  • I’m doing this from both sides on Saturday as part of a 120 mile ride

    http://www.strava.com/segments/cairn-o- ... uth-620890

Haven’t done it in over a year and the last time I did it I tasted blood in my lungs. I think it gets a 9/10 in the 100 Greatest Climbs.

I’ve noticed that one of the guys who’s ridden it recently is a chap that I consider to be very handy on the hills – he’s only managed 7.4mph!!!

Joined the bike radar club. but using the android app till I get a Garmin. I don't want to sellotape my phone to my stem though, so probably wont bother till then.

Just ride with the phone in your pocket, why would you need to put it on your stem?

Why do people create segments that go through traffic light junctions? There was a new segment on my commute the other day that had a very busy signal junction in the middle (segment was only 500m). I went to flag it as hazardous but it had already been done. It should be deleted altogether but I really can't see why anyone would create it in the first place. That said I sometimes find the segment comes out different to what I have created on the screen so maybe they were trying to do a sprint between two sets of lights (still pointless and dangerous though).

Can Strava not come up with a way of only giving KOM’s on routes where you actually go up a decent gradient and anything under say 150ft is classed as a Sprint Stage or TT? Or do they do this already and I just haven’t noticed? I’ve seen KOM’s with a elevation of 8ft!

I'd agree with that, Strava already categorises climbs so a KOM should only apply to anything that has a category otherwise they should just call you 'segment leader' even though this would mean I'd have no KOMs!

What is it with Strava and people.

Anyway I notice a few segments he's got KOM on, and they're on one of my commuter back from someones house I visit regulary, so I thought, might as well have a go at them as they'd be good short intervals, and I KOM them so he called me a "sad stalker".

What is it with verbal warfare on this site, I'm getting tempted to delete my Strava account.

Do what I do ... cycle a bit slower and don't get any KOM's - nobody bothers with you then ... ;)

Looks like it levels off at halfway, giving time to rest or make some time up

Hoping that the riders in my area are honest. I'm climbing ranks slowly and it's encouraging. That said I like to beat my own times more, and beat myself up the hills (rude comments will be giggled at). Some of the riders are going at crazy speeds along one stretch but having hit 19mph myself I can easily see how others are hitting 25+.

I flagged a ride the other day - it was 45mph along a 1mile flat section ... unlikely to start with - looked at the whole ride and he'd done 70 miles in 1hr 20 ... max speed 85 mph ... ;)
It isn't difficult to NOT upload a motorised ride ... so why do it?

Some wankar has clearly flagged a ride of mine and got the actual ride deleted. I hope he burns in hell for eternity.

Upload it again and redo the segment if you still have the original file.

Why does it randomly create segments?

Did my usual ride home yesterday and when I downloaded the route Strava had created a segment of which I was the only one that had ridden it, therefore I was KOM. :D

However, when I looked a hour or so later it had pulled in other rides and I had dropped to about 10th!!

First time , Strava stopped by itself, 30 miles from base. Phone was in a hard case so probably that had something to do with it.
Why I bother coming back thru Alsager, God only knows, yes Yossie

It's just takes a while to check for all the rides that have done the segment.

My KOM taking days in Manchester are numbered, I'm moving back to Selby, and I will get my local KOM's back.

Kudos from everyone if someone goes out and cycles a ride that looks like a 10 mile high c*ck & balls on the map thumbnail!

No KOM .. but I set up a segment in our town which I think is the only Category 2 climb in the area .. I had to stop briefly for lights at a temporary roadworks, and it was windy so it was hard work. I can probably think up some more excuses .. but it's a benchmark!

    http://app.strava.com/segments/2077229

Oh yeh, I had to jump two gates, and slow for some cows as I wasn't sure if they'd gore me!

  • No KOM's for me either, but a respectable 13th placing on the south climb of Cairn O'Mount

    http://app.strava.com/segments/620890

and 17th on the north climb

    http://app.strava.com/segments/2076497

The latter was into a withering, cold headwind but I was dripping sweat. Good fun though ;-)

2005m of climbing in 109 miles (was meant to be 120 but we misjudged the route).

Nice climbing, well in the red on the first! You've no shortage of nice roads to climb where you are!

That was a big ride. o_O

Tunnel vision moment on the brutal final hairpin  The climb up the north side is long and relentless and you need to cycle up three long 14% sections before you get to the start, but I'd take that before doing the south side again. It just aint fun!

    It's The Lecht next month...

Snow gates on both sides and snow poles all the way up!
