Completed my first hour and a half session on the turbo, http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/130369, and things went ok. The time flew by supisingly quickly.
For some unknown reason the signal kept dropping out, leading to zero readings of cadence and heart rate, but the timer kept going and the signal would return after a few seconds. Everything appeared to be working on the Garmin head unit so I guess it must be something to do with the Ant+ usb stick or the Trainer Road software.

No problems with this at all and it is so small you can leave it plugged in all the time. It pairs with Garmin Cadence and HRM's too.0 -
Fair play to the guys at TR - a new update on the software this morning and lo and behold the issue with missing favourites is now fixed.0

I`m probably still running the first trainer road, how if it`s worth updating do I update :oops:0

1.3.6 is the latest version, which you can check in the 'Info' tab of the TR software.
If you aren't running that one you can download it from HERE and re-install.0 -
What resistance do you guys use your trainer on? (If it has variable resistance) i have a tacx sirrius, I set mine to 5 as I thought it gave a more realistic feel, however I end up using the higher gears mostly which isn't so realistic and results in a lower distance travelled/average speed, thinking of changing the settings to resistance 1.0

Guys .. keep your mobile phones away from your bike and your laptop if you are having problems with signal dropping. All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Been off the turbo for two and a half weeks with a poxy virus. What makes it more annoying is my new rock and roll trainer is all set up but has yet to have her virginity taken. She is going to get it royally as soon as I am better!
Bring on spring.0 -

True story - I used to use my phone to play music playlists and wondered why I was getting 60% signal strength with the laptop 3 feet away. Now I have completed building the pain cave and have removed the phone I am getting 90%.0 -

You smooth talking barstool
Had a bad week myself, sore throat and blocked face. So only a couple of mini sessions to try not to lose too much.
hopefully a couple more days and we're away again.
Hmm didn't have a cold for 4 yrs when i was 3 stone heavier...Death or Glory- Just another Story0 -
Got my Ant+ stick and did the 8 minute test. New FTP is 279.

Planning on trying out a sufferfest video over the weekend before starting the Intermediate Base I plan. Is there anything I should be looking at/ analysing while I'm off the trainer?0 -
Tried the 8 minute test today to get my starting point for the Intermediate Base plan.
Not sure if it's a good or bad result, had to stop at one point early on because the postman came knocking bu tother than that it was pretty straightforward!
Once I'm back after Christmas I'll get stuck into it properly.0 -
PALMER
Blinking heck this was hard
I shall henceforwrd rename this the Trainer Road CHAINGANG as this was as close as you going to feel being on one.
OK, you dont spend 2 minutes on the front in normal circumstances but the 10 intervals abbreviate lets say a 25 miler .
As you can see by the last interval I was told to eff off to the back as I was slowing everyone down...0 -
Simmotino wrote:Clark for me this morning. The sprint drills were a nice change although I was breathing out of my ears come the final interval!
Picked up a few medals though, which is always nice in a completely insignificant kinda way, including 939 for the 5sec measure.
Great effort!
I have the jet fluid pro and think my legs would fall off if I hit >900 watts!
I did Galena today - http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/133485
Struggled a bit, have recently changed from mtb shoes and speedplay frogs to 'real' road shoes and speedplay zeros - still getting used to them (thats my excuse!).0 -
Finally got back on the turbo after shaking off a virus. Did the 20 minute test on the new rock and roll and FTP has gone from 165 to 191 and power to weight ratio is up to 2.89.
My heart rate registered 200 at the end of the session (I've never seen it above 195 before) and I was sick in my mouth - Happy days!
Glad to see the FTP going the right way but do feel that the shift was increased by switching turbo's. Starting the intermediate base now and targeting ftp above 200 and 3.00 PWR.0 -
Nice to see lots of 90 minute sessions today, did Antelope myself, http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/133922, felt weak getting off the bike after that, but looking forward to next week now.
Had to stand up a few times because of NNS, hence the drops in cadence in a few places.0 -
Quick question,
Which training plan would people suggest for someone wanting to train for a 12h mountain bike race?
I'm guessing something like the Intermediate Base plan then the Novice Century, either high or low volume.
Any better suggestions?0 -
When quoting new FTP test scores can we all mention FTP/kg as well please?
Im not enjoying how many people are putting more power out now.All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

Did first sufferfest video with TR today - The Hunted. Found a big difference maintaining power as compared to HR/ perceived effort, especially towards the end of an interval.
http://www.trainerroad.com/cycling/rides/1336030 -
How often do people re test? I mentioned recently that after a month of riding in oz I'd taken a couple of weeks off and lost some fitness. An 8 min test put my FTP up to 307 (4.14FTP/kg), however I was expecting more of an improvement. I've since started the experienced century high volume plan and after a week my legs feel good again. So, should I re test or let it go for a whie?0

yes, but try explaining that to the HR zonerz and more often that not you'll get a quizzical, sympathetic look back and a gentle pat on the shoulders saying 'there, there , it'll be all right when you are back with us ... '0 -

Its made me realise there's a large 'blind spot' when using HR on the Turbo. Its no coincidence that I clocked my highest average speed for this video the first time I've used power as a gauge.0 -

The Intermediate Base would be a good 'foundation' plan to get under your belt, maybe with an extra sweet spit ride on the Wednesday for the second half if the plan.
The logical next plan would be Base II, but I think Novice Century would be more appropriate. Just be careful not to increase training load by too much, too quickly.0 -
Just done Baxter.

First 90 minute trainer ride for a long time. Some good instructions about cadence, breathing and pedalling technique. Would have been a really dull one to do outside TR.0 -
Did Goodale today, tried to get a couple of turbos in the last few day after shaking the chest infection but really found it hard today. Lost count how many times i almost gave up.

Didn't help that when i started i was sure it was 120mins and not 150 lol0 -

If you haven't failed a test and are adding lots of Watts to your FTP, then re-test, otherwise your FTP isn't set right. The first time you blow up and fail to complete an FTP test (at a pace that would see you improve it by just a couple of percent or <10W) then you'll know it's set right. All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!
