Yeah. That's the thing.
There are a heap of stories of things such as Nike personnel getting actively involved trackside in lobbying USATF officials re Nike-sponsored athletes. There was a pretty infamous incident in the Womens 3000m US Nats last year involving one of Salazar's athletes which saw Salazar, supported by Nike reps, lobbying officials to disqualify the runner who'd beaten his athlete. Officials managed to disregard their own rule book at first by ruling on behalf of a Salazar appeal against his initial appeal that had gone the wrong way for him. 2 days later USATF reversed their decision yet again, thanks to the uproar that had followed.
Stories persist around the '98 Kickball World Cup of Ronaldo having a seizure before the game but the coach fielding him at the insistence of the team's sponsor (Nike). Probably bollocks, mind .Team My Man 2018: David gaudu, Pierre Latour, Romain Bardet, Thibaut pinot, Alexandre Geniez, Florian Senechal, Warren Barguil, Benoit Cosnefroy0 -
The list grows.
Child labour/sweat shops
Tiger Woods
Lance Dopestrong
Lord Coe
Blade Runner.
Any additions?
Justin Gatlin. The one who's been banned twice for doping.
But I say this whilst sitting here, wearing a pair of Nike Air trainers...
Salazar, Rupp, Farah and Project Oregon
Allegedly
Powell
A-Rod
Jones
We could do a game here. Everyone on the forum takes it in turns to name a Nike sponsored doper, and let's see if we can get to 1,000 before Christmas.0 -

Radcliffe has been cleared by the IAAF. Wonder if they actually had any samples they could still test or whether they just agreed to clear her.0

Aren't Adidas just as bad though ? Sure they have a few dopers0

What about all the Nike-hyped bullshit about Neymar when he got injured in the World Cup 1/4 final and missed the semi for Brazil? I suppose it was lost on Nike that the only reason Brazil got to the semis was because they kicked Colombia out of it. And then proceeded to 'do it for Neymar' by getting dicked 7-1 by Germany. It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -

Nah, Nike are notorious for the influence they bring when it comes to governing bodies, ethics etc. Adidas are minnows by comparison0 -

The first of whom is the man that nearly broke Adidas and needed one particularly corrupt Frenchman and then one very savvy French industrialist to put it all back together again.Trail fun - Transition Bandit

she was a fantastic athlete. It should be pointed out that your olympic men that you quote would be also rans at best. the top 2000 mens marathon performances are all sub 2.10, her best, whilst being paced by men was 2.15.When a true genius appears in this world, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him. - Jonathan Swift0 -

As per usual, the problem is that, as with Lance and his 'most tested athlete, tested over 500 times' bs, if its repeated enough times, something like this gets accepted as 'proof' over time (and in his case, truth, when it was a blatent lie anyway)
Radcliffe was an extraordinary athlete. Her WR was set at a time when - as Rich has frequently pointed out - the women and men marathon runners started together, and as such she had fantastic pacemakers. Ever wondered why long distance runners aiming to beat a record such as a WR, have pacemakers in the field to help them try to achieve that? Its cos it bloody well works.
I need something more than 'her WR still stands' to give me something concrete to go on. Bob Beamon's LJ record of 8.90m stood for 23 years, from 1968 till Mike Powell broke it in 1991. As with Radcliffe's time, you look into the circumstances around the setting of a record. In Beamon's case, it was in Mexico City - 2240m above sea level. He has the maximum permitted tailwind of 2m per second for his jump. The 2 combined - plus him being in the form of his life - created the perfect conditions. He never jumped over 8.22m again.0 -
That's 2.2% quicker than anyone has ever run except her. Even larger if you don't include Kenyans.
For context here are the comparisons in other disciplines.
Rudisha is 0.2% quicker than the next fastest man at 800m
Bolt is less than 1% quicker than Gay & Blake at 100m
El Gerrouj is less than 0.2% quicker than Lagat at 1500m
Quite a performance then to beat all these known dopers by over 2.2%.0 -

At some point, people will actually start to understand that sport isnt linear. Times - and their relativity to other times, never mind other events, raced in totally different circumstances, dont underline diddly when it comes to the desperate desire to out dopers. Its not a neat little mathematical formula you use to out them.
Until then, you'll just go around and around in circles.
But believe what you want. No skin off my nose.0 -

Any bloody sport has sportsmen and women who've done extraordinary things, have set records that have stood for an age, have realised success at a very late stage in their careers. All of those could appear to someone, as a duck.0 -

In women's athletics the only results that have stood for an age are Flo Jo and the Eastern Europeans, and this one.
You can't blame people for thinking something is very strange.0 -
And also set at a time when performance enhancement with regards to distance sports was at its very largest with EPO/transfusions being rife.0

You forget Wang Junxia. According to Paula, it was a "cruel joke" when she was added to the Hall of Fame.
Also, the whole "EPO cheats out" thing was because Yegorova had got off on a technicality.
She seems happy to accuse without due process, and happy to complain when others do the same.0 -

A lot of countries, including Kenya and Ethiopia, are lagging a little when it comes to gender equality. As time goes by more and more opportunities will be afforded to Women and the gap will close and eventually be eradicated.Twitter: @RichN950
