Where did you ride today?

Pretty riding trails before they get taped for the race is quite often a waste. Race organisers usually alter a track in a few places to catch out the locals and make it better suited to racing.
I raced on my local trails last year and had a huge crash when I rode flat out around a blind bend to find the usual road gap was closed and there was a tight turn in to a new line.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Just on my doorstep in richmond today.

Avoided doing the Toonie thursday night ride in Whistler yesterday due to inclement weather and the remnants of a cold seeming a bad combo but the clouds broke this morning so I went and did the loop today instead - 22k/650m elevation gain, few PR's. Nice.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0

Rode my local evening loop with a friend this evening (I frequently ride it alone) - crashed pretty hard and smashed my helmet to bits on a rock. I'm thinking twice about riding alone now really... I mean, I got up and was okay, but I'm pretty sure I got a slight concussion, and I had to walk myself down the rest of the trail as I wasn't comfortable continuing riding with the state my helmet was in... Helmet very much did its job though, would have been a VERY different story if I'd not been wearing one, and it could easily have been much worse if I had fallen a little differently whilst wearing the lid. Just makes me think how I take things for granted on my home trails... They're no less dangerous than anything else though.
Be safe out there, guys.

Just a couple hours around the local trails this morning but the trails are in top condition. Every time I get out on my Transition I just end up grinning like an idiot and today was no different.
Only fell off once as well :-)Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Not today but Wednesday I rode the DH trails at Hamsterly. I'll admit to being a little scared and slightly out of my depth but finished grinning like an idiot and was getting better as I went.0

Ilovedirt, unlucky, hope you are ok, take it easy for a couple of days!!
I rode the wall and penhydd (well most of it missed out the climb up beyond the blue scar junction and went straight over to sidewinder) this morning. Really good ride, racing the next couple of weekends so wanted to push a bit to test fitness. Being a strava obsessive I managed a fair few pb's and a few top 10s so feeling pretty pleased. I expect i will still do atrociously racing but at least I feel on form - although maybe that's a bad thing as i have no excuses!0 -
Local loop round wetheral woods 30km in total. 9 strava trophy's aswell improveing a lot after getting the new forks dialled in. have been a big confidence boost.SHUT UP AND RIDE!!!

Commuting into work once a week now when the weather is favourable. Around 35 - 40 mile round trip depending on whether the MoD ranges are open or closed for firing in the mornings which means a bit of extra road and a longer route. All fun on the Nomad running Minions including a 10% road climb grind which can't be avoided and I could just take the Hardtail but it's good fitness and the ride home with more off-road is just more fun on the Nomad. Once the Aeris arrives I will use this more to commute in.
I have found what looks like an unadapted road linking to some fire roads around some of the ranges which would cut out some more road out should the ranges be closed so will investigating.
No riding planned today but should be out tomorrow and out for lunchtime ride at work on Tuesday with the Hardtail. A few of us get out once or twice a week now at the office for a 10 mile loop and having a shower there makes it really handy.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -

A nice 20 mile loop around local bridleways taking in coxley woods and a few other places. Still didn't end up where I wanted to mind due to getting lost a few times.
If anyone knows the loop from Pugneys to horbury bridge through coxley woods past emley moor then to NCM then through another wood and back to wakefield I would love to know. Did it once loved it. Can't remember the whole route, now trying to recreate it i always get lost.
But anyway pics.
I only see one Giant here and not the 330m behemoth that people from up north should know. Only a few miles away lost.
Coxley woods still lost but photos don't do it justice as to how steep it is.

On Saturday I did an Audax on a Hybrid - given the state of the roads out here much of this was rougher than a fire road, the event was 125miles and I had a few transit miles each end making a total of just under 135miles.

Guy I was riding with was struggling a bit which is why our speed got a bit patchy after the first 75km, really hot (this was overnight and it still barely dropped below mid 20's) and I went through 5.5 litres without needing a 'comfort break'. Finished in really good shape, the legs had plenty left in them, but if I do it again I may use a Spoon with its slightly thicker padding rather than the knife as the muscles over the sit bones were complaining a bit by the end.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -

First ride of the season...great to be back!
A decent climb of about 600m and a nasty (but nice) little decent called The Mines...baby heads, gullies, slippery wet slate, razor sharp flint, loose rocks and all very steep and fast....love it!

