Experiencing that not all car drivers are out to kill us.

Wedding anniversary today, missus and I went for a decent bike ride in a weather window between rains. She dropped off the tarmac into a muddy rut at road's edge, front wheel went, down with a banged knee. Car driver behind saw it happen, got out to check state, and waited for a while to see if missus would stop rolling about and wailing or would take her to hospital.

Much appreciated the help and concern. Missus did manage to wince her way back home on the bike and is now RICEing the knee. Interesting anniversary present.

Watching the Last Night of the Proms. That night at the end of summer when there's lots of flag waving and patriotic singing. I've watched it for many years but am very amused/bemused by the proliferation of EU flags at this year's event. I actually don't recall ever seeing an EU flag there before.

With the added bonus that Farage was really cross about those flags :D
Hadn't seen this until now, that cheered me up too. :D

Stopping the car to help cyclists who look like they have had mechanical problems. We live along a popular section of LeJoG routes and I often see people apparently swearing at their bikes at the side of the road. The relief on one guy's face the other day when I offered him the track pump rather than his little telescopic pump was good, that and giving directions to people who are clearly at the end of a very long day. Cycling related good deeds make me feel good

Are you hoping for many more wedding anniversaries because clearly you seem at one with your missus. In that her pain is your pain.

Following a VW Polo with a full size, full width roof box on it, one the size you would normally see on a Range Rover or the like. Box looked bigger than the car. Made me smile anyway.
  • Washing my hands and face in cold water. I do this all year round, but it is somehow more satisfying the colder the weather.

I always finish a shave by washing my face in really hot water then immediately with freezing cold - allegedly it helps the skin snap back into shape.

It's part of my daily skincare routine and how I maintain my boyish good looks so I look great in the video when Da'esh bump me off.

Was it the video of the 13year old girl? Saw a lovely clip about her, she wrote to some guy in the states asking if she could have his old stunt chair and he said no that ones knackered and sent her a better one. Really heartwarming stuff.

Dunno. It was just the last item on Newsnight. The earlier attempts when she didn't quite land it were a bit alarming to watch.

That's the one, I saw a longer video on Facebook. She had been following the lead bloke in stunt wheelchair riding from the States on Twitter. He posted a picture of a wrecked frame and she asked if she could have it and it carried on from there.
    Found the video.

She was on the Welsh news, they showed her practicing in her local skate park. It was great to see. There's a crowd funding page now to send her off to the World Champs.

I don't especially like horses but there is a foal in the field next to the house that wears a sort of brightly coloured pj type thing decorated in little race horses. It's cool

Twin grandchildren have just turned 3. Seeing boy mastering the balance bike and girl getting the hang of pedalling and steering on a stabiliser bike. Oh and their mother this morning getting invited to sit on for several miles in a group of good tri-athletes including a GB level pro. The generational wheel keeps turning.

Local news reporters going out to report on predicted extreme weather events and then having to talk it up while the pictures are telling a different story.

THe ones I don't get are the reporters out in the extremew weather when it does happen. "People are being told not to venture out" they scream to be heard over the howling wind. I can see it's windy, I don't need someone stood in it to make me believe it. (sorry wrong thread)

  • On the weather thing... A clip on the news showed the sea and in all honesty looked like a force 6 or 7 to me.
Back in the day the boys would be turning up on the beach with their sinkers!
