Went to Lee and Cragg yesterday for a few hours and I've been out tonight in the snow up Winter hill. Had to be done, loads of people on sledges about.

Yesterday - Some moorland between Tintwistle and Copley (Swineshaw), abit snowy and bleak up there.
Today - Lee Quarry, snowy and very icy up there today, only 2nd time ive been so wasnt too confident on where I was going as I couldnt make much out, will deffo be going back when the snow has gone just to at least give it a go when theres some traction and I can blob it out of Granny gear
5 miles felt like 30 grannying no grip
  • Nice little ride in the woods at the back of my house. Wasn’t too sure whether I should attempt it as there are quite a few steep inclines and the paths are quite frosty and frozen from the cold whether but glad I did. Beautiful scenery!!!

Great fun but when the snow freezes (tonight) that'll be that for a good few days - the descent down Charity Lane will be tricky to say the least :D
  • lee quarry today and it was near unrideable thick with snow everywhere on my arse more than on my bike

    FOD for the first time

Their trail grading is a bit odd - Red is supposed to be "difficult"...

Last descent on the Blue is good fun.

Went local upto Tandle Hill yesterday with my mates 2 lads, got the youngest up without him pushing it up :D

Went over towards Crompton Moor today, bit naff really, if it wasnt a foot thick in snow it was a foot thick of mud, still a spin out and loving the new bike more and more

I did a few laps of my local routes round Tandle Hill, probably 20km in total. I've not been out for 3 or 4 weeks as I've been concentrating on my weightlifting whilst the days have been a bit shorter. Nice ride, not too sloppy and didn't feel too bad.

Went around there myself, set myself a loop so I can time trial myself.
Was that you I saw at the bend on Stakehill near the chicken farm wearing a multi coloured top.

Yes it was. You should have said hi and stopped me, I was in a world of my own.
  • Two hours at Kirkhill. Mud and more mud with the occasional patch of snow. Excellent.

I seemed like I was going the opposite way to all the other MTBers; I was on "morning" duty every couple of minutes.
  • Just started taking my 7 year old daughter out as she has expressed an interest in going MTBing with dad. Really proud of her tbh, on Saturday I took her out across a few footpaths opposite where we live and although there was up to 4 inchs of mud at times, she really did very well. Then on Monday we went in to the forest and rode one of the trails, not technical and pretty flat apart from coming off the old railway track to the carpark, which is a steep and gravel drop, which with a little help she passed with flying colours. The most important thing about all this, well a great few hours spent in a busy world with my daughter and big smiles all round :D

I know what you mean having been half a dozen times. The red (freeminer) is usually fairly decent with bits of north shore, few drop offs etc but its the lower end of red grade - it's having work done on it i think as the winter conditions trashed it so its not as good as it should be. It is short though. The Blue (verderers) is one of the best fun and flowy trails I've ever ridden. Hit it hard and fast and it's a red.

Also try some of the downhill trails next time as most of it is do-able without armour and full face. I did it in December with my brother using my old Carrera (obviously didn't hit the big stuff though).
Family, Friends, Fantastic trails - what else is there

Local upto Crompton Moor, over the top to Piethorne then over again towards Castleshaw, down to Denshaw then back over the Moor towards home.
Well miffed though, paused the runkeeper for a photo and a stretch for forgot to resume it, missing out a hefty climb, a very fast downhill, and new ground I hadnt been to before, oh and about 10 miles off the route

You are quite correct in your observations. I will come back when I grow up a bit.
