I see Big Bren (Foster) has the answer: rename the IAAF, move the HQ, probably change the logo and stationary, update the website, shuffle the office chairs...... Just to look as if they are doing something

Yesterday Coe said that the Exec Board and Anti-Doping were kept completely separate and that he didn't have a single conversation about doping until he became President.

At the risk of sounding crude, what an absolute load of cock.

Sky News have run the press conference live for the last 20 mins. Split screen of Pound/Mclaren speaking and close up shot of Coe :D

Unfortunately the TV has been on mute.

Pound can't think of anyone better than Coe to head the IAAF at this time. Well that's quite the statement of support.

Dick's standing by his man: "I can’t think of anyone better than Lord Coe to lead that". They must have hostages.

Pound must be sure there are no skeletons in the Coe closet to make a statement like that.

Interesting to note that he thinks Coe is obviously in denial.

I think Pound has been too kind to Coe.

The independent commission are also saying that no sanctions could be made from the Sunday Times/ARD reports. Disagree with Ashenden conclusions.

On Lord Coe's notorious praise for Lamine Diack after his election, Wada chairman Dick Pound says you "always say something nice about your predecessor. I wouldn't build a gravestone on the basis of that alone.

"There's no way Coe could have known the extent of what Diack was up to."

There is either some agreement behind the scenes that Coe is off the hook or there is nothing to pin on him. A bit sceptical myself.

The one uplifting aspect of the affair has been seeing establishment figures forced into moronic statements of support for his Lordship. It's like a totalitarian regime.

He very cleverly only answered the second part of the question - about Coe's 'spiritual leader' comments on his predecessor - but ignored the 'you said he must have known' part. It's the kind of thing you do when you know a guy is about to resign.

Some daft multi-part questions from the journalists, allowing Pound to select the 'kindest' answers. The written report may well be another story.

e: The mafia tactic of extorting cash from athletes after suppressing their positive doe tests is astounding. Imagine being part of an organisation that did that.

You have a point. It was striking how may questions directly mentioned Coe. He has some brass neck.

There are so many questions about Coe because the media, particularly the UK media, are desperate to make the story about him. Diack, Dolle etc, no-one knows them, but Coe everyone knows, so he has to be the story. They want a resignation, story of the year. And then they'd move on not giving a toss about his successor. It could be the head of the Turkish federation and they wouldn't bat an eyelid.

He hasn't got everyone's support. Akabusi speaks.
Former British 400m hurdler Kriss Akabusi: "I find it very difficult for Lord Coe to say he's got absolutely no clue - the only way is if a vice-president is a titular position that has no real contact with the sport.

"If he really wants us to believe he had no clue, if he really was that naive and unaware, then what is going to help him become more aware of a lot of the challenges that the sport is going to have going forward.

"If he was that naive then you're going to walk past stuff. He can't go in there with people of his ilk, he needs to go in with people who will challenge his thinking."

He's also a significant UK public figure. This is not a minor ministerial scalp story. Meanwhile:
    5. The IAAF Council could not have been unaware of the extent of doping in Athletics and the non-enforcement of applicable anti-doping rules.
    6. There was an evident lack of political appetite within the IAAF to confront Russia with the full extent of its known and suspected doping activities.
    7. The IAAF Council could not have been unaware of the level of nepotism that operated within the IAAF.
10.5 Extortion of Russian Athlete Liliya Shobukhova................................................................. 22
10.5.1 Events at the IAAF in relation to Shobukhova ................................................................. 24
10.5.2 Key Findings in Respect of Russian Athlete Shobukhova .............................................. 27

5 pages on extortion of a Russian athlete. A few more on extortion of a Turkish athlete. This is not a sport.

I think Pound said Turkey and other nations weren't part of the remit. In which case who decided the remit ?

They talked about needing a speedy investigation so it may be the only hard evidence is from the Russian whistleblower(s). But:
The commission also fears that instances of extortion in Russia and Turkey may be the ‘tip of the iceberg’

Incidentally the report contains 12 'marketing consultant' references. The plot thickens. It would be terrible if Boris is implicated in any 2012 shenanigans, boosting his chances of becoming PM.

Coe hasn't got anyone's support, the media are out to get him (and rightly so as his conduct has been a disgrace so far), no one who has followed this has any trust that he'll do the right thing either.

He's farked unless he has a complete about-turn on his attitude, opens everything up and does the right thing.

    He won't of course.

    He's incredibly thick.

    Yesterday:
In broadcast interviews before the publication of Pound’s report, which is expected to be an indictment of the role of the IAAF in the scandal, Lord Coe – who was a vice-president for seven years under the previous regime – insisted there was “no cover-up” and he had not “for one moment” regretted taking the role.
    Today:
    I accept this was a cover-up

I'm not normally one for conspiracies, but this moron is doing so much damage to the reputations of so many decent people that somebody/something big is being protected that would be exposed by his departure.

Yep, his attitude is absolutely disgusting. A toad of the highest order. His tone of voice when being questioned makes it appear that the journos are in the wrong.

    Also, the plot thickens.

    Coe Interview on BBC.

Journalist (Dan Rowan): "Does that make your position untenable?" [Re.: IAAF must have known about doping]
Coe: "No, I think what is clear er... is that we didn't have enough oversight on the operational delivery of many of these programmes er... we needed to know more, we didn't know more, the changes i'm going to make will allow the current council to know more and my successors to know more..."

WTF does that mean?! Especially the bit in bold.

It's a marketing/PR/politician-speak version of "we didn't know what was going on". In Coe's world, on a personal level, it means "I've got the CV of a Teflon coated wonder lizard - please don't let it end like this! People like me shouldn't have their legacy compromised by unforeseen unseemliness".
