Drugs in other sports and the media.

Still can't understand why Coe is having to appear in front of a select committee though. How is the running of an international sport governing body anything to do with the UK Parliament? I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's good that he's having to explain himself, but how do they have any jurisdiction?
Prepared to be corrected, but he doesn't and they don't. There by choice afaiu.
I think that's true, but Coe being in the HoL and Chair of the BOA (though it was announced a couple of days ago that he's resigning from that post) made it something of a no-refuse choice, I think.0 -
did anyone watch it all ? I only read the text updates on the BBC but seems they had some tough questions and he wriggled and squirmed a few times.
Did seem to highlight the main issue when he stated their budget for drug testing was either 2 or 4m a year. No wonder they are always behind the cheats
Just to put that in context:
Athletics was the only sport in the top earning Group A when it comes to revenue share from the Olympics.
From London 2012, the IAAF earned the entire revenue pot for Group A, namely around $47m
Boo hoo, the IOC have changed things, and at Rio, poor little athletics will have to share the Group A pot of cash with the likes of swimming and gymnastics.

Well, yes. There is certainly pressure that can be put on him to appear, as there would for any establishment figure. But had he wanted to show some brass neck and Blatter it out I *think* he'd have been able to try.

If he didn't it would have only raised suspicion further, having also only seen things on twitter etc about it i may be wrong but it seemed like he was a bit uninformed about things he should know about or chose not to know about.......such as https://twitter.com/Lord_Sugar/status/6721086818032312320 -
I must say, I'm finding Donald Trump's plans to stop Mo Farah visiting Alberto Salazar a little heavy handed

Here is one clown with his head stuck firmly in the sand.

"Blood tests are invasive" and "sure, there is no drug problem in Gaelic Football". All strong arguments against the introduction of a structured drug testing programme for this sport!

So Lame Dick, the erstwhile Senegalese ex-pres of the IAAF, has ponied up to a French judge that the Russians paid a nice little bribe in 2012 of $1.5m for Dick allowing their banned athletes to compete in the 2013 World Athletics Champs in Russia - sorry, I meant donation - into the Senegalese election campaign of the now-President of Senegal

Yeah. Well, I think I'll wait till I read the original (if such exists), or see a link tweeted by someone rather more reputable and credible than your mate there0 -

yeah, well just don't bring that mentalist tin foil to the forum again. It's like treading in something unpleasant and then bringing it into the house on your shoe0 -

It's a leaked email from Coe's supposedly r/h man. That is a damning email if genuineM.Rushton0 -
Nick Davies does not deny the email is genuine; this quote taken from the BBC News website...
"Davies denies any wrongdoing and in a statement to the BBC said: "As director of IAAF communications it was one of my responsibilities to manage and promote the reputation of the IAAF.
"My email to the IAAF's then marketing consultant Papa Massata Diack, less than a month before the start of the Moscow World Championship, was brainstorming around media handling strategies to deal with the serious challenges we were facing.
"No plan was implemented following that email and there is no possibility any media strategy could ever interfere with the conduct of the anti-doping process.
"I did not discuss these ideas with CSM and there has never been any agreement between the IAAF and CSM for any PR campaigns.
"CSM has never worked for the IAAF in any capacity since Sebastian Coe joined the company."0 -
I think I've been clear on my view of Lord Coe of Niketown (a monicker first coined by Joel, I think?)
Food for thought:
If Coe is made to go, he will be replaced by Sergey Bubka, his rival in the Prez election and IAAF VP.
And if you think Coe has fannied around with the Russians, you wait till you see Sergey 'best chums with Putin' Bubka in action.
As for anyone calling for the whole shooting match to be burned to the ground, they should try dealing in reality. It aint gonna happen. Aint gonna happen to FIFA, and it certainly aint gonna happen to IAAF.
Get the AD testing away from all governing bodies, and move forward on that basis.0 -
RR2, given that Bubka is Ukrainian (and head of the Ukrainian NOC), surely he ain't going to be Putin's biggest chum right now...0

Depends on the "type" of Ukranian...
Careful...0 -
I once asked a Ukranian colleague about the Orange Revolution.
She dropped her previous cheerful demeanour, stared me in the face with her cold blue eyes and through gritted teeth said "it's best for you we don't discuss that".
She turned back to her screen and resumed her cheerful ways.0 -

Well, you know what I mean, a lot of people in Crimea were pro Russia. It's a problem full of shades of grey...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

Yeah. The Orange Revolution was one thing - mixed opinions. Generally less mixed views on invasion of Crimea and parts of the East...0

Hence need to avoid generalisation and thus my question to RR2... TBH I can't at this moment see why Bubkha would be any worse than Coe other than the fact that Coe is 'one of us'...0 -
