what do you wear on flats. I know this should warrant a new thread. But it is a off beat question, have been thinking about the adidas climacool boat lace.

    Get yourself some 5.10s.

First two rides of my first proper mountain bike (ie non Apollo) and first distances further than the end of the street in many a year. 6.3 miles of Herrington Country Park in County Durham with my first Strava segment followed by 5.3 miles along the coast at Whitburn (north of Sunderland). Not massive distances compared to what everyone else in this thread rides, nor the toughest terrain but a big step in the right direction for my fitness.

Did Follow the Dog at Cannock Chase yesterday - had a really good ride, and I'm looking forward to hitting the Monkey Trail soon.

Rode with a couple of new people yesterday guiding a friend on some Whistler trails - morning loop around Duncan's/It Business Time which is a super fun trail at the south end of the valley, then drove to north end of valley with lunch on the way and rode Howler - super fun trail but to get the super fun had to ride up a looooong fireroad climb in the rain. I'm going to say the descent was worth it but I wont be doing it again in a hurry!

Aye, so I saw on Strava :) I was planning a wander around there this week but went and did my neck in again wondering what that bright yellow thing in the sky was.

Last night I ran a quick lap of BC's above Creekside - 45-50 min loop

Then tonight I smashed out a quick 14k on some Whistler classics (Cut Ya Bars and River Runs Through It) - passed a bear on River which was sat in the river that the trail gets its name from and didn't bother me at all but then I got on the valley trail and passed a family of Canada Geese, one of which got a bit agro and chased me down the trail honking and hissing at me! Geese trump bears for aggression!

Salisbury Plain. Recently discovered this playground which is less than a 15 minute car ride away. All the tank activity there makes for some interesting features. Looks like they have some intense fun mashing up the ground in some places.

Just back from a weekend in the Okanagan visiting friends. Got in a leisurely road ride with a friend (leisurely for me, he is fat and unfit) followed by a leisurely mtb ride with two friends (again they are both fat and unfit so less leisurely for them) and then a ride on a converted railway track so gentle terrain but great scenery - 40k loop.

2 ride day today - morning jolly with a friend, giving her some riding tips and a rabbit to follow on some more technical stuff which was fun although I noticed how much harder it is to ride the technical stuff at lower speeds!

Second ride in the early evening was a fun blast on a good little local loop - 99er, Middle Danimal, A La Mode to 3 Birds and then AC/DC to the road and up again to Danimal North. Excellent terrain and aside from the opening step into the rocks on AC/DC I cleaned it for the first time.

Full day at work tomorrow so commute to and from may be my only rides - might have to take the long way home!

I seem to be the only person posting on here, possibly because riding in Whistler is super awesome. Started a new job last week, been commuting in and every other day doing a bit of a detour home.

Did an evening ride with some friends, leading them around River Runs Through It, a classic old school whistler trail. This evening I rode up Blackcomb a little ways and rode Roaming in the Loam and Golden Boner - short but sweet lap to finish a working week. Toonie ride tomorrow night and might try and explore Squamish one day this week too.

Many, many miles around Salisbury Plain. Nice ride and an unusual sight of a young (30ish) lady out walking topless! Miles from anywhere, probably didn't expect to see anyone else out!
Mid ride pint was still the highlight though :-)

2 ride day yesterday interspersed with some bike maintenance - an easy lost lake cruise (think blue welsh trail centre style riding but more undulating over one long climb and descent) with a friend and then the Thursday Toonie ride in the evening.

The Toonies here are great, the rides themselves can be frustrating if you dont find a good position in the pack, last nights was bad for me, got stuck in a stop starting group on the first singletrack section and then spent the rest of the ride being held up on both the ups and downs but a good route none the less. Followed by some good food and in theory a beer but in practice the queue for beer was too long to bother.

Off to Squamish today to ride some trails there - probably sticking to flow trails with the friend I am heading down with.

Black Mountain Cycle Centre today. Excellent place, great trails, well maintained, well built and we'll run. There's some big old jumps there, a thirty foot gap was described as "that little un"
Definitely worth a visit, but not on an xc bike.

