Read a report about the new Goverment emergency alert scheme then made the mistake of reading the comments below which were basically the deranged, paranoid rantings about the Government being able to control our phones and where will this lead as if they hadn't already been able to do so if they had wanted and would worried about infringing the privacy of the public to that degree.

You can turn them off in settings. I've done that before as some governments rival spambots.

Yeah, the alerts don't bother me it is the conspiracy nutjobs who think the Government are going to take over their phones and control their lives as though this system is suddenly giving them some sort of access they couldn't achieve clandestinely if they wanted to.

My concern with this kind of thing is the scammers who will be planning to send fake messages with a link to click

Small dogs that think they're tougher than they really are.

We are looking after my daughters dogs who are small, 12 years old. One has very few teeth the other is so stiff in his shoulders he falls over when he is running. Yet they think they can take any other dog who gives then the wrong doggy signal.
You don’t have put up with this with cats.
Not strictly true. Ours likes to police his patch vigorously and we have lost count of how many times he has come in without his collar. I have also had to go and separate him from a neighbouring cat in the middle of the road in the middle of the night.

My mother-in-law's miniature Dachshund terrorises our little cockapoo and also my daughter's very nervous Staffie, she's not aggresive with them just very loud and boisterous. We took my GSD over there when he was still just a pup about 6 months old and she did it with him which he loved as he enjoys a bit of boisterous play. She got a bit panicky when he put her whole head in his mouth and whenever she's seen him since she just roles onto her back and submits before jumping up to hide on someone's lap.

Old man alert (though it's always been a complaint as I'm a morning person)

Why do gigs always need to finish so late? Saw underworld last night in London. Was good. But Monday night, finishes at 11, schlep home, kid still wakes up at 5:30 whether I've been out or not.

    Brutal.

    Dear [Aqua ]

I'm a daddy now and you boys pway too late and Daddy needs his sleep. It's unfair of you and you are naught naughty naughty for staying up so late.
Please pway earlier or i'm not going to buy tickets and i'm not going to come so there.
Mummy also says i'm not allowed to dwink anything but fizzy pop because my head hurts and I don't sleep pwoperly so you shouldn't sell strong stuff that makes you all shouty, dizzy and dribble.
The trains are being naughty too and it's along way in my pedal car so you can use my mates garage to play stuff. It will be fun but there's no room for you to stay over. Sowwy.

Surprised to hear that. My experience is they do finish earlier than they used to.
They tend to finish 10-10:30 in most places now to either meet a curfew or get people into public transport.

Back when I were young, a gig meant a taxi or a walk home as when you got out, public transport had stopped.

Even Rock City in Nottingham now ends gigs early so they can clear the place out and get a club night in after. A gig would end and then run into a club night as one event back in the day.

Only for selected concerts - apparently there is a demand for them.

You can get one if you got a ticket to see Shania Twain there later this year.

Cannot get over how expensive bikes are now.

Had a good year, thought I'd treat myself to a new bike after a decade.

To get a material upgrade I'm looking at a bike that costs more than my car. F*ck that.
