I did a good 30 - 40 mins of climbing before the first descent, which was 2 - 3mins
The climbing was boring though. Straight wide fire roads.
Don't forget that the Marin was one of the first trail centres in the country, and IMO is still as good as most of the newer ones, if not better! (certainly miles better than degla - give it another go)0 -

you wont hear me complaining about technical climbing. One of the reasons i like Gisburn so much.
True about Degla. I guess i go so often i dont really think about it that much.0 -
Fair enough, to each their own. I quite like being able to just spin up a fire road and then drop into a nice bit of singletrack. I think because the marin is quite an old trail too, the descents are a bit steeper and don't last as long as some of the more modern trail centres, but then i find some of them annoyingly pedally sometimes.0

First time in Wales today - on a bit of a road trip with the missus. Bloody hard work on the Twrch trail but some great fun coming down. Managed to overshoot a berm (I've been riding a year so still dialling in the basics...) and scrape myself up, but should be okay for BPW tomorrow. Cant wait, but will definitely try to reign in the speed I think... at first anyway!0

My local trails are not very technical at all, quite the opposite, but I do love to ride there, such great scenery. This is Apedale and Silverdale. I keep finding different little routes every time I go out. I also fell off in a ditch this week but probably says more about my riding then difficulty.
I'm planning couple of decent rides further afield in the summer instead of the usual trips to Cannock. I'll be using some of the posts here for inspiration

A nice leisurely ride around Derwent Reservoir for me today. I tried to cross the stream and I didn't realise how deep it actually was until I was knee deep in it and I couldn't pedal. It was good fun though!0

Had a great little ride on the Singlespeed, had my little boy on the back, into Fleet town for a Coffee stop, and along the Basingstoke canal, he really enjoyed it.0

Marin trail today, set a ton of PBs on strava, putting that down to the new bike!
Yesterday I did a little one up some of the local hills. Only 15km, but a lot of climbing! Cannot complain about the views though!
This is where I stopped for a break, top of Moel Wnion. I *think* snowdon may be the peak you can see poking up behind the rest at the very back
Yep, that's anglesey over there
Towards Conwy
Towards Caernarfon
Hit up one of the local downhill trails on the way back down, this thing corners on rails! Loving the new bike!0 -
Rode Triscombe downhill trails today. As usual the trails were awesome and scary fast, the locals are too fast (they kept up with a visiting world cup dh racer!) and Brendons track was as steep, loose and technical as always.
I went home smiling but with a little less blood and skin.
Two bikes on the uplift cracked frames today, both were Intense frames! If a frame is weak Triscombe will break it.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
Velo Vert Festival DH Marathon
Good fun, like a mini-Megavalanche.
In the quali made it down 31st out of 90 finishers so got through to the final.
In the final came down 70th out of 164 finishers but 11th out of 30 in my age category...I'll take that
Full on racing, hard work but great fun...bring on the Mega!"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

PORC! Well, yesterday. That place is phenomenal and rather full of extremely good tots...0
-
Quick hour or so round Tandle Hill on the HT. It was pissing it down when I set off, so I went in just baggies and a shirt sleeve jersey so I didn't have to clean my jacket. Proper soggy, sloggy mudfest. i had to hose myself off when I got home. Great fun.0

Fast loop in Whistler valley - off to bike park for evening session.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0
-
Chopwell Woods, got some strange looks on the way back, maybe because I was caked in mud.
Hosed down self, bike and clothes when I got back.I used to just ride my bike to work but now I find myself going out looking for bigger and bigger hills.0 -
Probably my favourite local loop. About 30km with a bit of everything...

Lee, them over to Cragg, then explored for a bit and ended up in the windfarm. Manchester is in the background, looking resplendent.0 -
Two lakes ride from Capel Curig today, weather managed to stay good, hooray!0
-
I rode the Batch Burner on Saturday. 48k and 1250m on the Long Mynd, I was shattered but it was really good.0
-
37km around Hayfield inc. Jacobs Ladder yesterday.
Awesome as ever and bloody knackering, sacrificed my rear shock though. Note to self - don't leave it in lockout mode and try to descend big rocky drops down the PBW, seals will break.0 -
A quick 10 mile ride around on the roads before the lovely rain started. I'm still trying to find some decent trails around my neck of the woods but not having muck luck so it's just road riding at the minutes0

Unless your location of 'West Yorkshire' is a lie, then you need glasses because there's quite a few hills round this way.
Where specifically in West Yorkshire?0 -

Was thinking that myself. A 10 mile ride and no trails within that distance in West Yorkshire? Really? All the gear, no idea and loving the smell of jealousy in the morning.

Pontefract. I've used different websites and google etc and can't find anything. The only half decent bit of off road is Pontefract Race Course. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be over the moon!
This part of West Yorkshire is relatively flat compared to the likes of Bradford, Huddersfield, Halifax.0 -

Yeah ok, Pontefract is right on the edge of West Yorkshire, the wrong side.
http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php - have a view, see what routes you could do, there are some routes in Southern leeds, nearer Wakefield or Dewsbury, still 15-20mile away though.0 -
Thank you
It's very flat but I'll just put the bike in the car and drive to Leeds, Dewsbury etc.0
