We should look at today in the press the case of "Mamadou Sakho He has a chance to play in the euro( football) ... Revolting!
A cyclist is banned for 2 years ? and it's sick. The fight against doping is uneven.
Yoann Offredo lost a year of his career for a "no show" and Sakho, he might go on to play the euro having admitted to be loaded.
    Distressing.

Baseball player in the US gets banned for 80 games for Testosterone and Clostebol

    Linky

They play 162 games a season, between start of April and start of October. So that equates to about a 3 months ban.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

The frustrating thing with this story (along with one of the faces of MLB being busted) is all the talking heads saying "but he's so skinny! steroids don't help with speed + endurance!!". For a sport that has an entire era named "the steroid era" it's depressing how little the majority of their pundits understand.

Loads of em at the moment

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugb ... h-11254886 - so much so even the press here are starting to notice

Latest one was from the club I support. As Rich has previously said most of these are probably more about the Valleys gym culture and body image rather than an attempt to cheat in low level, semi-pro sport (not that this excuses anything). My concern in rugby is the authorities will point to their success in catching the steroid users in the lower levels whilst my guess is there's systematic and more sophisticated drugs being used at the top levels.

Had a large pub argument about drugs in sport this evening because everyone had heard about Yates but had not heard about Sakho, despite one playing in a much more visible sport. And for some reason Yates positive proves that cyclists are all dopers (knowledge of the actual story was sketchy) but the Sakho story doesn't mean anything.

I know its a bit passe and bitter for cycling fans to talk about this these days (and I've had a couple of beers) but the level of bias in not just media reporting but also the public interest in doping seems very unfair sometimes. Most people I know seem to only know about cycling because of stories like this and the motorised doping thing but doping in other sports is basically ignored.

Paris-Roubaix was such a good sporting event but most people's only knowledge of cycling this year seems to be the bike motors, Yates positive, Sutton sexism and yesterday's tour de Yorkshire TV debacle. Crying shame.

I wouldn't let it bother you,

You are talking about attitudes that have been ingrained for years/decades.

Cycling does have an extremely dodgy track record here so it is not surprising that to a casual observer nothing has changed.

In fairness to most people in the UK doping is more interesting than a bike race

    It's only because of Armstrong.

If the same happened to Farah or Bolt, or Ronaldo they would soon know.

    Clenbuterol beef strikes again.

HOUSTON -- Not long after a bye week trip to Mexico, Houston Texans left tackle Duane Brown received an unpleasant surprise. It was a letter from the NFL informing him of a violation of the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs, having tested positive for clenbuterol.

According to sources, the NFL Players Association proved to the NFL that the culprit was Mexican beef.

The receipts from Brown's meals became evidence in his appeal.

Ros Tucker in his homemade lab...

I think it gets shipped out to an accredited lab elsewhere.

If one was positive, Ross Tucker would probably blame Froome for it.

Have we discussed Golf in this thread. Yes, I know, not really a sport... but there's been quite a few players pulling out of competing in the Olympics and read an article suggesting golf had a big problem.

No money at the Olympics. Several golfers, particularly on the US tour, are just all about the money. If they can earn more elsewhere or their sponsors want them elsewhere then they'll go there.

And the Olympics has never been part of their sport. When tennis came back in 1988 a lot of stars didn't bother.

Next Russian revelations in athletics due out shortly.

If they're allowed to compete in Rio, then it's effectively giving free rein to state-required doping.

Yet they turn up for the Ryder cup. Just that Olympic golf has zero prestige as yet.

Got no comment on the drugs part of the post.

Maybe that's what you're saying and I've misunderstood, but Ryder Cup is a big (Golf) deal, builds profile and gets more sponsors, plus existing sponsors would want you there.

Bill Beaumont's comments on becoming head of World Rugby

    Doping

The spotlight on rugby’s integrity as a clean sport has never been higher and Beaumont has vowed to improve anti-doping procedures.

“I will see that we maintain transparency and accountability, and make World Rugby’s anti-doping procedures and policies a matter of public record,” Beaumont said. “There is more to be done on a global level for rugby to be considered truly world-class in this regard and I will ensure there is sufficient investment from record Rugby World Cup revenues for targeted testing, whereabouts procedures and the latest detection methods.

“There will be targeted preventive education, particularly for adolescent players, and enhanced anti-doping provision for the women’s game reflecting its status.”

'Performance analysis and Froome not being clean was a media driven story. I haven’t heard one guy in the peloton say a negative thing about Froome, and I haven’t heard a single person in the peloton suggest Froome isn’t clean.' TSP

31 athletes test positive in retests from Beijing Olympics. No further detail at present.
