After checking online, I was wrong with my Venus hunch. It was actually Jupiter.

I'm 'relying' on the -skymap- app on my phone; and it's saying it's Venus? #WhatDoIKnow?

Jupiter is currently quite high in the East, while Venus is close to the Southern horizon.

High is where I saw Jupiter. It was above Orion.

Jupiter dead centre. Street lights just out of shot at the bottom. Orion is not quite visible (you can just see the belt bottom centre), but Taurus is pretty clear as are the Pleiades

I think that this might count, as one million is quite a big number. I suspect I'm getting rather more views than all the local tourism offices put together.

Are you on OnlyFans then? 😉

Looking up at the stars you've got to wonder at the magnitude of the Universe. There was a great setting of the cresent moon tonight, it was a real orange/red. Mars was easy to pick out too, being noticeable more orange than the stars.
How the hell did it all kick off?

It suffered from high inflation.

Mars is also very visible at the moment and easy to identify due to its colour. There’s going to be an alignment with 6 planets visible in a couple of weeks and I think I read it will be 7 in February. I got a telescope for Christmas so need to learn how to use it. I also got a couple of books on space but I don’t think I’ll ever understand much, it’s such a big thing that even when people say how Brian Cox simplifies things all I see is someone saying stuff I can’t follow in a very enthusiastic way.

Interesting. Yes I Identified Mars OK.
Will you mount your camera to the telescope?

Probably just my phone for now as it came with a mount for that.

New passport delivered 6 days after application. Impressive.

It's a pretty slick process these days especially as you can just do the photo at home.

Yeah like mine. Seems to be pretty standard now, and with reassuring comms too.

New bike day. Nothing fancy, but the Lapierre seemed to be good VFM and passable looks too (including very tidy aluminium welds - some of the marques I saw looked like they'd been done by a spotty apprentice on their first day). Local shop, so if there are any problems, it'll be easy to get them sorted out.

Is it the blue one with white handlebars and stabilisers. Looks nice.😉

Nice one Brian, replacement or addition?

Addition. Haven't had a new bike for ten years, and I realised I was missing out a lot by not being able to do all the forest and other old tracks that link up through the mountains. About £1100 for a good bit of winter entertainment when the weather's not so special and plodding along damp roads feels a bit of a chore. Give the forecast this coming week, it looks like it was a good time to 'invest'. Lapierres seem to be reasonably well thought of, and most the bits on this bike are standard Shimano, so maintenance should be easy enough.

Nice. Welcome to the graveller world. Enjoy.

I've just never enjoyed the MTB feeling, and it's a PITA bouncing along if you want to go any reasonable distance on the road. And the serious MTB/VTT trails here can be truly shit scary, so the halfway house of something that can do sensible tracks and roads too seems to be the way to go. First tentative go tomorrow, on tracks that would be boring to walk but join up usefully to make a short off-road circuit. I've another week here to try out a few different trails.
For the first few years here I had a target of 400 (road) miles a week, but with slightly odd health stuff going on, I've completely junked that target as being counter-productive, which was part of the reasoning too about getting my head away from targets, other than to enjoy riding when I feel like it.
