I guess that depends on the source of the stats.
Qué? Government spending reports tend to be more reliable than IAAF press releases. They need to be reasonably accurate for the bankers, ironically.
Er, that is spend.
Not income.
Nor profit.
Not sure what the confusion is here. I know it's spending. Hence the reference to other things that money could have been spent on (e.g. infrastructure)....a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0 -

Anyone know the final Olympic bill? Are those 2800 homes built from the Olympic village 'affordable'? Is there life in Peckham?
I'm afraid that the tidal wave that hit cycling when the LA revelations came to light does not for me reflect the reaction to doping in Athletics. Or is it just me?

Former Essendon coach James Hird
“I am shocked by this decision. I firmly believe the players do not deserve this finding. They do not deserve to face a 12-month suspension from the sport. This is a miscarriage of justice for 34 young men.”
AFL Players Association CEO Paul Marsh
“We have maintained our position that the players have done nothing wrong. Nothing today has changed our view. The players took all reasonable steps to assure themselves that what they were being given was compliant with the Wada code. They [the players] are the victims, not the perpetrators. They deserve our sympathy, not our scorn.”

Are those 2800 homes built from the Olympic village 'affordable'?
I know 3 people who live there and are in their mid-late twenties doing reasonably normal income jobs, I get the impression it's moderately affordable compared to other parts of London.0 -

That's not what the govt means by affordable. "Affordable Housing" is the new term for social housing i.e. subsidised housing (owned or rented) for those otherwise unable to access housing in the current market.0 -

Hird is bloody fortunate he's not serving a ban too. He's a hero in AFL, so everyone gives him a free pass.
As for the squeals...bs, I'm afraid. Stephen Dank admitted to the media on a number of occasions that he'd given the players TB4, and professed surprise, well, disgust actually, when told it was on the banned list.
The players tripped over themselves in their testimonies, prevaricating, according to the decision.
And...athletes liability. Compounded by implausible, and then conflicting, denials0 -

It's disingenuous to suggest I'm saying all of the spending was wasted. I'm not. I'm sure the Qataris will enjoy their Olympic village, and the regeneration of wasteland in the area is most welcome. Meanwhile that spending was unavailable for other worthy projects.
Given the enormous sums of public money involved, I'm suggesting there should be some accountability for:
'"First of all I have no worries about the reputation of the Games as we have a zero-tolerance policy to drug abuse in sport and during the Games we will provide all the infrastructure the IOC needs to carry out its testing process in the competition," Coe told reporters at the conclusion of the IOC's penultimate Coordination Commission visit.'

Whatever you think about Coe, and even discounting the regeneration, any boosts to tourism, the boost to the UK/London brand, the fantastic facilities available, the free water fountains for kids onsite, the Olympics were absolutely magical for a month.

They're going to need a new human shield. The second part of the Wada report into doping in Russia and attempted cover-ups at the IAAF will conclude that there was no way members of the world athletics governing body’s council, which included the current president Sebastian Coe, could have been unaware of the extent of doping and non-enforcement of the rules in track and field, according to the Associated Press.
It's looking increasingly likely that Coe's role is to take the fall for some colossal London 2012 scandal. If it was bid rigging under Blair, we'd know by now......a rare 100% loyal Pro Race poster. A poster boy for the community.0 -
Yesterday Coe said that the Exec Board and Anti-Doping were kept completely separate and that he didn't have a single conversation about doping until he became President.
I guess we'll see later on. Seems somewhat misguided/incredible/incredulous [delete as applicable] to never have had a conversation about doping.
