there.Ecrasez l’infame0 -

Gloy - wasn't that a form of PVA? I remember putting a light layer on our hands, letting it dry and spooking the girls by showing them your skin peeling off.
Yes, smells. There are certain hospital smells that take me back and my head will start spinning.

This has cheered me up lately: pork pies. The really big ones, about the size of your head. With lots of mustard and washed down with Banks' mild ale. That's what I'm having for breakfast while trying to clear up from last night. Could be a very slow day.Ecrasez l’infame0 -
