it's alleged (and there is supporting email evidence, apparently) that he whispered in Diack's ear to get the 2021 World Championships awarded to Eugene, Oregon (home of Nike, who Coe is a paid shill for) without a bidding process.0 -

In summary, he oiled the machine on behalf of Nike, as we suspected.
As well as ignoring doping scandals and IAAF duties for however many years.

Besides, the USA has never had a Worlds before and (whether you like it or not) Nike have been a huge backer of athletics through good times and bad. So Eugene (which holds a Diamond League event) seems a pretty reasonable choice to me. It's not a FIFA/Qatar type situation.Twitter: @RichN950 -

I see your point and that's all very well but there should be a democratic process of selection and Gothenberg has missed out on at least a fair chance.
Lets have the 2017 world road race championships near the Sidi factory or the Colnago factory shall we? Whilst I appreciate the fact that sport requires finance, these companies are in it to make a profit - that's the bottom line. Look how quickly sponsors pull out of cycling when they have had their 15 minutes and extracted what they want out of it.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
although when the World Championships went to Osaka in 2007 the same thing happened.
What was the alternative, give a load of bribes from both cities to the IAAF members and then whoever had the best bribes wins ?0 -
What was the alternative, give a load of bribes from both cities to the IAAF members and then whoever had the best bribes wins ?
I may have missed your point but there should be no bribery. Eugene as stated, is a Diamond League venue and had every chance to get a WC, same as Gothenburg. Given the finite number of venues, surely all of the suitable venues would be given an opportunity to hold a WC event under a fair system?
If individuals within governing organisations benefit financially and politically from bribery, then it is wrong. Looks like Coe was doing a return favour for Nike. I hope the Swedes kick up merry hell about this.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -

^This. It's not politics, it's bribery. And a governing body is there to be impartial.
I'm looking forward to the 'wow' that Pound says is in the second report.0 -
it's either bribary and no bidding process or both cities bribe the IAAF and only one of them wins.
In an ideal world both cities should submit a bid and not have to deal in back handers, gifts to the visiting delegates from the IAAF etc etc0 -
Well he's not working for Nike any more, apparently.:

Cor - who'd be a multinational corporation, eh!? One minute you get busted for employing child labour in sweat-shops, then 2 of your most globally recognised ambassadors (Woods and Armstrong) gets busted for being bast@rds... Next thing you know, another ambassador gets to squat over the IAAF throne: but then, lo and behold, he gets crow-barred from his bung...
On the plus side, you've got an extra £100K knocking about; but that's as nowt compared the potential countless millions lost through Coe's position of influence being flagged.0 -

Weak point, I know but is there any correlation between Nike and the pressure they place on individuals/organisations to fulfil contracts and obligations or is it simply a matter of recruiting who is perceived to be at the pinnacle of any given discipline, regardless of other factors or plain bad luck?

USATF signed a - wait for it - 23 year contract with Nike, from 2017-2040

Adidas, nearly bankrupted by the Germans, saved by the French.
I struggle with both of the "big two". They hardly score well on any kind of ethical business model.

Yeah. That's the thing.
There are a heap of stories of things such as Nike personnel getting actively involved trackside in lobbying USATF officials re Nike-sponsored athletes. There was a pretty infamous incident in the Womens 3000m US Nats last year involving one of Salazar's athletes which saw Salazar, supported by Nike reps, lobbying officials to disqualify the runner who'd beaten his athlete. Officials managed to disregard their own rule book at first by ruling on behalf of a Salazar appeal against his initial appeal that had gone the wrong way for him. 2 days later USATF reversed their decision yet again, thanks to the uproar that had followed.0