Triscombe downhill trails today. Free uplift and barbecue provided by Wideopen mag.
Had fun riding with a group ranging from beginner to elite downhill world cup rider. Found out that downhill bikes don't work too well on gravity enduro tracks. Also discovered that although pro racers can ride slower to be more sociable in a group I still don't have the talent to follow their lines.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Red phoenix trail at mabie forest 7 stanes. Took 1h49mins not bad tbh. Especially after a wrong turn and the world's heaviest pack and full waterproofs expecting it to piss down... then the sun came out. Had some good fun and two crashes but both me and the bike are In good shape.SHUT UP AND RIDE!!!

Deepcut and Tunnel Hill loop this morning and was one of those rides where everything felt good and was flying through the downs and tech.
Very nearly went all wrong on one section which is a series of berms and pop jumps which picks up speed if you are dialled in and get into the flow. Was looking to send it off a bit of a rock launch pad near the bottom when I spied something at head height across the trail so aborted and swerved to the side and had to duck under a section of rope across the trail at an angle.
On inspection it was a rope bridge across the trail, dark green in colour, so virtually invisible. Further down I could see some tents and the rest of the trail converted into some form of obstacle course obviously down by the army or TA. Had I have taken the jump then I would have taken that rope across my neck mid air which would not have turned out well so I feel lucky for the last minute spot.
Other than that I showed a couple of guys around on the back half of my ride and no more close calls with rope.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0 -
Ventured out to ride around Minley and Hawley woods.
Not the most technical nor a lot of major climbs but enjoyable all the same.
I stuck to a simple rule that if I saw a single track entrance into the woods then I had to take it and so found a lot of stuff I had not ridden before
Called it a day after about 18 miles and with a smile on my face.0 -
Local routes and exploring around Newmillerdam, found some routes I want to explore more but solo and with some angry music.
It was only a very steady 15 miler.
Took the other half with me, And made the mistake of laughing at her when I seen her on the floor, fair to say it was a silent ride back. Then I found out what happened and couldn't help but laugh more, she went to mount the bike caught her foot on the top tube then lost all balance. Feel mean after seeing the bruise on her hand but come on haha.......
And me.....stood in a weird pose

Racing at coed y brenin yesterday. Great fun, first time I've been up there. Nice course two, the first half was mainly fireroad apart from one narrow climb but then the second half was all technical. Good to have a bit of space before hitting the difficult bits. Was soaking wet and I was a bit sketched by the sheet rock sections with a veneer of water running over them as never ridden anything like that but all good experience!0

More Whistler riding today - quickish loop with a mate this morning, fun ride including AC/DC which has a few good sized and challenging rock rolls. Thrown something out in my back giving the bike a bit of a heave through a rocky corner. Hopefully sorts itself out quick, there is riding to be done!
Quick shot of a ride buddy dealing with one of the rock drops. Poor quality shot, burst mode on my mobile and then cropped a bit.

First two rides of my first proper mountain bike (ie non Apollo) and first distances further than the end of the street in many a year. 6.3 miles of Herrington Country Park in County Durham with my first Strava segment followed by 5.3 miles along the coast at Whitburn (north of Sunderland). Not massive distances compared to what everyone else in this thread rides, nor the toughest terrain but a big step in the right direction for my fitness.

Trainer socks do they count? Only got 3/4 baggys for now. Looking for some shorter ones and a big must is dedicated shoes, always buy trainers that double up as casual and for MTB/commute duties. So go through a fair few to avoid the smell. Not going to go clip less any time soon, other than etnies and the boot style what do you wear on flats. I know this should warrant a new thread. But it is a off beat question, have been thinking about the adidas climacool boat lace.0 -
Did a couple of great trails in Pemberton today - seemed scorchingly hot (mid to high 20's) in the sun and dry and dusty especially on Brake Away and Lumpy's where I spent the ride eating my mates dust. If anyone is ever over this way and wants a cracking trail to ride I heartily recommend Fat Tug in Pemby - wicked mix of steep twisting turns, rock rolls and jumps.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0

Today's adventure was a f**k long climb to the top of Microclimate which featured as a stage of the EWS in Whistler last year and in the North American Enduro Series last weekend - not ridden it before and its a superb ride - some steep, some flow, a ton of loam and roots, fantastic - the climb up took about an hour, 20 mins down.
We then went up Yummy Numby, another 30 or so minutes climbing on semi tech singletrack followed by 30 minutes or so of rock rolls and roots on an undulating delight of a trail.
Total ride around 15k with 880m climbing. In the sunshine, 20+ degrees. Followed by a couple of pints and a bite to eat on the deck watching the GLC drop. Great day. But I should probably get a job sometime soon as I seem to post something on here everyday!Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0 -
