  • More doping needed to make races more exciting for VerwoodAsh! In fact, bugger banned substances, let's make it a free-for-all! Yay!

Did you like watching Pantani race, mate? Shame he went loopy and died of a massive overdose in a hotel in Rimini, but....hell, he was exciting on the juice, wasnt he...

Pantani was I think the only "sportsman" who I ever watched with anything like approaching pleasure and admiration.

You mean all other sportsmen/women you hate? Why watch sport then, to turn your own question around?

I did not say that I "hate" other sportspersons - I simply have no particular feelings either way. I don't do the celebrity culture thing AT ALL. They're all just other people, most just as dim witted and politically illiterate as the rest of the population. I make an exception for premier footballers - I certainly hate a society that allows such obscene wealth for such little ability - kicking a ball is worth about minimum wage in my book of fairness.

And I very rarely watch "sport".

I think if you were watching any cycle racing in the last 120 odd years then there would have been endemic doping; it just wasn't talked about, as now with most other sports.
Anyhow VerwoodAsh; is Darren Kenny still riding these days?

    Full interview if not posted:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43EE9I8ZMFc

Just watched this, the only piece I can believe is that the doping programme was not as sophisticated as we are currently led to believe. To be honest, almost all of the questions posed could be asked of so many dopers in sports. I still do not believe the UCI was not aware or involved in this, given the admission that in 2005, the re-test of the 99 results proved positive, he should have been banned at least. Yet he was allowed to re-enter competition early. Stinks. LAs body language when asked about the UCI was the same as the video footage of the SCA statements, just a quieter tone.

This whole interview is detracting everybody away from the organization behind LA and its contacts. Its these relationships that once exposed can be used to bludgeon change into the UCI. This interview is clearly detracting from that. That said of course there is still tonights to go though I doubt it will be anything other than more of the same. Essentially he is telling the truth but being asked the wrong questions.

Pats smug and self righteous response early this morning was too soon, too well prepared and too 'told you so' to be credible.

But the picture Lance has briefly tried to paint is that he 'took some drugs' and its simple. But that is crap. He's a cyclist not any form of medical expert, and it takes someone like Ferrari etc to know what drugs to take and when, to measure the effects, to say when to take them to avoid detection, and to get the very very best out of the drugs. That in itself is sophisticated, and hence the millions of dollars.

As an aside, am I the only one to think its nice, and nice timing, to not have Dennis here polluting the thread with complete guff?

Also a hands up, I really thought it likely there would be some 'what it means to be an American' patriotism comments thrown around in the interview, but there wasn't.

Plus, what I thought really refreshing is that because Armstrong isn't religious we didn't have any, let alone countless, 'I hope god forgives me' and god comments like that that we would have had with so many other athletes... a big dose of patriotism plus religion would have made it completely infuriating to watch!

    Agree.

Pretending a bus broke down on a road is not sophisticated.
Private jets and a web of deciet and rule bending across various official bodies is more.
Paying for a cutting edge sports scientist dope doctor and securing a virtually exclusive deal very much is.

(I'd still love to know who Ferrari was playing off against eachother...)

The problem with some of these attitudes, as I was discussing with a mate earlier, is that LA himself and others paint a picture that might make sense if it was 2018 and he was talking about all this, but LA's lies and undermining of USADA etc are barely a couple of months old really, extremely recent history. The guy has a lot to answer and answer for, and he hasn't answered bugger all of it yet.

:) he said he was on holiday... more of a holiday for the thread than himself I reckon!

EDIT... oh b0llocks, I just spotted he's back.

Hmmm....now I now where some of the riders get the 'it was 15 years ago' or 'I was only 10 years / 15 years old'

Count from circa Festina affair, dont they, rather than when the Texan Villian retired first time, never mind second time...

This is a bit of an obsession for you isn't it, even after all this it still appears to dominate your simple Weedgie life. I couldn't give a f*ck either way he doped and now he has admitted it .......move on.

well I wasn't expecting him to name any name so no surprises there.

Says he took some epo but not much and it was a level playing field. Still playing up to those that say it was full of drugs and the best guy would have won without them.

Thought no question was off limits but still ignored Betsy. Saying because of perjury is rubbish as once he's admitted EPO and Ferrari and doping then he's already [perjured himself.

Nice to see he admitted it from 95 onwards so basically most of his career but again it was all like it was on a chat show rather than being probed by a hard hitting journalist and he just never came across as sorry, more I wish I had still got away with it

Two part interview - anyone know if the 2nd part has been recorded yet?

Him and his PR team could analyse the responses and opinions from the first interview then I suspect use them to form the basis of the second interview, giving the people what they want and then saying that was the plan all along.

Yes. The two parts are a single interview split over two episodes.

Yeah, they recorded the whole thing in one go and just split it over two night so they could sell more advertising.
