Important question is how can Porte and Froome descend? Wiggins could either get distanced or isolated if they struggle. EBH descending well won’t really cut it.

Would say Evans definitely gains an advantage from his race craft – the parcours may look sh*te, but there are still plenty of opps to make an ambush.

Any stages you had in mind for this?

Any with descents near the finish or that lead quickly into another climb! Guess you wouldn't necessarily call a downhill attack an ambush though.

BMC are more likely to send people up the road than Sky which could set something up for Evans and I reckon he has a decent chance of putting time into Wiggins in the following stages:

1 - finish on a cat 4 - unlikely to be gaps, but possible
3 - lumpy finish suited to puncheurs
7 - final climb is reasonably short
8 - col de la croix is a short steep climb and may have a technical descent to match, but not sure
10 - Sky struggled on the grand colombier descent
16 - technical descent off the peyresourde

Couple of potentially windy coastal stages too, but Wiggins and Evans should both be ok in these. Evans was caught out in crosswinds by Sky before, but doubt he'll make the same mistake in the tour.

Didn't know Froome was a mountain biker.
Is there a growing trend for successful switching of codes - Evans, Sagan, Ryder H, and Froome. Are there others?
Fuglsang, Peraud and Cioni. Peraud still does quite a bit - he's doing it at the Olympics.
This month's Cycle Sport has a 'top ten ex-MTBers' feature.
On French cycling forums, Peraud has had some criticism for trying to train for the Olympics, and still competing in road races, as if the two weren’t compatible or his mind isn't there during the road race.
He finished over 30 mins down in the Dauphine.

Froome is an excellent descender - he followed the Movistar downhill attacks at the Vuelta where Wiggins couldn't. Porte has looked awful. Wiggins follow Froome, or EBH if he's there, and he'll be fine.
So essentially the pecking order of descending abilities goes 1. Cross country skier (EBH), 2. Mountain biker (Froome), 3. Trackie (Wiggins), 4. Triathlete (Porte).
    Makes sense.
Where do those who downhill ski (Ullrich - actually he does ski tours, meaning he climbs up with skis on too) and those who come from cyclocross (Lars Boom) fit in this scheme of things?

And those who also like to ride motorbikes up and down passes (Wegmann)?
