Good to see my old mate Richie Wooles getting a mention from Porter and Boardman for his involvement with the Canadian team - he's helping turn them into an emerging threat :)

The omnium isn't really that confusing. Basically the winner of each event gets 1 point, second 2 points and so on. The winner is the person who has least points after 6 events, the only confusing individual event can be the points race where you get points for placing in the sprints every 10 laps and extra points if you lap the main bunch so it can be hard to keep track. The elimination race (or 'Devil') is extremely exciting, especially the way that GB's Laura Trott rides it!
Points is great. I'd like to see it again as a separate event at the Olympics, as well as in the Omnium, like it is at the Track World Championships. Much more interesting than all this sprint and pursuit stuff.
Why did they drop it from the Olympics - because they introduced the Omnium? It's like dropping the fencing from the Olympics because it's in the Pentathlon.

WOW! GB women set new world record in their qualifying round (team pursuit)!

Something like 3 seconds ahead of USA.

    !!!!

On a side note, I see that Victoria Baranova of Russia has been sent home for failing a drugs test.

Becky used to beat her regularly, then all that stopped.
Passed two Euro U 23's cost her 4 or 5 titles

Team GB matching up to highest expectations.

Best bit of the women's kierin was seeing the camera cut to the Canadian entourage and there in full HD glory dominating my TV screen was the ugly mug of my Best Man (he's been helping drive the Canadian team around since they came over).

The two track events I thought GB would be least likely to get a medal were the Men's Team Sprint and the Women's Keirin - and they were both golds.

I was sceptical about the Women's Keirin too.

Pendelton seems to have stepped it up a gear or two since she was last competing in the velodrome.

Pendleton has shown, again and again and again, that when it comes to the major events, she is always ready to step it up a gear or two.

When asked by colleagues how many golds we'd win in the velodrome I said 4 with anything else being a bonus. We've already won 2 bonus medals (could have been 3 if not for the DQ!). I thought we'd win both team pursuits, men's keirin and women's omnium. I now wouldn't be surprised at 9 out of 10!

Currently, New Zealand are ahead of them on the Medal Table. If that stays the same they will never live it down.

The aussies are looking way off the mark. In the final of pursuitthey just tried to match GB and blew completely. They did not look right from the first round. McCulloch and Meares also looked off in the team sprint and today Meares looked very sluggish in her best event, the keirin, VP absolutely flew past her. I can only see the chineese and VP for the sprint they seem way faster than the rest.
Great rides by both GB pursuit teams. I thought women may get to 3:15 or just under, maybe they will in final.
Considerring G was ill last week he managed fine, Clancy and Burke were awesome with 1.5 lap changes and clancy doing 1.75 lap start. The whole team has peaked.
If the UCI had not fucked up and dropped scratch points individual pursuit and madddison, oh and limitted it to one rider per team we would get a stack more for sure, they are wankers for recking it to stop us winning too much.
Oh and I just saw athletics 10 00m with a couple of teams with three runners what the fuck is the difference?

Come up to builth and wath the welsh crit champs :D I just got back from velodrome training and watched the recorded cycling, awesome, but why dont he bbc leave it on one side, my 84 yeaold dad is not happy he has to keep changing sides to record for me :D I did not want to know results but the buggers in newpoort were watching on ipad so when the large cheer went up was obvious VP won, what a spoiler lol

Nope they dropped it as the UCI wanted to give equal events to the women which is why you see them now doing team sprint and keirin, but this meant they dropped the other events as they said there was not enough time, which is utter bollox as it has its own venure, just compare to swimming!! where you have 100m200m400m800m freestyle, breast stroke also all distances imaginable, back stroke, butterfly, individual medally, team relays for everything, I may have missed dogs paddle and floating also, oh and in addition to this can have multiple team members, unlike cycling where you can only have one now becuase we won too many medals in china.
I think they may reverse this and put a couple of them back in for Rio.

The IOC decide how many events each sport can have. The UCI suck, but they ve not got much room to move here. The only to add all those events for the men was to give the women less. I think the balance is pretty good tbh, although I think the road events were a bit superfluous but less so now

Went to the velodrome yesterday, had an absolutely brilliant day.

I got totally pulled into the whole patriotic fervour, hard not too though when Team GB were so impressive. The atmosphere was excellent, the noise when Team GB were racing was absolutely immense.

Can't really say anything that hasn't already been said about the performances, Team Pursuiters were phenomenal but my favourite performance had to be Vicky Pendleton, she absolutely dominated the Keirin, winning every round which takes both great legs but also great race craft.

Not sure what yopu mean by the balance is good ? In other sports the men and women have equal events same as cycling but they did not remove other events to achieve it, whats the point of removing most of the endurance events? It is now weighted towards sprinting. They brought in the omnium which is good for crowd to watch if they can understand it, but it is not one of the traditional endurance events.
Also by having only one rider per event makes the whole thing a mockery because whoever wins gold cannot claim they are the best in the world because not all the best riders rode each event. Chris Hoy cannot even defend his sprint title due to this rule, Varnish had no chance to Redeem herself due to this rule.
The mens sprint will be missing at least 6 of the worlds top sprinters any of these are capable to getting a medal.

wow it goes on, kenny breaks OR with 9.713sec flying 200m even more impressive was Clancy doing 12.556 for 250m, which is equiv of 10secs for 200m thats impressive for a pursuiter, no one withing 0.5 secs of his time. Hope he does a good points scratch and devil race and gets gold.
Looking forward to womens team pursuit to see if they get below 3:15