A few quick laps of the Miner's Trail at Sandwell Valley Country Park yesterday. Conditions were surprisingly good given the amount of rain we had on Saturday. The morons blocking the trail (including one woman walking her dog the wrong way along the clearly marked "bikes only" trail, the moron sat on a rock on one side of the trail with his feet resting on the rock on the other side of the trail, and the moron stood in the middle of the trail taking a photo of something off to the side) were a minor pain, but other than that, a nice little blast. My new V12s are great (although I've managed to scratch one of them already :( ), and my Spoon is much comfier than my old saddle.

3 days in Wales, 2 in Coed Y Brenin smashing out Tarw Du, MBR, Cyflym Coch and also The Minotaur 5 times (just so fast and fun). Definitely showed me i need a full sus - two pinch flats, pringled rear wheel and a few broken spokes!

Quick post lap ride - Up Blackcomb mtn to Hey Bud, a super fun loamy monster, looped back up to Golden Boner and Roaming in the Loam - a mix of rocks slabs, loose sand and gravel and a smidge of nice dirt, down the classis magic trail to the village and out to Cut Ya Bars - an old school classic. I was thrashing myself something rotten and got a whole mess of PR's on both the ups and downs. Not that I care about Strava. Not at all. It's lame.

Did a quick evening ride with a mate on Tuesday which was good but a little frustrating due to my own perceived skills deficits. Gotta learn how to do better wheelie drops on steep slopes - doing some steep rock rolls which end in steepening to flat sections and struggling to get the wheel up to allow the bike to drop to the flat instead of rolling down the face and having to deal with the heavy front end hit.

Went out today and did a hard ride on some steep and tricky trails and did a little better in similar circumstances - might have to track down a mtb coach friend of mine and get some advice or a skills refresher.

Just had a week in North Wales with work. Managed 3 full days riding whilst getting paid for it, did 2 at Coed-y-Brenin and another at Llandegla. Had a great time, especially enjoyed the b line.

Rode Pitfichie, Aberdeenshire for the first time in a few years with a mate on Friday afternoon. Got left behind on both the uphill and downhill, not due to inferior fitness I've convinced myself, but to the fact my 26" wheels don't roll as quick as his 27.5" ones!

New bike can't come soon enough!

Salisbury Plain. Buzzed by a Chinook helicopter at somewhere between 50 and a 100 feet. Close enough to feel the wind off the rotors and clearly see the face of the guy waving from the door. Absolutely awesome. Ten minutes later charged by a bull. He was close and was setting quite a pace, so that required some "Oh sh!t!"emergency peddling. Finished off with a perfect rainbow framing Sidbury Hill. One of my best rides ever!

Lovely ride in the wet, along the Newport to Stafford route 55 to start, into the secret woods rode the normal trail 3 times then did some exploring - found a section of beautiful loamy descent and rode it many a time. Top notch. Heres a photo:

Bit delayed but rode Cannock on Sunday. Didn't find it as boring or bad as some make out but was my first visit. Coil felt pretty good with a mix of climbs and descents. Even the climb mode was pretty compliant downhill when I forgot to switch it across. The Nomad is definitely too much bike for the trails there but as my choices were that or the Hardtail at the moment I went for travel, plus it was good to try out the coil somewhere new.

Also did a quick detour to look for and eventually found Style Cop for a few runs on the red section there. Stayed off the black runs while my arm is still under rehab but still was able to test it with a few higher speed 4ft drops on the red without causing it much issue so all good. If you like gaps, big drops and wall rides then worth a look.

Great vid. Looks like a great ride. I actually felt a bit wheezy when you were so close to the cliff edge (could be my dinner though). Especially enjoyed the wipeout! what camera are you using?
It matters not, win or lose, it's how you ride the bike
  • did a last bit of training before my C2C next week.

Did 2 hours ride in torrential rain, didnt bring my waterproofs so was drenched after 15 mins. Was still fun though as was warm enough.

Did notice lots of new 'no cycling' signs on my route, tried to rip the f**kers off but couldnt. Dont see the issue as long as we are respectful of others, i've been riding these routes for over 20 years and then some old fart decides to complain and stop us enjoying the local area.
