Starting tomorrow. The one thing it's got on the Giro is at least it's in HD!

No passport controls and no doping controls are 2 different things.

  • Normally I love watching cycling that much I would watch a dead dog cycling up a hill. However the Tour of Cali doesn't float my boat! I think it's cos it's in America and I seem to have an inbuilt anti american things going on for a good few years now.

It's 'cos it lacks the prestige of being on the PTP calendar, innit.

Wouldn't know this race was coming up if Iain hadnt mentioned it. Goes to show. I'd know if there was a short stage race in Spain coming up though.

This race has provided almost zero excitement over the years. They should take a leaf out of Battenkill's book to spice it up.

Last year I watched the tour of California on my telly, live. I think it was on itv4 and coverage began around eleven pm. This was perfect for all kinds of reasons, not least of which because it was after my wife had gone to bed so did not pi@@ her off. Why is it not on freeview this year?

Or is it and I've not spotted it yet?

Well, there's not a lot on telly at 10.30pm and as I'm off work laid up I reckon I'll give it a whirl.

It's not on ITV4. However, the ToC broadcast it via their rather good website. A direct link to their 'Tour Tracker': http://radioshacktourtracker.amgentourofcalifornia.com/

Is that cos you had that same problem as me when you tried to press for ITV4 you always got "Babestation" 8) watching cycling this late has its positives..Of course me being a good Catholic boy taped the cycling and watched a bit of the God Channel.

I will be watching closely to spot the difference between Eurosport's "fake" HD and the real McCoy from the US of A.
Nice to have a bit of late night live cycling. Usually good for the bigger forums to banter over; a meeting across the waters and all that.
Decent coverage of the main stages, too. A bit skimpy, mid-week.

No blood tests, so they will be taking the wee-wee.
Just so long as grandad's is deep purple.:P

Those racing: Horner, TJVG, Talansky, Zabriske, Danielson, Duarte, Sagan etc (maybe Levi and Gesink)
Those not: Nibali, Boonan, probably Sanchez.

And they use feet/miles for the stages/profiles. I know the race goes high, but the profiles on the website make it look like they're climbing everest based on the scales used.

I used to love it when it was on in Feb as it got me excited about proper races coming up.

Exactly - looking at the profiles you would think it a climbers dream...

Tracker live feed is running, but it's very poor at the moment:

It's really annoying me that I can't hear any sound from the road, it's just a video feed. Missing that comforting sound of a helicopter or buzz of a moped.... :(

Much better than the 'HD' coming from the Giro which seems to be just upscaled standard definition.

I wish all cyling was shown like this as it does make a difference.

AToC is broadcast in HD, so it's real HD on ES. They do something on ES HD which makes the picture look a bit better but as you say, it's not HD.

I think RAI have an HD channel now, so hopefully in the future the RCS races will look nicer.

Must be me. I can't see a lot of difference.
