Good God. Three medals in five minutes and two of them gold. (Shooting and canoeing).

That puts GB 5th on the medals table. WOW!

BRING ON THE TRACK EVENTS!!!!!!!!

Polish rider just pulled a foot out, there was a glimpse of him sitting down and it looked like the front of the cleat had snapped off.

How do those track shoes work?

is it a cleat and a strap?

    Yup.

Yeah. Tends to be very stiff road type shoes and pedals locked down tight, then a toe strap or two to add more security.

Often very old models! Tend to be much stiffer!

Was when I went to the test event (courtesy of Moomloid)

They've been making them hot for a while though.

It's all about how hard the wood is, the varnish, the track layout.

looked like a loose stem or something?! didn't seem to be steering properly!

Menchov would be proud of that

Good recovery! Must have been a horrible feeling being on a knackered bike with feet clipped and strapped being unable to steer to the barrier to stop. I guess all you can do is slow right down and hope you fall slowly.

I assume that's tongue in cheek?

I thought so too - but Jamie Staff has just suggested that was the case. Staff reckons he screwed up the start, got a wobble on and fell off to get the restart.

    Quick thinking.
  • This team sprint game - do the riders get to select their gearing, or is there "prescribed" gearing? And does the lead out person(s) run easier gearing than the anchor man/woman?
Swim. Bike. Run. Yeah. That's what I used to do.

    Bike 1
    Bike 2-A

In Obree's book he talks about a race where he unclipped/some part of the shoe pedal interface broke as he started a pursuit. He was horrified when he heard someone in the crowd yelling "Fall off!" at him, but only later realised if he had just ditched it in the first few metres he'd have got a restart. I guess these days they GB riders will all have this drilled into them, that if something goes wrong at the start they need to hit the deck.

    You pick your own gearing.

No idea for the 2nd Q.

I imagine the first rider probably would usually have a smaller gear
  • ProssPross Posts: 35,452
Messed up change? DQ for GB??
  • LichtblickLichtblick Posts: 1,434
Them bikes have no brakes? Unless they're hidden somewhere. No gears either AFAICS.

Cav's there. Commentating. He looks tiny compared with the tank-men.
  • whyamiherewhyamihere Posts: 7,617
No brakes, fixed gear. Makes it a hell of a lot safer.
  • ProssPross Posts: 35,452
It'll be a brave official that DQs the GB women from the final, crowd will go nuts!!

Especially odd as one of the graphics suggests that the Chinese have been DQ'ed too (a graphic showed Germany vs Australia for the gold medal race).

If it is a rule and they broke it, then I guess they should be DQ'ed, but surely if rider 2 comes through too early that's a disadvantage to them, not an advantage. It means that riders has their nose in the wind for longer.

Depends how quick your leadout is.

Latest is GB are NOT DQ'ed
