I did this today http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/125078 and apart from a 30 second bit on the third interval where I was trying to get comfy on the saddle, i've stuck to the power suggestions quite quite well - yet my heart rate has risen by 17 beats from end of interval 1 to end of interval 3, I'm presuming this is just down to a lack of conditioning on my part? Has to be said that 3 x 20 mins all done in aero position is tough!

As Mike said, an increase through the workout for your HR is not uncommon. This was my Eclipse not long ago and the third interval's finishing HR is higher than the first as well. I'd dropped cadence for the second, which is why the HR is generally lower through that one.

I've found my HR is a lower, more consistent reading as I've been working through the plan than when I first started, but I don't pay too much attention to it when actually riding. It's just another number to look at when I've finished

    Holy carp

Felt sh!te all day, Had a BIG lunch with some wine. Thought I'd better get on the turbo anyway to keep with the plan. After the warm up I decided I was feeling good so decided to stretch the legs a little.

Very pleased with the result, the legs are coming back. More importantly so is my ability to recover as evidenced by managing the last two intervals. Reckon a big FTP increase of as much as 10w in the offing in 3 weeks or so...

    FYI
There is actually a metric that Training Peaks shows for this Pwr:Hr

    Nice work.

First Sufferfest, after upping my FTP, did Angels and was good for the first 2 8 min efforts but then really struggled on the 3rd. Hopefully will be hitting all my targets next week.

I know, but I was still a little disappointed to be 12w down on the last target. Hopefully it was down to the slightly frisky commute I did on the way home only 30 mins before that caused it. Roll on next week's attempt.

I think TR needs a way of flagging workouts as favourites. You guys are posting up some interesting ones that I want to try, having to trawl the thread for the workout names gets a little tiresome.

    You can.

In TR, the workouts list has little stars top right for each workout. Check that and then they'll appear under the favourites tab in the workout section (under the search bar).

Thats me finished the ftp plan. rest tomorrow, long ride sat(change this week) then test on monday.

    Tueshttp://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/124164

    Wedhttp://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/125208

    Thurshttp://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/126094

Been very pleased with results from this plan-hopefully more to come on monday.
Also after early glitches with TR everything has worked very smoothly now for a good few weeks.

I've already sorted myself out a new ftp plan with similar style/makeup to the TR version but with slightly increased TSS scores (avg.TSS 83) Although i realise that as ftp raises then in theory repeating the same plan (at a higher ftp)should still produce results, i feel i want to push a bit more. Be interesting to see if i overcook it or continue to improve. One way to find out.

Who would have thought that just £6 per month staves off any motivational issues that seem to pervade quite a number of threads this time of year....
I havent actually being feeling top of the game for past 10 days but this morning used an amended Whaleback as a sort of hill repeater and came away with a little medal as a reward..

(2 workouts to my ton up since July.)

On the TR facebok page, the guys at TR have noted over 2000 custom workouts on their database... I've created about a dozen myself but thats some going... a newer release is close as well.

Cheers for that. Will try it later.

  • First day back on the turbo after 3 weeks away from home. New bike, HRM and new saddle made the return feel great, especially the saddle (Prologo Scratch). Actually felt very comfortable for a change.
It felt a bit too easy though, so will have retest at the end of the week when I finish week 3 of the Intermediate Base 1 plan.

    Be ready for Tioga then!

Was tired this morning having not slept well last night but still forced myself up and on the bike.

    Paid for it mind!

I'll be doing it tomorrow, I'm on nights now which doesn't help with recovery. I foresee some struggling tbh.

  • Can't wait to get started on TR - just waiting for my ANT+ stick to arrive (thought I was getting a good deal ordering from the States but it's taking ages).

Question about Sufferfest vids. How do people find them when while using TR and virtual power compared to PE/ HR?

Been off the bike with a chest infection for over a week now, going to try and ease back into things tomorrow night.

Plan now is to start one of the big 11 week plans in January.

  • Did another 8 minute test just now after 6 weeks away from TR.

    http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/128826

I rode a lot in November as I was working in Australia, so flew the bike out. However since returning two weeks ago I've done very little and have lost some fitness which I'm annoyed about. I wish I'd tested as soon as I got back to see the improvements I'd made.

Anyway tonight was a slog, but at least the FTP has gone up a bit. Now to get that fitness back. The Rapha Festive 500 should do it.

Family commitments meant I couldn't get out for a ride over the weekend so I did Galena on Sunday evening. Posted a 90 min PB, which was expected, but also a 30s PB for the sprint at the end :?: I think I might need to do one of the shorter tests to establish some proper sprint benchmarks.

http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/129380 was not easy... I nearly crumpled on interval5
    For next 3 weeks
    Crag
Whaleback and Guyat each week.. part of E3 power acceleration program.
Not much, you may say , entire workout to be done on the drops to improve power in that position.. :)

Tbh, I don't bother with the sprint efforts for comparison on the turbo, they are miles away from a true reflection. I can just touch 1000w on the turbo, 1400 on the road from a 20mph start.

Pretty much the same here as I never stand up on the turbo It just doesn`t seem right
  • First run on the new software version today.

Really like the little interval summaries you get now, although the trace does seem a little more sensitive following the update, so variation has increased a little (could just have been today's ride mind...).

Be warned if you are updating though - it looks like it carries over your profile and career, as well as your settings, but it doesn't carry over your favourites. If you have any 'bookmarked' any workouts as favourites, it might be worth making a note of them before updating.

Also using this pre pre beta .. doesnt seem to be synching very well with the website server at the minute, I am missing a few workouts altho the number has incrementd.
There is an interval summary after each formal interval which displays your % accuracy in keeping to the target... useful for steady staes but those that jump up and down the power range probably not too usefull a feature.
    Power smoothing does seem better.

Really? I find the opposite to be honest.

As I say, could just be today's ride, but THIS looks far more erratic (to me at least) than THIS even though they were both about the same in terms of consistency.
