  • Great stuff aidieb, that's the most original paint job of the thread so far. Really nice. Very jealous of the weather you've got over there.

    Very unique 456C above!

Here is mine now equipped with double + bash, and a fender bender!

    4562013_zpsafc3b1e8.jpg

    Changes to make -
New front rim/wheel to match rear.
The more I look at that Lezyne jacket the worse it looks. Going to try get a plain black one or something more subtle.
A few cables/hoses of mine look a tad long so I might address that at some point.

    Thanks for the comments guys.
I still like that matt black frame, mine was when I bought it. I had it decaled up exactly as mine in white over the matt black and it looked nice but the unprotected vinyl wouldn´t have lasted a week, plus my riding buddy is "team Black" so I like to annoy him with a bit of bling! :-)

Holy headset spacers batman!!!!

You may want to drop a few of those, will improve the handling no end!!

It's looking good Plyphon, nice job on the double n bash. The lezyne protector? Get rid of it and show off the getto innertube - it looks so much better. If you havnt done that already that is.

I've yet to put on my fender bender - is it easy cos I'm terrible at DIY :D

It does look like a few mm's in spacers but this could just be the picture, a bit like mine, a weird angle makes it look taller.

Brake hoses should be an easy job - I was thinking of doing mine but there not bad.

    Are you enjoying it?

Theres more than a few mm there! Lowering the bars will make it easier to weight the front end in corners and it won't feel like a barge going up hill, its easy to try out!

I hadn't reaaaalllyyy considered that there were that many there, but I will try and drop it by 20mm or so and see how it feels :)

Now, is there anyone on this thread who hasn't completed their build yet? If so then get a move on - the good weather will be here soon (he says optimistically).

    I'm getting there!
    No money left :(

No money left? That's a poor excuse if you ask me ;D. But I guess all good things come to those that wait, or save up, or put on credit card, or borrow, or sell stuff!!

    Paul

I'm a student, my money is not excessive, I had a decent amount, then I started my build, now I'm poor :(

Fortunately I got a new client today :D so new website being built for them will get money for me. Yay n' stuff!
    So, money soon!

Isn´t money a problem when the "shinythingitis" gets you!!

I´m always wanting something new for my bike, I only have the one so things wear out pretty quickly too and I love it when a worn out part means I can browse for a new upgraded one (money permitting).

If it's a problem I generally give the bike a good clean and go for a nice long ride of about 40-50Km, that get's it out of my system, that's what I did yesterday, took the picture below as it was a lovely vantage point. Funny how I never seem to take pictures from the bottom of hills though!

I got home and my rebas had lost nearly all their travel, so I had an afternoon in the garage, seems like I turned the little rubber bumpstop at the bottom of the air piston on it's edge when refitting the travel spacer earlier in the week and it was acting as a brake on the side of the piston not allowing it to come back up. an easy fix so all OK again.

Still looking forward to my new SID RLT's coming with tapered steerer and 15mm axle, should be nice n solid round the front then, not that it's crap now but it must be better after spending the money yes? Good deal on the forks 357€

Lovely views in your photos. It will most certainly stiffen up the front end a bit. I'm sure you'll notice the difference.

Just re read my last post, my new SID RLT's were only 257€ not 357€, what a plonker! they arrived today but I have to wait for my 1 1/2" crown adaptor for the smoothie headset. will be nice to look at them though.

Congrats ant on rejoining the fold.
  • Anyone running tubeless? I'm Thinking of trying it but not sure if the benefits justify the expense. I'd be getting a stan's rims kit and can get it done for about £40.

I'n running tubeless, have been for the last year or so, much less hassle but when it goes wrong it's messy!
I ran normal tyres tubeless to begin with and found that to be fine, but if you do they seem to get injured more frequently than tubeless tyres. If you get a hole above a certain size it's a bit of a problem to seal it up , even trying to put a patch on the inside of the tyre is very hit and miss with how effective they work due to the rougher surface of a non tubeless tyre.
I got a nail trough the shoulder of a brand new Hutchinson Python and it was a continuing problem right to the end of the tyres life.
The last two sets of tyres I have used tubeless and they have been great, I have had a couple of losses of pressure ( due to punctures i assume) but they have pumped right back up and kept going. I haven't had a puncture since fitting my last set in October last year. and the rear is just wearing out now.
I use a home made recipe for my sealant from latex/water & ground coffee. which I find loads cheaper than the official sealants and work satisfactorily.
My Sun Ringle rims use the "BST" tubeless technology borrowed from "Stans Rims" (Sun Ringle make the rims for Stans) and they mount/seal up very quickly.
I have had problems with the stans tubeless valve stems where the rubber that is pulled into the inside of the rim to seal it wears a bit and caused some leakage, they are really expensive to replace for what they are. I did replace one with a Mavic one from my lbs which seems to be really good so far but still pricey.
I try to keep an eye out for tubeless tyres at reduced prices and rarely pay much more than the price of a normal tyre. Though slightly heavier than a non tubeless tyre they do seems to be more resistant to punctures & seal up better onto the rims.
I have not tried to use an after market tubeless set up in a non tubeless rim so I can't comment on that.
That's my 10p's worth on that subject.
  • is anyone running a 160mm fork? any thoughts you 'd like to share on the handling?
  • I would like to give tubeless a go but it seems the negatives outweigh the benefits. I came off a drop at a weird angle, due to poor technique :D, and lost a bit of the tyre over the rim. This would have been a messy job. Also, everyone I've spoken to have complained of continual pressure leakage.

I'll stick with the slime tubes for now. They are a bit lighter than they used to be and I've not had a trail side tube swap since the summer :)

I've not seen any on this thread unless I'm mistaken. I run my Revs at 150mm and, whilst I'm still tweaking the set up, it climbs fine in my opinion. How much a difference another 10mm of travel will make I'm not sure but you can typically space them down to 150 or 140.

Are you getting or have 160's?

Only just got (well in the post) the frame, so I'm looking into components now, I'm leaning towards a 150mm Fox TALAS for the height adjustable-ness, but wondered what a set of 36s would be like for sh*ts and giggles.

I've seen the latest yellow version - it's in this thread - but I don't recall seeing the orange frame in a full build. Have you checked OnOne's page on Posterous? If I see one, I'll link to it.

I could give Shedfire - Brant Richards - a tweet, he might have a stock photo about.

personally i wouldn't run 160mm forks on it. I had 150mm rev's whilst down the trails it was great, the front end did "wander" at bit on the uphills. Nothing major but with 160mm's on it, the ups would be hard to keep the nose down, unless you could dial the front end down with adjustable forks.
