  • Loving the yellow c456's, the colour is really growing on me, much like the black and green.

Loving the parts left in your garage build too.

BTW we should see some new frame colour options from on one soon - look pretty cool.

  • OK quick picture in poor light.
I really need to get a daylight picture so you can see the greenness of the yellow.
Will try on Saturday after work.. feck I should be riding but all I do is work at the moment.

  • That's not bad actually, the big black decal takes away some of the oddness of that massive downtube by being a bit slimming. Hmm!
  • Oh you promised it was bright - and I put my shades on too.
Yeah a daylight shot should change the colouring completely. The black on the down tube does give it a different look - I like it.

  • Just looking at the on one website. They list an orange frame with white decals. Anyone seen a 456C this colour?

The website has no photos and a google image search turned up nothing.

I fancy buying this frame but wouldn't mind seeing it first!

  • Thanks for the link. I like it and it should go nicely with my white forks and rims but I still think I'd prefer to see a picture of the actual frame before I buy. I wonder why on one have not shown it on thir website....... the green/yellow frame of the same design is there?
  • Yeah that's a strange one. It can be difficult to get a handle on prices, colours and decals on On-Ones website but let's hope they get all the stock sorted by Christmas and then get a good sale on!!

I really want a matte black frame but would settle for gloss or lacquered. Black and gold is my scheme. Got most of it sorted bar frame, forks and front mech - the important bits lol :D

You will see from Brant's post the yellow one is down as "green"; I guess this explains its green tinge.
    Hopefully a better pic..

  • That frame just looks superb. The decals you've done are probably the best I've seen mate, nice one!

I've been for my first big trail centre day today at whinlatter. Wow! This bike is seriously good. Feels so planted and gives you so much confidence when flying downhill. I've only got a trek hardtail and a Boardman FS to compare to but this c456 is a million times better than those. I'm deeply in love with this bike now.

(My brother had his first blast on his carbon whippet today too and was very impressed)

What kind of trails did you manage on it? Sounds like you had a blast and really enjoyed the C456! Your deeply in love comment made me chuckle but its statements like that which tell me I can't wait to get the frame!! Not sure what Trek you're comparing but an FS Boardman is no clunker ;D

And your bro' is on an On One too - should get you a freebie gift from On One :^)

  • Ha ha, I know I'm a bit of an onone fan, I just love how their bikes look and there approach to the whole business is really refreshing. I've had scandal in the past which I ran as a ss commuter - belting bike. I've talked my brother and recently my best mate into onone frames. They surely owe me something I reckon!

The trails today where very slippy wet rocks and tree roots but the frame performed amazingly. The 2.4 conti x tyres heled a bit too. Whinlatters a beautiful place - the trails are very testing and technical in places, you've got to try it Paul when you get your bike built.

You should ask On One if they would like to reward your support and promote customer advocacy by giving you a deal or freebie, or something! Whinlatter Sounds fantastic - ill definitely put it on the list for a long weekend visit next year.

I'm really happy with the bike but do wish they made it in 17"..
Its not the lightest build but it was never intended to be.
It Climbs well . well well enough for me ..1x9 and gravity inspired
Excellent on the downs and surprisingly comfortable through the rocky sections like Cain n Abel on the MBR
Not the prettiest of frames they say , but I'm definitely a function over form guy and for the money you really cant beat it .
OMG a fastback! I love my type 3's!

This looks bloody brilliant. How are you enjoying it?

I've got the M596 brakes and love them (bargain too).

    Are you running 3 rings?
What where your reasons for getting th chain guide?

    Black/red/white scheme looks great.

yeah enjoying it when i get the chance to get out, been using the road bike a fair bit recently

yep got a triple on, happy with that atm. went for the bionicon as the chain popped off a couple of times - fixed once the groupset bedded in, it has also mad a real difference with chain tension, works nicely.

    cheers for comments

Hello Tullen. Yeah get us some more photos with the bling on!!

My C456 build starts next week!! Can't wait - Christmas comes early.

My wheelset was naff and FUBAR, so I got the Superleggera's wheelset from Superstar. £150 was ridiculously cheap and the hubs are awesome - better than HOPE in my opinion. The difference was huge!! And the service from superstar is great - love Haribo. Check their website out, I got an email from them to say they had some new deals!!!

So any tips, hints or lessons learned from your c456 build??

    New pictures soon!
Superstar switch evo hubs have better engagement than hope pro's if I remember reading correctly in a review in mbuk. Mbuk also gave them an awesome review. A wheelset build with mavic 317's and the switch hubs is only around £200 it's mental!
Only real tips i have is get tapered forks, mine aren't and as such have to use a step down headset, which I'm sure has caused unnescesary stress on the otherwise tank proof head tube. Another absolute essential is to take the frame to a lbs and have them press the headset cups into the frame for you! I did mine myself with a couple of big washers and some threaded rod but I can imagine its quite easy to make a mess of it with a carbon frame!

Good luck with your build! And welcome to the c456 club!

All I have is a lizard skin in xl for my chain stay purely because I hate the sound of the chain cracking on the carbon! Not particularly bothered about the rest of the frame because it is raw carbon, but if it was painted I would definitely go for some frame protector patches for the head tube. Price wise I work in a bike shop so got the lizard skin heavily discounted for next to nothing but I believe the rrp is around 13 quid!

    Hope this helps!

I wrapped an old inner tube around the chainstay to keep it quiet. I've got a strip of helitape down the 'point' on the underside of the downtube, and around the bottom of the BB to give some protection from rock strikes. The frame really amplifies the noise of those btw, they always seem to sound fatal, but when I stop to have a look there's barely a scratch on the frame. Carbon is tough stuff!

  • Good tips so far - keep em coming!

With the matte/raw frames - do you still get cable rub??

I guess bike tape or patches are glossy, ruining the look of the frame?

Yep you still get the cable rub on the head tube but that's the only place ive got any... so far it hasn't started to make a groove, im not entirely sure it will either because they make frame patches out of carbon so it must be harder than aluminum? It just leaves a kind of scuff to the surface of the carbon so cosmetically its not a big deal either.

  • I'm a bit of a bugger for things like this. Not that I'm going to treat my frame like anything other than what it's meant for, it's just cable rub is annoying and unsightly :D

Maybe a carbon patch or something similar will suffice?

I think a "rage patch" was mentioned by Leythervegas - anyone use one? Is it for downtube?

A question for the C456 masses - travel?

I'm intending to build up on a 150, as many seem to, but some say that's travel overkill and makes the head to slack - I want the bike to go anywhere, over anything and down the otherisde as good as a hardtail can, overkill or appropriate?

I got my frame today and forks arrived yesterday. They are 150 revs RLT dual airs but spaced down to 130. They are mint 2nd handers I picked up, who the previous owner ran at 130 and recommended keeping that way and see how I got on. He gave me some great advice, which I'm gonna take, so my advice to you is the same - leave them as is, see how you get on on your normal rides and then make the decision!! All 456 complete bikes are running 150 out the box from On One so I wouldn't worry - your safe in the knowledge you can scale em back if needs be.

I have only ridden mine with 140mm travel Bomber's and all i can say is that i am very happy with how nice the bike is on climbs, although on descents a little extra travel wouldn't go amiss.
