Where did you ride today?

Today I tried my first ever 50 mile plus ride, on my mountain bike- in the wet on the road (mostly although 16 miles was towpath)

Honestly, it was the hardest thing I have ever voluntarily done. I rode from midsomer norton to bath, out to Devizes via the canal and then back on the roads through Trowbridge in the wettest conditions since Noah.

I knew it would be testing but I hadn't factored in what happens to your legs once they've had enough! Luckily a truck stop took pity on me and fed me up at the 32 mile stage despite me only having a card and them not taking them, and I can recommend the flap jack at avon cliff which came at a point when it was all still a bit exciting and doable! I was doing it to get some fitness back so I'd be fitter for the me mendips if they ever come back into condition.

It got to the stage where riding was so uncomfortable I liked the uphills so I could get off and walk!

Did the route of the North Down Coastal Challenge (100k) in 4hrs. First 40 miles were grand, last 20 tough enough slog thanks to wind & rain moving in but first long cycle of the year and all went well.

Bonding well with my new bike too, opted for a Meridia Ride 93 - my first carbon road bike. Goes like a dream.

Inglebrough Yorkshire. A touch snowy the wheels kept jamming with snow but the last blast down into Clapham was worth the slipping, sliding and swearing.

33km of the local Tandle Hill / Chadderton Heights loops. I'm now officially addicted to Strava.

I also drove up The Rake in Ramsbottom to assess the feasibility of tackling it on the FS. Why not?

I have done it on a Commencal FS. Took 10 minutes for the world to stop wobbling, my mate beat me to the top and then puked down the front of his jersey

Had a blast at Gisburn today. Cracking day for biking.

Did the slab and the hope line a couple of times. Gisburn is shaping up to be a top biking destination.

Went to Antur Stiniog yesterday - didn't crash once, but I'm aching in places I didn't even know existed today!

Haha, I was fine the first time I went, but recently my university work has really picked up and I'd not been on a bike for 3 weeks, that's what I'm going to blame it on anyway.

Well, I say "ride". Tbh, it involved more pushing. Snow is still over 15ft deep in places
  • Phillips Park for the first time with my 14 yr old lad - just right for teenagers, fast fun and enough jumps to keep him entertained, but not long enough to flick the 'how far to go now dad?' switch :D

Nice!..I've had a bit of that recently but it's receding pretty quickly down here. Can't wait til the higher trails start opening up properly

  • Penmancho, must be a great trail if you're fit, skilful and confident - unfortunately I'm none of those, still had fun though :D very wet and slippery on the rocky sections!

Sessioning* sections of Lee. Now sat in Poppies waiting for my "recovery" fry up.

    * sessioning just involves a lot of pushing as far as I can tell.

Went to Afan yesterday, whites level. Very not sure about the temporary new climb (up the old descent), but other than that was well good, looks really weird with all the trees gone. Firkin windy as well, much fun coming back down to the carpark, being blown off course once you leave the ground over the jumps!
Nice shakedown of the new bike, still some setting up to do though, bloomin DRCV!

Llandegla yesterday - remembered to turn strava on for the first time, apparently I'm 866th quickest round the whole red/black, and a stunning 1,678th fastest up the first fire road slog :D

Spent the day shredding up Antur

It was f*cking windy up there all day. Tried Black Powder a few times. Good fun.

No crashing, but bent a pedal axle

    Early night for me
